After a few weeks of vacation during the summer and after finishing the back-to-school sprint for the little ones, we can now enjoy a three-day weekend thanks to Labor Day. This year, this holiday is Monday, September 2, 2024. To take full advantage of this extra day off, we invite you to plan a restaurant outing.

To do this, we offer our help with our list of restaurants that are open on Labor Day, which you will find below.

You can also consult the list of best restaurants in Quebec where you can bring your own wine, or the list of best restaurants with delivery.

The 2024 summer season that is coming to an end has allowed us to spend a lot of quality time with family, whether in the pool, at the beach, on bikes or at the movies. Like us, you probably have your head full of memories.

But once the return to school is over, the morning and evening routine already in place, we can enjoy a little break with this Labor Day holiday. Some will take advantage of it to put their yard in order and others to put the finishing touches on the purchase of school supplies.

What is certain is that everyone will also want to take a good extra time with family and take a break from cooking. It is indeed the ideal time to spend an evening at a restaurant.

Here is our list of places to eat during the Labor Day weekend, because despite its name, restaurant workers are faithful to their post and ready to serve you.

Les Trois Garçons

For people in the Quebec City area, we invite you to visit the restaurant Les Trois Garçons, in the heart of the “Vieux”, a bistro with a style between New York and Paris that welcomes you with gourmet meals in a warm atmosphere.

For example, you can enjoy one of their delicious burgers or meal salads.

You can also plan your visit early in the morning, because the restaurant offers breakfast every day of the week.

Here, the burgers are real must-haves. They are prepared with a 5-ounce patty of meat directly from a local butcher. They are served in an artisanal brioche bun from the bakery La Fabrique, located nearby. As for the potatoes, they are of course from Île d’Orléans and, to accompany them, you have the choice between four homemade mayos: traditional, curry, maple and rosemary or chipotle.

You can accompany it all with a glass of wine (red, white, rosé, bubbles), a beer, a shooter, a regular or dessert cocktail, an alcoholic coffee, a sangria or a non-alcoholic cocktail.

Resto La Muse

In Drummondville, a great way to spend the long Labor Day weekend is to take a seat in the most beautiful restaurant in town, located in the heart of downtown, at the La Muse restaurant.

After taking a seat and ordering a drink, such as one of the eight beers on tap, a cocktail or a glass of wine, you can watch the cooks at work in an open-air space.

Whether you are there for the weekend lunch, available until 3 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays, or to discover their à la carte menu in the evening or the table d'hôte options, you will always be warmly received and served.

In the evening, you could start the meal with a dish to share, including the maple and pecan brie, the grand nachos La Muse or the crab and cheese dip.

For the main course, La Muse boasts the best tartares in town: salmon (maple, bacon and pecans or cheddard, lime and pepper or Matane shrimp, strawberries and spicy mayo) or beef (prosciutto, cheddar and candied onions or candy bacon, portobello mushrooms and truffles or old-fashioned or Texan with spicy mayo, pickles, cheese curds and bacon).

With the table d'hôte formula, you get a starter, main course and dessert (Baileys coffee crème brûlée).

Café du Clocher

In Alma, the best combination of restaurant, bar and shows is at Café du Clocher.

The restaurant is open for lunch from Tuesday to Friday and also welcomes you in the evening from Tuesday to Saturday evening. The kitchen is then open until 9 p.m.

On the evening menu, discover oysters, calamari, wonton shrimp, edamame, fig raclette or the tartare of the week as a starter.

The main course options include a grilled flank steak to your taste, tuna tartare, taco poutine and a few original burgers.

Before leaving, you can also get some pasta to cook at home. Indeed, La Pâterie is located right next door and offers fresh pasta as well as homemade sauce dishes to take away.

In fact, the shows presented at Café du Clocher can suit all tastes. Just check the up-to-date schedule on their website.

Dinty’s

The Dinty’s restaurant in Gatineau is very popular with families and has been a local tradition for over 50 years. It is possible to stop there for lunch, dinner and supper.

Here, lovers of Greek cuisine will be spoiled. Just as a starter, we find their Greek plate composed of a Loukaniko sausage, feta cheese, olives, tomatoes, cucumbers, pita bread and tzatziki sauce.

As a main course, among others, try the Moussaka, a dish made of tender eggplant, seasoned ground beef and a creamy béchamel sauce, all cooked to perfection.

The more traditional ones can instead choose between nachos, chicken wings, snails, fried zucchini, Caesar salad, pasta, burgers or grills.

Ranch Spaghetti Sherbrooke

Le Ranch du Spaghetti is a true tradition in Sherbrooke and it is interesting to see that this restaurant has maintained its reputation since 1981!

Well known for its toaster and its homemade pasta and sauce recipes, you can also sit on the terrace located on the corner of one of the busiest intersections in Sherbrooke, if the weather permits.

You can choose between Italian specialties such as Italian salad, Italian sausages, veal escalope au gratin, special ranch spaghetti (bolognese sauce, pepperoni, mushrooms, peppers, onions and bacon) or even tortellini à la Gigi (tortellini with cheese, prosciutto, mushrooms, white wine and rosé sauce).

Or the Caesar salad, the Parmesan fondue, the garlic snails (gratinated or not), shrimp and pizzas.

Everything is always offered with the all-you-can-eat bread bar.

Chaumière

For the people of Joliette and its region, here is another restaurant that no longer needs an introduction: La Chaumière. For over 50 years, this steakhouse has defined itself as the ideal place for business dinners or intimate evenings.

On the menu, you will find a mix of dishes established since the restaurant opened in 1972, as well as new dishes prepared by the young chef Charly Durand.

Meat lovers love to meet there to rediscover the unique taste of meat cooked on charcoal.

All grills are served with vegetables and a choice of potatoes or rice or chef's salad. You must also choose a sauce from a list of five options.

Tartares are also available, as are burgers.
