Sauvegarde, a Quebec application specializing in the fight against food waste, today announced the launch of its mobile application in the cities of Quebec, Gatineau and Sherbrooke. The app allows cafes, bakeries, restaurants and grocery stores to upload their surplus food and sell it at a reduced price.

It was launched in Montreal last September, and is now taking over other cities in the province. “After a great growth in Montreal, many requests to expand our service offer and especially the support felt as a local business, we decided to launch in the rest of the province, starting with Quebec, Gatineau and Sherbrooke. “said Johnny Saliby, founder of Safeguard.

In Canada, 1 in 3 foods is wasted while it is still perfectly edible. Food waste is the third biggest polluter globally. Safeguard reduces the carbon footprint of waste, gives consumers access to excellent food at great prices and also helps businesses reduce their losses. "It's a winning solution all along the line," says Johny Saliby. For Pilar Medina, owner of the Epi'Fanny Bakery, "participation in Safeguarding is part of an ecological and neighborhood perspective in order to provide customers with good products while reducing food waste".

The application, which has nearly 200 participating businesses in Montreal, currently has more than thirty partners in Quebec, Gatineau and Sherbrooke. Every day, new partners join the initiative. The app can be downloaded for free from Apple Store and Google Play Store.
