The D'Orsay wants a gourmet pub restaurant and describes himself as "the restaurant that thinks pub." With such a premise, it goes without saying that my expectations, I am a fan of pubs, were high. From the outside, the D'Orsay has certainly looked like a pub with woodwork highlighted, but once inside, it quickly goes side restaurant. Mixing it all, right? Let me explain ...
By entering in this Friday night, I had in mind a place generating a party atmosphere, a warm and friendly atmosphere as we find in most pubs. What a surprise, opening the door to hit me with a classical music barely audible in a quiet or intimate place. We are almost whispers. The brand did not fit at all with the lively vision that I had formed in the area. The client base; a mix of tourists, families and couples of middle ages. Side atmosphere, I hit a wall. It brings us to the floor, I'm a little disappointed, because although the stone walls have the stamp, I expected something less formal like atmosphere. Never mind, we spend a nice evening!
The map is well stocked and seems enticing. It embarks on a 5 course! The evening begins with a tartare of salmon and prawns nice, but that would have been more our favor with more seasoning assumed. As a starter, the fried squid and aioli pleases, despite a somewhat old style presentation. Then comes a very creamy and well seasoned cauliflower cream. In main course arrived moules frites, a generous shells casserole topped with a tasty sauce moutardine. Mussels, like crispy fries met my puck. But I would have appreciated a little more fluid consistency for the sauce, but the taste was at the rendezvous. For dessert, we scored points with the chocolate tulip fruit salad. A simple, but very delicate sweetness. The little crispy pancake was just enough sweet fruits and added a considerable lightness after all these dishes served in generous quantities. Only downside, the tulip was hard to eat elegantly, because she did not break well.
So pub or restaurant? In my view, the D'Orsay is a restaurant, but has, in its decor, some elements challenging the pub as the wide bar, the seats on the ground floor and woodwork. On the menu, it made a proposal recalling the pubs, but predominantly in the restaurant kitchen. atmosphere side, however the restaurant dominates.
