Rumor has long been going on, Duckling is the place to go for breakfast in Quebec City. I wanted to check for myself if the rumor was true; a real professional, what!
First, it must be said that information circulates quickly in this great village, because I was not the only one wanting to know what the pig had in the belly. The growing queue at the door on Friday morning showed me that many city-dwellers had already adopted the restaurant. I did not let myself be discouraged and waited patiently my turn, the game was certainly worth the candle.
The wait was short and we were quickly taken to our table. First, the place impresses with the height of its ceilings. The restaurant, built on two floors, is large, and it needs to be to accommodate the horde of customers who walk in the early morning.
From the outset, we like having a choice of coffee, cappuccino or hot chocolate. I have of course chosen the hot chocolate concocted made from chocolate pastes 64% Laura Secord that is famous for the place. Served in her little cute pot, this drink consistent and unctuous is comforting wish!
For serious things, variety is on the menu. Salty and sweet in abundance and why not both in the same plate to fill the undecided. I really liked the fact that the card has a lot of room for the products here. Quebec cheeses, Orleans Island breads and bagels from Maguire Street, the effort to showcase Quebec is here.
I played the big game, the pig had seduced me, I wanted delicacies, even if the health menu made me an eye for a moment, I fell into vice. The enticing smell of the plates that passed in front of me convinced me.
I chose to go to the act with the plate Délicieuse of the soil. The perfect mix for me. On the salty side, there was a pancake stuffed with duck, onions and leeks topped with a hollandaise sauce and topped with a poached egg. The mixture worked perfectly and my taste buds were filled. The sweetness of the leek and the big pieces of duck formed a happy marriage. The small sauteed potatoes came to complete the salty side of the plate, but it's the element that amazed me the least. Where were the sautéed onions promised? That we understand each other well, they were good, but they were nothing exceptional compared to the rest of the plate that was really "wow". The sweet team had a delicious cranberry toast with a creamy maple sauce. I liked the rustic side of the French toast and the cranberries offered the little different effect that I like to find. A smoothie mini shooter completed the whole thing. Although very good, it was not necessary in my opinion considering the minimal amount. I would have liked to taste homemade apple butter, but it will be for next time.
Side atmosphere, you must love the spirit of French brewery. It rolls, it moves and it speaks loudly. Around us, many friends meet in this festive place, some families too. We do not come for a business lunch, we come to pay the milking and have a good time. The atmosphere is friendly and the height of the ceilings helps to make the noise. We love the large bar that serves as a central place and home atmosphere. Small problem, the toilet is on the second floor, which is a bit far. Space is also restricted to tables, we are stuck on our neighbors.
The service however was very friendly and we were not hired at all, it was greatly appreciated.
The Crazy Pig, definitely the perfect place for a lunch pigs.
