Like a fairy tale?

The Cendrillon has been rolling around for a few years now and has kept its place among the top trendy tables in Quebec. Dishes to share: a tried-and-tested concept that has gained many followers. Me included! So I wanted to take a closer look at what it's all about.

On this spring Saturday evening, I got a reservation for the first service. At the bar please! When we arrived, although early, the restaurant was full. Groups are immersed in a festive atmosphere, at the bar, we are already enjoying dishes and small tables here and there are filled with lovers.

We are seated at the counter, leaving us with the menus. Thus sitting at the bar, I have the advantage of having an eye on all the cocktails during their preparation. So I quickly ordered myself an aperitif spritz, largely inspired by my stool neighbors. We wait several minutes, but no one comes to explain the menu to us. Maybe it's reserved for table service?

Dishes to share
We therefore inquire about the operation with our bartender and we learn that it is recommended to choose 2 to 4 dishes per person, according to our appetite. We get the ball rolling with oysters, the house specialty. Rather than choosing them raw, we dare the worked oysters, garnished with garlic butter and parmesan, then served hot. We both enjoy the appetizer, but note that the sizes differ a lot from shellfish to shellfish. As a gentleman, my prince leaves me the plumpest. I also wonder about the intruder: what is the soda cookie doing in the center of the plate?

Squid and gravlax
For the second course, we go for two dishes: grilled squid and striped bass gravlax. Having only read the title and neglected to dwell on the description, we are surprised by the look of our calamari, which is served in a salad format. However, the dish is very elegant and the flavors are just as sublime. Everything is fresh! Special mention for the delicious pesto! We then embark on the delicate plate of gravlax. Very refined, the dish is fantastic! A gravlax that makes a change from those we usually see, generally oscillating between salmon or trout. Slight downside, the small quantity. Our bellies are still rumbling.

Soup or risotto?
So we order a last dish before the end of the first service sounds! We choose the risotto in the hope that it will be beefier. Little disappointment in this final. The flavors are there, but the dish is a little too liquid for our taste. It tends more towards soup than the usual creamy consistency of risotto.

All in all a beautiful evening, well accompanied. Maybe the staff was overwhelmed? We leave, satisfied, with our two shoes on our feet.
