More and more green restaurants

More and more green restaurants

The facts are there, the planet is sick. Everyone must do their part to help them a little bit. Now more and more restaurants understand the message and show the way. For several months, the good news in this sense is increasing.

First, we heard about Louis de Sherbrooke restaurants and their survey. They wanted to know if customers were willing to pay a little more for their meal to support the environment. The answer surprised the owners, who have now decided to go ahead with their green turn.

Thus, within a year, once the large inventory has expired, Louis restaurants will offer containers and utensils compostable or biodegradable. Already, packs and containers for take-out meals are "green" and it is expected that straws and containers for poutine will also be soon in the three establishments in Sherbrooke.

Of course, all of this comes at a price, an additional annual expense of about $ 100,000, and it will be passed on to consumers. The price of meals could rise from three to five percent.

Also, the McDonald's chain announced to enter the dance of the green turn. In recent weeks, two green concept restaurants have opened, the first in Ontario and the second in British Columbia. Both institutions will be used as laboratories to test new packaging solutions and new recycling programs.

McDonald's ultimate goal is to divert a grand total of 1,500 tonnes of packaging material produced by the chain to Canada, reduce its environmental footprint and offer its customers only packaging made of renewable or recycled materials.
