One Saturday night, I had a very specific craving: a good pizza cooked in a wood-fired oven! I immediately thought of my classics: Pizza No. 900, Nina Pizza… Then, suddenly, I remembered that La Maison Smith in Charlesbourg also offered wood-fired pizzas. Bingo!
The Unique Atmosphere of Cafés Smith
I love La Maison Smith. It's one of my favorite cafés, and I especially frequent the one in Limoilou, vibrant and lively. Maisons Smith have that special something, often linked to the decor. There's always a historical touch that makes the place warm and inviting.
When I learned that a branch had opened in the now-defunct Le Manoir restaurant in Charlesbourg, I was delighted. The heritage building perfectly fits the chain's aura. And the bonus? The old restaurant's wood-fired oven has been preserved so they now offer wood-fired pizzas.

No Reservations, But With a Little Luck
My boyfriend and I showed up without a reservation. The place was full, but we managed to get a table. The dining room is small, so we found ourselves seated between two other couples, quite close to our neighbors. Once the slight awkwardness dissipated, it was almost impossible not to talk to them. Fortunately, they were very friendly and even advised us on our choice of pizza: "Get the Fiore di pistacchio, it's delicious!" That was good: it was exactly the one I had in mind. Created for Pizza Week 2025, this pizza already appealed to me.

Cocktails and a Simple Menu
We started with an aperitif. I chose a spritz—as was the Italian theme—and my boyfriend a mojito. We were both pleasantly surprised by the prices, both for the cocktails and the main menu.
The menu, in fact, is simple and effective: pizzas, period. A few appetizers are also offered for happy hour or as a starter, but given the size of the portions we saw at neighboring tables, we opted for just one pizza each.

Fast Service and Generous Portions
We barely had our order placed when our pizzas were already on the table. How fast! And what a portion! We immediately wondered if we'd manage to eat it all. Artisanal pizzas sometimes give the impression of being generous, but the toppings are often light... That wasn't the case here!
The Fiore di Pistacchio is generously garnished: pistachio and basil pesto, wild mushroom duxelles, prosciutto, and in the center, a creamy burrata. It's delicious, flavorful, and decadent. I loved it!
But I still shared a slice with my boyfriend, who had chosen the Pancemiele, the grand winner of Pizza Week 2024. Topped with pancetta, mozzarella, stracciatella, basil, and rosemary-spiced honey... delicious! The hint of sweetness from the honey perfectly complemented the dish. I admit it: I preferred his.
My pizza, while excellent, got a little heavy after a while. So I brought a slice back for the next day—as did several other customers, actually.

Verdict and a little tip
If I can offer one piece of advice: for two, get just one pizza, an appetizer, and maybe a side of fries. It'll be enough... and you'll avoid leaving with a doggy bag.
The pizzeria at Café Smith in Charlesbourg is a little gem worth discovering. Beautiful decor, lively atmosphere, fast service, delicious pizzas: it's got it all!
