Because the best tennis players in the world are meeting in Montreal from August 3 to 12, because you are big fans and you will attend the matches, you also want to find one of the best restaurants near the National Bank Tennis Open to start your evening off right.
We of course have suggestions for you for a few restaurants located a few minutes from the IGA stadium in Jarry Park, the place where professional tennis fans meet.
Even if, this year, the tournament will take place just a few weeks after the tennis events of the Paris Olympic Games, the competition is likely to be tough with the presence of the biggest headliners in men's tennis.
Every summer, this event attracts its share of visitors and all Montrealers love to welcome them. And restaurants located all over the city are making every effort to feed these visitors, including you.
Without further ado, here are our suggestions for summer 2024.
Pizzeria Melrose
When you enter the Melrose pizzeria, you will find an enchanting decor that will make you feel good from the first steps inside.
On the menu, you will have to make difficult choices between all the possible pizza choices. In total, we have counted more than 50 possibilities including the extras at your disposal.
Vegetarians will also find what they are looking for.
The pizza dough is aged for 72 hours before being stretched, garnished and cooked to perfection.
Salads, pastas and charcuterie platters are also on the menu.
Also try the Nutella dessert pizza or the Cannoli.
Braseiro
This Portuguese restaurant located on St-Laurent Boulevard is an intimate and friendly establishment that offers grilled chicken according to the recipe of the country of origin, grilled meats, fresh fish, seafood and some traditional tapas.
What makes the difference here, and what will make you feel like you are in Portugal, is the charcoal grill. The chef cooks his chicken, sausages and meats (lamb, ribs, Portuguese steak, pork steak, etc.) there.
Of course, grilled sardines occupy a special place on the menu, as do octopus, squid and salted cod.
He even allowed himself to retouch our classic poutine by adding a Portuguese touch (with chouriço meat or chicken).
Le Coin G
This bistro restaurant has been serving and delighting residents of the Villeray district of Montreal for 20 years. It offers breakfast every day until 3 p.m. in addition to offering a table d'hôte menu for lunch and dinner. A wine and cocktail list completes the menu brilliantly.
The main menu is more than complete, with appetizers, salads, mussels and fries, 10-inch thin-crust pizzas, burgers and other sandwiches, pasta choices, tartars, etc.
In total, mussel lovers must choose from six choices of mussels (white wine, marinara, cream, pesto, dijonnaise or madagascar).
If you prefer a vegetarian burger, you can replace the beef patty with a veggie version at no extra cost or with a Beyond Meat patty for a small additional charge.
Restaurant Polleria Melchorita
Here, you can bring your own wine or beer and enjoy Peruvian specialties, including seafood and grilled chicken.
But if you don't have your drink, ask for a chicha morada. This typical Peruvian drink is an infusion of purple corn, cinnamon, cloves, plums and pineapple.
As a starter, try the shrimp soup, a well-kept secret in Montreal among all the restaurants specializing in Peruvian cuisine.
You'll also love the empanadas, these bites of pasta with beef and vegetables.
Knuckles
Our last suggestion, and not the least, will allow you to eat and drink well at a very affordable price.
At Knuckles, gourmet dishes with Italian influences and good wines define the family atmosphere that reigns in the dining room or on the terrace.
Established in the neighborhood since only 2020, Knuckles is making waves because it has now decided to offer exclusively vegetarian dishes. Initially, in the middle of the pandemic, the restaurant only offered takeout and the choices were limited to “knuckles”, copies of pocket pizzas in the shape of fists.
The menu also changes every season, which means that regulars of the place have to get used to... the changes!
