This new rapid delivery will allow you to learn more about the alleged frauds of the former president of Planète Poutine, the arrival of Bidon Taverne Culinaire in Sainte-Julie and that of Grillades Pico Loco in Quebec.
First, the former president of Planète Poutine, Benoit Charron, was arrested by the Sûreté du Québec, accused of having orchestrated a fraud of more than 20 million dollars with the complicity of a corrupt notary. Lenders, including a judge of the Court of Quebec, believed they were investing in real estate projects linked to fast food chains, but their money was allegedly misappropriated.
Charron, which acquired Planète Poutine in 2015, withdrew in 2022. A notary and another collaborator were also arrested and two other suspects are being sought.
The investigation, called Project Oribus, began in 2015, revealing fraudulent transactions linked to around twenty real estate lots. Lenders were supposed to be secured by mortgages, but the land was often undeveloped. Some of the money was allegedly used for luxury cars and jewelry and a residence in Florida. The case will be presented to court on January 18.
Then, Bidon Taverne Culinaire, established in Saint-Lambert since 2010, recently opened a second branch in Sainte-Julie. Both restaurants offer a seasonal menu highlighting fresh and local products, with a new modern atmosphere in Sainte-Julie that is just as warm as the original.
Popular dishes include scallop risotto, braised beef cheek and seafood tagliatelle. Alain Ejeil, co-owner since 2018, announces changes to the menu in January, favoring comfort dishes for winter. In addition to regular dishes, each branch offers a creative dish of the moment listed on the slate each week and a varied selection of privately imported wines is available, chosen by sommelier Valérie Cadieux. All tailored precisely to customer tastes.
Eventually, Stoyan Napoleonov, former owner of Le Poulet Portugais restaurant, moved his business to 854 rue Saint-Jean with a new concept, an expanded menu and an expanded dining room. In collaboration with his new partner, Guillermo Acevedo, former owner of the Sol Latino restaurant, they created Grillades Pico Loco, offering specialties from Portugal and Mexico. The diverse menu includes dishes like chicken ranchero.
Although the restaurant only recently opened, the owners are continuing to develop the space and are still waiting for the liquor license to move to traditional bar service instead of the BYOB option. Strategically located near Old Quebec, the restaurant offers 80 seats, with lunch and dinner services, as well as a take-out option.
