The 10 strangest regional specialties

Have you ever tried to explain what a poutine to a stranger? There's a good chance he found the unappetizing dish. Besides several specialties can also seem very strange to us. Here are our top 10 strangest regional specialties.


1. Smalahove
In Norway, one of the typical dishes is the smalahove which is literally a baked sheep's head served with mashed swede and potatoes. The whole head is edible, even the eyes!

5. Haggis
In Scotland, or haggis haggis is the national dish. The recipe is a mixture of minced sheep offal with onion, oatmeal, suet and spices. It is served with mashed potatoes.


6. Buchada of carneiro
Somewhat in the same vein, the buchada of carneiro is a Brazilian dish consisting of stuffed sheep rumen tripe and offal Primed stew.


7. Green Eel
In Belgium, a Flemish regional dishes is green eel, a freshwater eel based dish served in a sauce of green herbs.


8. Andouillette Troyes
French famous culinary specialty from the Troyes region, the sausage is a charcuterie made from large intestines and stomach of pork, seasoned with onions and spices.


9. Blut-Zungenwurst
In Germany, this language-based sausage and beef blood is one of the national culinary specialties.


10. Txangurro
Basque Country, is eaten txangurro which consists of a stuffed spider crab with onions, leeks and carrots.
