Super delicious, beautiful experience, worth it 100%, free ice cream, I loved this restaurant. I highly recommend. Also Halal certified.
Reviews / Ratings for Soup Zen Hot Pot
i dont think enough people understand they are having a dish called Malatang in chinese. The concept of mini hot pot has been around for a long time in china and yet this place gives zero credit to where this concept comes from. There is no indication inside the restaurant whatsoever. The place looks like a poke restaurant. Just feels like westernized / repackaged for instagram. The food and service itself where fine. But as a chinese this felt like a weird experience seeing my culture being repackaged for the sake of attracting a wider audience. I am not sure what the owners are thinking about that but looks like they are profiting off of a trend if they are not going to explain to the people what the food is about and where it comes from.
Great service and I was always greeted with smiles. Amazing food, was very satisfied. Free ice-cream was the best part
Had a great experience at Soupe Zen Hot Pot. The concept of building your own bowl is really fun, and there are lots of fresh ingredients to choose from. The broth was flavourful, the portions were generous, and everything came out hot and tasty. The staff were friendly and helpful. Overall, a cozy spot for a relaxed meal with friends — definitely recommend and would come back again.
Disappointed with how crowded the area felt, was constantly getting shoved by people passing by. The food was okay but their signature soup was more fishy than anything else. The vegetables, especially the broccoli, were not fresh. Coming from a new hot pot location close by last week, my experience there was better.
The food there is very good but gosh they raised the price AGAIN! Now it’s all the way up to 46/kg. That is serious amount of money to charge. A standard plate 600g will run you 30 bucks. They need to consider pricing better and more rational cause their food is good!
It is something that I am not used to eat. You take your bowl. And add whatever you want from all the ingredients available. Then they weight it, and add the broth of your election. No lemon to add as an option. And a little expensive in my opinion. The ice cream they give you at the end. A new flavor for me. A sweet potato and vanilla ice cream. I didn't like it a lot. That is my experience. For noodles 🍜 lovers, it may be a very good place to eat.
Food poisoning. Unfortunately I came here a few months ago and it was great, but today was a completely different experience. Ended the night in the bathroom. Now I'm scrolling through the reviews warning about food poisoning and wishing I'd seen them sooner. To answer the question below: Friday evening around 7. I had mushrooms, lamb, a bunch of greens and egg. With the Sha cha broth. Thanks for looking into this
My favourite place in Montreal, absolutely amazing! Be prepared to wait in a line outside, but it’s worth it. Halal options available.
I love this concept. I do wish there were more vegetable options and that the vegetables were cut smaller (whole baby carrots should be halved, for example). I tried the tomato broth this time and it was incredible. There are vegetarian and vegan options, but if cross-contamination concerns you, then your out of luck, since people choose all their ingredients with one set of tongs. Definitely remember to join the waitlist, as it's often full!
Excellent service, atmospheric place, delicious food and a large selection of ingredients and broth
There was a bit of a wait since I didn’t know we had to “reserve” a place, but the waiters were really nice with it, best waiters were these two males. (A short white brunette guy he was really welcoming and sweet. A tall brunette i believe asian really sweet too!) We didn’t wait too long (probably 10 minutes) and the service was actually pretty fast. The atmosphere is nice and cozy. The restaurant isn’t as big as I expected but it’s still really good honestly! I was expecting it to be 3.99/100g like I was told but when I arrived there they said it was 4.99/100g. I LOVE that they have free sauces, free drinks (weekdays before 5pm) and even free ice cream at the end! The concept of paying by the weight of your food is such a good idea, I wish more restaurants would do that. Just be extra careful if you load up your bowl like I did by mistake because it can get expensive 😭 Mine was $50 because I packed it but honestly? Worth it. The bathrooms are clean, the whole place is clean and everything felt well taken care of tbh. One warning though, be careful when you grab your bowl because it’s SUPER hot. I burned myself twice but the food was so good I didn’t even care. Overall, really good experience! Would definitely come back :D
** Trust the comments don’t be like me, I had food poisoning too** I used to love going to this place, but recently I’ve noticed a major decline. First, and most concerning, I got food poisoning, possibly from the meat or another ingredient. Speaking of the meat, unfortunately the quality of the food has changed, the meat is very dry and has a strong smell. The bowls where you put your ingredients are washed quickly and still wet and it’s not pleasing to see. Overall, this was a very disappointing experience and it’s very unfortunate because it’s one of my favourite restaurants to go to
Today was the last drop, food poisoning.. both me and my wife had symptoms a few hours after we finished eating. I visited many times and the quality of the food kept declining, the meat is dry and chewy and the drinks are not good. We gave this place many chances because the staff is lovely, however food poisoning for 2 people is the limit, never going there again.
