Death of Rolande Leclerc: tribute to a great lady of the Quebec restaurant industry

Death of Rolande Leclerc: tribute to a great lady of the Quebec restaurant industry

It is with great emotion and deep sadness that Chef Yvan Lebrun, spouse and partner of Mrs. Rolande Leclerc of the prestigious restaurant Initiale in Quebec City, wishes to acknowledge the death of Mrs. Leclerc on July 2, 2022 at the age of 63.

Rolande Leclerc, along with Chef Lebrun, created the fine cuisine restaurant Initiale in Quebec City in 1990. The establishment quickly gained a reputation as a culinary destination in Quebec, across Canada and beyond. The success of Initiale was no stranger to Ms. Leclerc's passion and desire to always offer a memorable experience to each and every one of her guests, and there are still many who can attest to this. Awards such as the membership to the very prestigious Relais & Châteaux banner in 2006 or the CAA-AAA Five Diamond rating in 2011 are just a few of the exceptional recognitions of the work accomplished by Mrs. Leclerc, Chef Lebrun and their brigade.

The call for a well-deserved rest and a long vacation after more than 30 years of heart and soul dedication had prompted Ms. Leclerc and Mr. Lebrun to turn off the stove in October 2019. Rolande Leclerc will have left her mark in the world of the restoration as a professional and a discreet passionate but how much appreciated, respected and loved by her customers whose happiness was her reward.

The restaurant Initiale opened its doors on Maguire Street in Sillery in 1990 before moving its stoves to the Old Port of Quebec at 54 Saint-Pierre Street where it continued to enjoy great success.

Rolande Leclerc, besides her spouse, leaves behind many brothers and sisters, cousins, nephews and nieces as well as many dear friends. Expressions of sympathy may be made by making a donation to the Cancer Research Society, 625 President Kennedy Avenue, Montreal, QC, H3A 3S5. The family will welcome relatives and friends on Sunday, July 24, 2022 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Monday, July 25, 2022 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at 2026 René-Lévesque Blvd. West at the Maison Gomin / Athos Funeral Complex.
