What guests say about Le Lapin Sauté
Le Lapin Sauté seems like a safe choice if you’re looking for an intimate, cozy atmosphere in Old Québec, with service often described as attentive and welcoming. The cuisine is generally highly praised, especially the rabbit and duck dishes, as well as specialties like onion soup, fondue, and salted honey pie. Since the restaurant is small and often busy, it is strongly recommended to book in advance. A few reviews do mention inconsistencies in service, portions that are considered small, or uneven dishes, so the experience can vary.

I am Celiac and had a safe and delicious gluten free meal. I LOVED my experience at this restaurant.
Food was good. Rabbit meat was worth a try. However, the service is comparent poor to the food. We waited at least 20mins for just a cup of water.
Staff was superb: friendly, witty, and warm.
La tarte au miel salé is a must try but the rest is ordinary !
A charming restaurant and our favourite dining experience on our visit to Quebec City. A wonderful menu that showcases the region’s culinary specialties - très délicieux!
Really cute spot. Unique menu with a focus on rabbit. Excellent server. Delicious food. The terrace is a nice spot for watching the world go by.
Very cute restaurant and such friendly staff. If you want amazing rabbit, this is the place for you! And their french onion soup was one of the best I've ever had!
Food poisoning. The carrot soon the day was very good. Then came the problem with the main dishes. My cassoulet was lukewarm and the other diner’s pork dish had cold vegetables and lukewarm meat. No one came to ask how everything was so it was not possible to get the issue addressed. Spent the night either in the bathroom, or in bed wrapped in an extra blanket trying to fight off the nausea. A friend had raved about this place and had a good track record. Obviously, something was off last night.
Charming, helpful waiters. Nice food though I can always use more beans in my cassoulet!
I would normally rate this restaurant three stars, because the food is fine but nothing special. However, my experience with the service brought the rating down. At the beginning I was served by a waiter who was friendly, attentive, and genuinely professional — he definitely deserved a tip. Unfortunately, the service changed completely when a waitress took over. She brought me a bill that was $20 higher than it should have been, even though the menu clearly states at the top that you can combine items into a special set menu at a fixed price. When I pointed this out, she gave me an unconvincing explanation about taking over the table from her colleague. What made the situation worse was her reaction when I chose not to leave a tip after this mistake. She started lecturing me about how “this isn’t Europe” and that service isn’t included here. For the record: servers in Canada earn twice as much as in my part of Europe (not counting tips), and yet I’ve never seen a European server demand a tip after overcharging a customer. Overall, decent food, but the inconsistency in service and the attitude I encountered were disappointing.
Outstanding food!! The pork roast was incredible and my husband had the salmon..excellent service as well!
The star of the show was the waiter! He was delightful and made all the right suggestions! And he was right - the French Onion 🧅 Soup was ridiculously delicious!
My Mom and I were visiting Quebec City for her 80th birthday and we had been eating at a number of fine restaurants, but Lapin Saute was a stand out for us! Inside the restaurant is cozy and relaxing and the servers were so friendly and provided excellent menu recommendations. We ate the pork shoulder which was so tender you did not even need a knife to cut it. We also had the stuffed rabbit saddle which was so flavourful and tender as well. Great place, definitely make reservations in advance.
We had the carrot soup to start which tasted great. The rabbit dishes were fabulous, and we enjoyed them very much. The staff were very friendly and ambience was very charming.
Quaint, low-key, intimate setting for some wonderful Québécois cuisine. We had a great time here. Reservations highly recommended.
One of the best recommendations I received in Quebec City! We didn’t have reservation, got on the waiting list, went for a short walk in the area, for less than 30min and got seated in the terrace. Beautiful decor, excellent service and tasty dishes! Had to try their Rabbit Poutine and the small fondue that did not disappoint! Highly recommended!
An absolutely outstanding dining experience at Le Lupin Sauté. From the warm atmosphere to the impeccable service, everything was top-notch. The rabbit leg was cooked to perfection, incredibly tender, flavourful, and easily one of the best dishes I’ve had in a long time. The crème brûlée was equally impressive: perfectly balanced, rich, creamy, and absolutely delicious with that satisfying caramelized top. Every detail of the meal reflected genuine passion and craftsmanship from the kitchen. Highly recommend this place to anyone looking for an unforgettable dining experience in Quebec City. Looking forward to coming back again soon!
The food was wonderful. We ordered the duck and rabbit platter which has cold and hot duck and rabbit dishes
Spent ample time digging into all of the websites looking for the best French Onion Soup in Quebec City and ... I think I found it. This place est exceptionnel! Overall cool dinner atmosphere nooked away on Rue du Petit Champlain. Bonus if you try their maple dessert wine - something I didn't even know I needed! Nothing but good things to say and would highly recommend.
Decent food. A little expensive.
We loved everything- food was amazing, service was perfect, and we loved the cozy atmosphere!
A delightful delicious experience. We will return
Make reservations. It's quite intimate inside and fills up quick. Absolutely adorable. You feel like you're in a rabbit burrow. The decor is so cute. The pulled rabbit poutine was great. The small appetizer poutine was already the perfect size to share along with our smoked duck winter salad and onion soup. The only thing was that I wished the soup had more broth than cheese. All in all, a great meal everytime.
If you like rabbit this is the place to go.
