One of the most creepy visits that can be made in Trois-Rivières is without a doubt the one that allows us to tour the Old Prison. You will have chills and maybe a few cold sweats during this visit. It is not for nothing that you will want to quickly take your mind off things and, to do this, nothing better than a meal at the restaurant with friends right after.

So discover the names of the best restaurants located near the Old Prison of Trois-Rivières where it is possible to go and take your mind off things and have a good start to the evening.

So we were saying that the visit to the Trois-Rivières prison is pretty creepy. Here's why.

First, the building was built between 1815 and 1822. Prisoners spent time there between the walls until 1986. Due to the unsanitary conditions of the place over the years, many renovations have taken place over the years.

Second, you will be able to see the cramped cells, where prisoners had to spend entire days. Outside outings were very rare and also very short.

Finally, you will also be able to visit the inner courtyard. Once again, you will understand how these prisoners must have felt. You will be told some stories of hangings that took place in this very place.

All the same, this visit, although creepy, will be very enriching in terms of the history of Canadian prison heritage.

That’s why we’re convinced that you won’t want to go home right away. You’ll want to take your time in the area around the Old Prison and find the best open restaurant that will take your mind off things.

Here’s a list of restaurants located near the Old Prison.

Le Sacristain

Our first suggestion lies in the history and heritage of the city of Trois-Rivières. Indeed, Le Sacristain is a restaurant located in an old church.

Please note: dinner is not served here. The restaurant is open for lunch only, starting at 10 a.m. every weekday morning.

Le Sacristain’s menu features grilled sandwiches, soups, salads and, of course, stews. There are also a few homemade desserts for those with a sweet tooth.

In addition, the sandwiches are made with homemade organic bread and the rest of the ingredients are also organic, local and artisanal.

Poke et Ramen-moi

Let's continue our gourmet route to Poke et Ramen-moi, a small establishment offering exactly what you think after reading its name!

There is however a but! It is that here, Japanese ramens rub shoulders with Hawaiian pokebowls to offer a unique culinary experience to visitors, in a relaxed and comforting atmosphere.

Among the ramens available, there is the bowl of chicken, tofu, veggie dumpling, fried shiitake, beef, shrimp, pork.

As for pokes, you have to choose between the salmon and tataki, the tuna tataki with General Tao chicken nuggets or the marinated shrimp and tempura.

O’Centro Pub & Grill

Here we are directly in downtown Trois-Rivières, where the O’Centro Pub & Grill awaits us and its two terraces open in the summer, of course.

You will arrive in the dining room to discover a decor that is both rustic and industrial, but also a tasty menu as well as a good selection of beers, wines and spirits.

For starters, you could choose between the parmesan fondue, fried pickles, jalapeño shrimp or, quite simply, chicken wings.

As a main course, the options range from poutines to grilled meats, such as ribs, European sausages or sparkling flank steak, and from fish and seafood to pizzas. Burgers and meal salads are also offered.

Le Brasier 1908

Perhaps you guessed it once again by its name, but Le Brasier 1908 is a tribute to a major fire that broke out in downtown Trois-Rivières in 1908 and destroyed a significant number of buildings at the time.

So, this restaurant wants to be lit, that is to say, it wants to create the spark in the customer's eyes as soon as he arrives in the dining room. In fact, nothing has been left to chance at all levels. The experience offered here is not found anywhere else.

Wednesday through Saturday, you can try the Flaming Nachos (with corn chips, mozzarella cheese, Margherita sauce, bell peppers, black olives, jalapeños, green onions and served with salsa and sour cream), the Southwest Fried Chicken (with gravy and served with buttermilk bread, coleslaw and choice of salad or home fries), the Smoked Brisket (a smoked beef brisket with Memphis sauce and served with seasonal vegetables, gravy mashed potatoes and coleslaw) or the Boudin Blanc Sausages (with onions, apples, rosemary, gravy and served with mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables).

There are also burgers, pizzas and many other grilled dishes.

Sunday through Tuesday, the evening menu is slightly different.

A children's menu is also available.

Botan Pizza

Botan Pizza is our last suggestion of the day. It is the most popular pizzeria in Trois-Rivières, in operation since 1995. Why such a reputation? Simply because of the quality ingredients used to prepare the pizzas.

All the most common pizzas are of course an integral part of the menu. But there is also the Botan special, which contains beef, tomatoes, onions, black and green olives, all covered with melted mozzarella cheese to offer this unique creamy texture.

In addition to its famous pizzas, Botan offers pitas, skewers, poutines and burgers.

It is also possible to call in advance to have an order prepared or delivered.
