Here is a new edition of Fast Delivery, a digest of news on the world of catering. Now it's time for the results of a restaurant tip survey, an idea of ??discounts for vaccinated people and the arrival of a new chef at the Queen Elizabeth Restaurant.
So let's start with the results of a survey conducted by Dalhousie University in collaboration with Angus Reid among 990 Canadians. The partners wanted to investigate the future of the tip system. As we have seen recently, some restaurateurs have looked into this problem, at least it is a problem for them, by slightly increasing the price of invoices but by systematically refusing tips to employees, who receive a better salary anyway. .
For example, 34% of respondents believe that tipping helps motivate workers in the service sector, 30% claim to make their work more interesting, 19% say that tipping should be regulated and 17% say it should be banned. When asked about the option of including the tip in the service charge, 37% of people favored the change, compared to 32% who opposed it.
It is therefore an issue to be followed, which will be called upon to evolve over time.
Also, would it be possible for the government of Quebec, in its fight against the coronavirus and its race for vaccines, to set up a program that would pay a rebate to traders wishing to offer a discount to vaccinated people? A few traders have at least taken the lead on this point and are offering a 10% discount from the outset to people who have received at least one dose of a Covid-19 vaccine.
Remember that traders of all kinds, but in catering in particular, have had a hard time since March 2020. This is a way for restaurateurs to want to encourage the population to be vaccinated as quickly as possible to finally put an end to this pandemic. This gesture could also be imitated by several restaurateurs in Quebec.
Finally, Queen Elizabeth announces the arrival of Edgar Trudeau-Ferrin as the new chef of the Rosélys. The hotel restaurant will celebrate its four years this month and therefore welcomes those who have studied in Paris, Montpellier, Barcelona and at Pied de Cochon and at Beaver Hall, closer to us in Montreal.
The restaurant is offering a new Sunday morning formula, a la carte brunch, and has decided to keep its concept of picnic meals and meal boxes launched during the pandemic.
