Overall I found this quite disappointing. The food was okay but no better and very expensive for what it was. I won't be hurrying back.
What guests say about Le Lapin Sauté
Le Lapin Sauté is a small, warm, and intimate restaurant that often comes up as a favorite for trying Quebec cuisine, especially the rabbit, duck, onion soup, and salted honey tart. Most reviews mention very flavorful food, generous portions, and attentive, welcoming service. Since the dining room is small and popular, several recommend booking ahead. A few customers did note occasional service issues, inconsistent dishes, or portions that were a bit disappointing at times.
Reviews / Ratings for Le Lapin Sauté
We ordered the “table d'hôte menu,” which was described as: “Select a main course, add $25, and choose an appetizer, a dessert, and tea or coffee.” However, dessert and coffee never arrived. When we asked the server about it, we were first told that they were not included. After we questioned it again, we were then told they would remove the dessert and coffee charges from the bill. When we checked the receipt, we saw that the appetizer and main course had instead been charged separately. That alone would have been disappointing, but on top of that, the Smoked Duck Magret appetizer — which was listed as $18 — was charged as $26. The menu clearly stated that adding $25 to the main course would include an appetizer, dessert, and coffee, yet somehow the $18 appetizer was increased to $26 and added separately. It felt completely misleading and overcharged. If we misunderstood how this menu was supposed to work, we would genuinely appreciate some clarification.
A different and local restaurant specializes in rabbit and duck dishes. I ordered a platter for sharing and few other appetizers. All very tasty. The staffs are very friendly.
Charming place, delicious food, beautiful presentation.
Excellent service. Food is great 👍
We loved our lunch here. The staff was kind, welcoming, and friendly and spoke very good English which really made up for my poor, broken French. Our server did an excellent job of ensuring we had all we needed during a busy lunch hour and kept my water glass topped up. The food and drinks were outstanding. Highly recommend the L'argousier mocktail as it was very refreshing and hit the spot on a warm, humid day. It was lovely to sit on the patio and relax. It's a long time since I had rabbit but I smelled it as I was walking down the street and I knew that's where I would be eating. I had the rabbit leg with two-mustard sauce which was soooo tasty. It came with a variety of roasted veg including some tasty grape tomatoes and really flavorful mushrooms. My dad had the pulled rabbit poutine which he loved.
My partner and I stopped here for a light lunch. I had the appetizer size pulled rabbit routine and it was wonderful. My partner had the soup of the day, which was very tasty. The service was warm and very interactive. A very memorable stop in QC.
Not worthed the hype. First of all, the service was so slow - took 15 minutes to order, 45 minutes to be served and about 2 hours to leave since they wouldn't bring the check. Waiters are nice but service is poor. Second, the food was so bland and lightly uncooked - they insisted the food should be like that but have tried more cooked in other spots. We all had stomach issues after eating it. The only good thing was the dessert. Finally, the food was pricey but lacking good service and quality. Looked promising but bad experience overall.
This place was highly recommended. It was our first time in Quebec city and we wanted a memorable experience. My husband ordered a beer and we ordered wine to share with his meal. I ordered the rabbit saddle and he the rabbit pie. We were shocked when halfway through his beer, the meal arrived not even 10 minutes later. There were 3 medallions of rabbit. The smallest piece was tough. The others tender. It looked hastily arranged on the plate and the meal was Luke warm. The crust on my husband's pie was chewy and the side salad was nothing special. We were so disappointed. Will never go back. Not my idea of a dining experience in Quebec.
So glad I went! The poutine with the pulled rabbit and mustard sauce was amazing.
The Quebec discoveries was a great tasting sampler of things!
We had to make a reservation before arriving at dinner time. I absolutely loved the atmosphere; it was both cozy and vibrant. For starters, we had the French onion soup, followed by the Mushroom Ravioli and the Game Burger for our mains. The onion soup and ravioli were quite good. However, the burger had a very strong, gamey aroma; it honestly felt a bit like live stock with every bite. While the quality of the meat was clearly good, I’ve definitely had better burgers. If you prefer your meat to taste more neutral and dislike the strong smell of lamb fat or heavy beef, this might not be the burger for you. Service was also a bit on the slower side, with a pretty long wait between our starter and the main courses.
Wonderful experience of local food!
Yummy 🤤 highly recommend their onion soup & Quebec Discoveries 👍🏻
I am Celiac and had a safe and delicious gluten free meal. I LOVED my experience at this restaurant.
Food was good. Rabbit meat was worth a try. However, the service is comparent poor to the food. We waited at least 20mins for just a cup of water.
Staff was superb: friendly, witty, and warm.
La tarte au miel salé is a must try but the rest is ordinary !
A charming restaurant and our favourite dining experience on our visit to Quebec City. A wonderful menu that showcases the region’s culinary specialties - très délicieux!
Really cute spot. Unique menu with a focus on rabbit. Excellent server. Delicious food. The terrace is a nice spot for watching the world go by.
Very cute restaurant and such friendly staff. If you want amazing rabbit, this is the place for you! And their french onion soup was one of the best I've ever had!
Food poisoning. The carrot soon the day was very good. Then came the problem with the main dishes. My cassoulet was lukewarm and the other diner’s pork dish had cold vegetables and lukewarm meat. No one came to ask how everything was so it was not possible to get the issue addressed. Spent the night either in the bathroom, or in bed wrapped in an extra blanket trying to fight off the nausea. A friend had raved about this place and had a good track record. Obviously, something was off last night.
Charming, helpful waiters. Nice food though I can always use more beans in my cassoulet!
I would normally rate this restaurant three stars, because the food is fine but nothing special. However, my experience with the service brought the rating down. At the beginning I was served by a waiter who was friendly, attentive, and genuinely professional — he definitely deserved a tip. Unfortunately, the service changed completely when a waitress took over. She brought me a bill that was $20 higher than it should have been, even though the menu clearly states at the top that you can combine items into a special set menu at a fixed price. When I pointed this out, she gave me an unconvincing explanation about taking over the table from her colleague. What made the situation worse was her reaction when I chose not to leave a tip after this mistake. She started lecturing me about how “this isn’t Europe” and that service isn’t included here. For the record: servers in Canada earn twice as much as in my part of Europe (not counting tips), and yet I’ve never seen a European server demand a tip after overcharging a customer. Overall, decent food, but the inconsistency in service and the attitude I encountered were disappointing.
Outstanding food!! The pork roast was incredible and my husband had the salmon..excellent service as well!
