Located on Wellington Street South in Sherbrooke since 1991, the Liverpool resto billard night life is generally known for its many pool tables and its covered and heated terrace. Like the majority of Sherbrooke residents, we spent many hours within its walls enjoying its warm and festive atmosphere, playing pool or lounging in its armchairs while sipping a microbrewery beer or discovering a new cocktail.
However, we had never had the chance to attend one of his musical events featuring up-and-coming artists. We therefore decided to remedy the situation by attending with a couple of friends the show of Tim Brink and Kim Greenwood on a hot Saturday evening in June, while enjoying a table for dinner on the terrace.
We specified when booking online that we wanted a table located so that we could attend the show. What was our pleasant surprise when we found that we were going to occupy the table just in front of the artists! While waiting for our friends to arrive, we each ordered a glass of water and a Sherbière, a classic beer from the Sherbrooke microbrewery Le Siboire, pleasant to all and perfect to start an evening.
The start of the show marked the arrival of our friends, who each ordered a Normanville beer brewed in Montreal. While sipping our drinks and talking quietly, we listened to the melodious voice of Tim accompanied by the talented guitarist Kim. It was impossible not to notice their extensive stage experience, their exceptional talent and the great diversity of their repertoire.
Greeting and chatting with those present, Tim showed his generosity, his great kindness and his affability.
We had no expectations of the Liverpool menu, having known the place more as a bar and less as a restaurant. We were therefore surprised to see the variety of their dishes, which can charm all palates, and the extent of their menu.
As time passed and our stomachs were crying out for food, we hailed the waitress to order an appetizer to share as a couple, four cheese sticks with salsa for us and potato skins for our friends. Small downside: we received our starter so quickly after ordering it that we had time to finish it before our friends received theirs. We would have preferred to all receive it at the same time and avoid stuffing ourselves in front of them.
The service also left something to be desired on this evening. Our waitress, although polite, friendly and smiling, lacked presence. We had to call him every time we wanted to order, whether it was to eat, order drinks or even water. Most of the time she didn't notice our signs and we had to approach her colleague so they could get our requests.
After several attempts to get her attention, our waitress finally took our main course order. Nicolas ordered the Vicking, a delicious burger made with bacon, cheese curds, onion rings and vegetables, served with fries. Julie instead opted for the Relevé grilled cheese, made with chicken, honey, guacamole, cheddar and habanero, also combined with fries. It should be noted that we had the choice of accompaniment, either fries or a green salad. We greatly appreciated the variety of homemade mayo that could complement the fries, Nicolas choosing the mayo with chives and Julie, the pesto mayo. Our friends preferred to share a dish of nachos between them, accompanied by guacamole and salsa. Already having the attention of our waitress, we took the opportunity to ask for water and order a drink, another Sherbière for Nicolas and a raspberry daiquiri for Julie, sweet and refreshing.
After a final encore, the music died down, the performers packed up their gear, and people began to slowly leave the terrace. We soon followed them, charmed by our dinner-show at the Liverpool and promising to attend other musical events in this legendary Sherbrooke institution.
