I was initially surprised when I learned of this new restaurant in Quebec City. Giovanni Apollo opening a restaurant on Boulevard Henri-Bourassa in Charlesbourg? I found it all a little unusual. I would have thought that Mr. Apollo would have chosen a slightly more dynamic neighborhood of the city. On the other hand, downtown brings its share of competitors.

Neither too calm nor too crowded, the restaurant had a respectable traffic. Perfect for enjoying a meal calmly without feeling choked.

Sharing the premises with Thaïzone, the restaurant offers both an express counter and a table service. In short, the best of both worlds for people in a hurry as for those who want to stop to enjoy a meal without feeling the rush.

Although there is an opening between the two restaurants, you can feel like a little cocoon. I was impressed by the decor with the vintage sauce. On the wall are black and white images of a bygone era. We play in nostalgia. The accents of red, black, white and comfortable banquettes make it all warm. I liked the little nod to the ceiling where the hanging fixtures are shaped colanders.

The menu offers the greatest classics of Italian cuisine: pizzas, lasagna, spaghetti bolognese, veal cannelloni, etc. We go with sure values, comforting dishes and we leave aside the excessive creativity. We come here to eat comfort. Point. I like classics, especially when they are well prepared, but I admit to always being eager for novelties. My curious side could not be totally satisfied. However, I understood that this was the essence of the restaurant: traditional Italian cuisine.

To taste a bit of everything, I ordered the meatballs as input. Generous, mellow and tasty, they respond exactly to what can be imagined dumplings prepared by an Italian mama. On the main course, I set my sights on the pappardelles carbonara. Well done, the dish was once again quite the expectations that can be made. Creamy and rich, the sauce was delectable and pasta cooked al dente as desired. We can hardly be disappointed.

Unfortunately, you can not taste the desserts, since both services have quickly filled my appetite. It goes without saying that the portions are very generous!

Apollo accessible to all, that's interesting!
