If you are planning to go to Quebec City or Lévis during your summer vacation, we invite you to continue your journey a little further east, on the South Shore, to the magnificent city of Montmagny. What awaits you are many musical shows and various events during the Summer Show festival at Place Montel. At the same time, why not visit one of their restaurants?

Of course, the local restaurateurs put on their best to make you discover their creativity and local products. Below, we have compiled our list of where you can go to eat before settling in comfortably at Place Montel and attending the show!

So, from the end of June to mid-August, free outdoor shows are organized to satisfy all tastes: Quebec music, country, songs from musicals, rock from all eras and other rhythms from around the world.

To please the little ones, the organizers are also planning an outdoor movie night and other shows adapted for them.

There are as many shows in the evening as in the morning, at lunchtime for picnics with music.

It is therefore an event not to be missed in this city in the Chaudière-Appalaches region.

And don't forget to choose a restaurant to start off, or complete, your day at the Été Show!

Café Bistro au Coin du monde

We suggest you first go to Café Bistro au Coin du monde, located in the heart of Old Montmagny since 2007 in a building that is over a century old.

The restaurant has three distinct sections so that everyone feels welcome. For example, there is the glass roof, the bar section and the private room. In the summer, a large and inviting terrace is available and can seat nearly 100 additional people.

Start by choosing from one of the many draft beers available and take your time to consult the menu.

In this one, you will find a shell of the sea (i.e. a creamy white wine sauce, shrimp, scallops, pollock, crab, clam, mashed potatoes and all au gratin), a pan of mushrooms (button mushrooms, portobello and crimini, butter, garlic and thyme) and a small salmon or beef tartare as a starter.

As a main course, there is pasta (classic spaghetti, linguine carbonara or penne mushrooms and bacon), Thai dishes (like shrimp soup or shrimp pad thai), poutines, salads, tartars, grills, burgers, fish and more.

It is also possible to have lunch and dinner on site, every day of the week.

Colosse smokehouse

Here is the place for smoked meats and homemade sausages, that is to say the Colosse smokehouse. In addition, there is a generous selection of microbrewery beers and privately imported wines.

If you are undecided about choosing between one piece of smoked meat or another, do not hesitate to ask the members of the service team for help. They could suggest the meat platter, which will allow you to taste a little bit of everything.

With each choice, you can taste the Colosse sauce, a secret homemade recipe that gives an extra smoky touch to your meal.

In the summer, a terrace allows customers to enjoy the beautiful weather a little longer.

La Maison Rousseau Inn and Restaurant

If you are coming from outside Montmagny or the Chaudière-Appalaches region, you may be looking for a place to spend the night. You can do so at Maison Rousseau, which is both an inn and a restaurant.

It is located in the heart of Old Montmagny and the architecture of the building will not leave you indifferent. Moreover, the terrace is magnificent.

The table d'hôte menu includes a starter, main course and dessert, but it is also possible to add soup for a small supplement.

Among the starters, we suggest the pulled pork wonton tacos with sautéed corn with Cajun spices and lettuce while a Provençal trout papillote, accompanied by jasmine rice and pan-fried vegetables will make an excellent main course.

On Thursdays, tartares are on sale. There are about ten possibilities.

The Auberge restaurant is open from Wednesday to Sunday for lunch and dinner. On Sunday morning, you can also go there for breakfast.

Restaurant La Couvée

If you do not choose Maison Rousseau to spend the night, perhaps you will prefer the Oiselière hotel. If so, you can easily make a short stop at the Couvée restaurant. With its gourmet menu and its options for children, you will fall under its spell.

The à la carte menu gives pride of place to game meats, fish and seafood. For example, opt for a fresh salmon tartare, duck leg confit, chicken supreme, pork medallion, 8-ounce entrecôte, 6-ounce filet mignon or burgers.

There is also a variety of pastas and even Asian stir-fries.

It is possible to have breakfast, lunch and dinner at La Couvée, under the direction of chef Donald Labillois.

Restaurant à la rive

As a final suggestion, we suggest a quick detour to the restaurant À la rive, which has been in operation for over 45 years.

You will discover a menu that emphasizes pizza, homemade fries and all sorts of family options.

In addition to traditional pizzas, À la rive offers variations such as calzone, pizzaroti and thin pizza.

It is also possible to have lunch (yes, there are breakfast pizzas) and dinner.

On the à la carte menu, you will also find burgers and other sandwiches, poutines, roast chicken, ribs, grills and skewers.
