Despite the holiday season, things are happening behind the scenes in the restaurant world! Let us give you a few examples, like these two bizarre tipping stories and also two changes of owners.
Let's start with the first story about tipping. This takes place in the state of Wisconsin where Callie Blue started her regular shift at Gus's Dinner lunch restaurant on December 25th. Everything was going normally until the president of a major American company came to eat. Our waitress, since it was quiet, welcomed the new customer and talked to him for at least 45 minutes.
When he left, he left her a large tip of $1000!
Found by CNN media, client Michael Johnson, CEO of the "Boys and Girls Club" company, said he does this kind of surprise every year. For Callie, it was quite a surprise and quite a Christmas present!
Let's continue with the second tip story, which is less magical. This is the story of a delivery girl from a popular pizza chain in the United States who went to a customer and asked her to tip her BEFORE she gave her her order. According to a video of the exchange, which has gone around the web, the client would not have appreciated this request.
Has a delivery person ever made such a request to you?
Finally, let's end this Quick Delivery on two good notes.
Indeed, we have learned that two transactions have taken place in recent weeks and that it concerns two companies that are well established in Quebec.
First, after a process of takeover started two years ago at Jucep, a famous restaurant in Drummondville, Laurent Proulx has now become its sole and exclusive owner. Proulx is the manager of Groupe Le Canadien, which also owns Le Canadien and Vieux St-Charles restaurants as well as two canteens (Le Pignon and Bar le Vieux) and two food trucks.
Finally, Foodtastic made two acquisitions before ending 2022, namely Quesada Burritos & Tacos and Freshii.
"Quesada is one of the nation's leading quick-service restaurant brands, and we are pleased to welcome this fast-growing brand to the Foodtastic family," said Peter Mammas, President and CEO of Foodtastic, in a statement. We look forward to working with all of our new franchisees and growing the brand in Canada."
"For nearly 20 years, our incredible franchisees, business partners and head office team have been on a mission to make healthy food accessible and build a leading Canadian healthy fast food restaurant brand," says Daniel Haroun, CEO of Freshii, in a statement. The brand, franchise network and employees will benefit from the scale of Foodtastic. Specifically, we expect this transaction to enhance Freshii's growth, franchisee profitability as well as retail growth."
The two new brands join, among others, the Second Cup, Pita Pit and Milestones chains within Foodtastic.
