With its purple and yellow facade, the Colocs hardly go unnoticed on 3rd Avenue. A true pillar of the Limoilou district, the little café-restaurant has been well established there for twenty years.

Having lived in this area of ??Quebec City for three years, I had not yet set foot in the establishment. It must be said that with the wide choice in restoration that there is on this artery, I have not yet had the chance to try everything. And I admit, from the outside, this is usually not the kind of restaurant that appeals to me.

One midday, as I was strolling down the popular avenue after a few errands, I wanted to change my favorite little bakery where I usually go pick up a sandwich to go. So I entered the Colocs.

Inside, you can immediately see that the restaurant has many years in its body. The room is not particularly tidy, but the atmosphere is calm and filled with what seems to me, the regulars. In front of me, I am a little stunned by the menu displayed on the wall. The choice is vast, I need a few minutes to shell it all: breakfasts, subs, pizzas, sandwiches, shish & paninis, salads. So I let a few clients pass in front of me, time to review it all.

As I was about to eat a sandwich anyway, I took the plunge for the marinated chicken on baguette sub. The service is very warm, you immediately feel the friendliness. No doubt discovering that I am "a little new", the cook suggests that I garnish my sub with BBQ sauce and mayo, advice that I gladly accept. He then asks me to select my toppings, like a well-known large chain, but the choice of vegetables is different and I appreciate it. I go for the classic lettuce-tomato followed by grated carrots and red cabbage. Behind the window, the counter could use a little more classification, but I have no doubts about the freshness of the food displayed there. We finish by sprinkling my sandwich with vinaigrette, the touch that changes everything! As a side, I'd fancy a pasta salad, but since lunchtime is well advanced, all that's left is the green salad, which is what I opt for.

When I get home, I enjoy my sandwich that I had taken to take out. My plate is colorful, just like the restaurant. I enjoy it, but was very happy not to have an audience to watch the ingredients fall on the plate with every bite of this generously topped sandwich. I am pleasantly surprised by the flavors, an exquisite blend and assured freshness. The vinaigrette enhances the sandwich and makes all the difference!

Now that we have met, I will come back to the neighbor!
