Fast delivery: Opening a restaurant in 2022, succession and instructions

Supply chain

First, as we saw in a previous article, despite all the obstacles that entrepreneurs can face, many people still try their luck and open a restaurant. These obstacles could just as well be the sanitary standards imposed by Public Health due to COVID, the prices of materials which are constantly increasing or the supply chain which is slowing down.

It is on this last point that the MTY channel blamed it when it recently published its financial statements. The growth of the Montreal company has indeed been hampered by supply chain disruptions. Some equipment is not available for several months, for example heating and ventilation systems, which delays openings. With all the uncertainty surrounding the Russian invasion of Ukraine, will this phenomenon increase?

Future employees

Also, a decline in registrations in the HRI sector (hotels, restaurants and institutions) raises fears of the worst. For example, there are fewer and fewer students in classes at the Center de formation professionnelle 24-Juin de Sherbrooke dedicated to catering. The institution is therefore forced to close programs such as its DEP Restaurant Service and Hospitality Reception. In the Kitchen group, only 16 students out of a possible 22 are in class.

In fact, this decline has been present for nearly six years. But the effects of the pandemic could make the situation worse. Let's not forget that the dining rooms were closed for a long time and that the employees were left to their own devices. Let's say that the image of the profession has taken a hit.

La Tasse and La Boîte

Finally, the project of the non-profit organization La Tasse continues even more despite the pandemic. Several cafes and restaurants in the province are offering a reusable mug on deposit for $5. So far, 400 members are part of the project and nearly 350 distribution points are in operation in Quebec.

Then, in recent months, the organization also set up the new La Boîte project, which is a logical follow-up to La Tasse.

This time, takeout food containers are in the spotlight. All this means less waste for the consumer and, for merchants, no need to stock up on single-use containers whose prices fluctuate a lot.