First time trying this place and I LOVED it! The concept is so fun. You pick exactly what you want and the price goes by the weight, which I think is such a smart idea. You can really build your perfect bowl. The portions are HUGE (I was so full I didn’t even have room for the free ice cream at the end 😂). The decor is beautiful and super aesthetic, and the whole place has such a nice vibe. The employees were really welcoming and friendly, which made the experience even better. Definitely recommend making a reservation because it fills up fast. Can’t wait to go back!
We had a food poisoning We were a group of 8 for our friend’s birthday. First we called in advance and even tho they knew we where a party, they told us we couldn’t reserve ( some business don’t accept reservations and it’s all right that ain’t the issue. ) We arrived about an 40 minutes before the hour we fixed (5:40 pm so we were there at 5 ). The waitress ( extremely kind btw ) told us we needed to be on a waiting list. The waiting list told us we could only eat at 6:36pm. The waitress ( really kind ) told us we could have a table at 6pm because she knew we were a huge group and she’ll talk to the other waitress to not assign anyone at the table next to the first table of 4 when the clients will be over. Well someone actually put clients at the table that was supposed to be ours ( We understand that it aint the fault if the restaurant is full ) and they still asked us to make our bowls even tho our table wasn’t ready. We paid for our food, and well usually you are supposed to wait at your table but we couldn’t sit down because there were 2 clients over with their foods, the foods was packed, coats on and they were on their cellphone for a good 15 minutes. During this time we had to wait near the sauce bar, kitchen and bathroom blocking all those entries because we were a group of 8 so we were blocking staff and other clients because of that. After the waitress ( the one that made the mistake) talked to the 2 clients that they needed to leave because even tho we putted all our things at the table right next to them they didn’t know there were clients waiting for them to leave. ( here again the clients behaviour is not the restaurant problem. ) We sat down and we waited an other 15 minutes for 3 bowls to arrive. We still waited 30 minutes for other bowls to come and still not every one had their bowl. I was one of the last and one of us received their bowl when everyone was almost over that’s not normal. We understand the restaurant was full but usually when you have a group you try to bring all the food in a short laps of time because especially if we already wait 30 minutes before getting the first 3 bowls. My friend took the miso broth one she said it was awful, I took the #1 with medium spice broth ( if you usually get the medium spice in a restaurant take the soft one has a spice lover I can tell you this was not medium but I like it any way ). For the food it was awful. Everything that has see food was horrible, the fried stuff was all squishy I wanted to puke instantly. The only thing that was good was the meat, the bokchoy and the broth. At least it was served hot. Two of us had a food poisoning we didn’t ask the others.
Came to visit Montreal with my husband and let me tell you… this has to be one of our new favourite restaurants. Bowls were amazing, versatile with fresh ingredients brought out every few minutes for restock and the employees were just wow. So kind, attentive and helpful when it came to our needs as guests (also my allergies- and yes I’m that one problematic customer allergic to peanuts and sesame going to a restaurant like this). Overall the experience was incredible! Came for Iftar and ended up getting two bowls and a boba which totalled to about 70$. Bowls are based on weight so this will definitely vary. You also get free ice cream at the end of your meals which was hands-down one of the best soft-serve I’ve ever had. When it came to our table we joined the yelp waiting list and it notified us when table was ready (couldn’t have been more than 25-30 minutes from the time we joined @ 5:15pm) Can’t wait to come back again!!
Food poisoning
i came here and was thoroughly disappointed w the quality of the food. i really don’t enjoyed the gentrified visual of the place. the servers were really nice tho. it’s just a shame the food is bad :/
So disappointed by the value and service. Despite a large staff presence, service was inconsistent and slow—some of orders didn’t arrive until more than 45 minutes after ordering, while some of my friend’s dishes were served promptly. The soup tasted overly artificial, lacking the rich, nutty flavor I’d hoped for. ———————————— Updated Review: I can see that there have been improvements in the kitchen workflow compared to my previous visit. The service feels more organized, and the overall experience has improved. That said, there is still some waiting time during peak hours, so it may take a bit longer to receive your food when it’s busy. On a positive note, the menu now offers a wider selection, and the flavors have improved as well, making the dining experience more enjoyable than before.
Super good and cozy. But it would be nice to have a reservation system. Had to wait 1-2 hours in line to get a seat even though I told the day before I would come with 5 other people:/. Food is really good but can become expensive!!
My bowl ended up being more expensive than I thought but it was really good and the experience is definitely worth it. I was also pleasantly surprised by the taste, the signature broth was amazing, definitely recommend getting that one. The sauce station was really fun aswell. I would definitely go back with more self control
My friend and I were so excited to try this soup because of the amount of recommendations we found on TikTok about this place. We went yesterday and we did not know you have to add yourself to the waitlist upon arriving because the place is full specially that Friday night. We found the soup overpriced and we both ended up paying 62$ for 2 soups and 2 sodas. When we left the restaurant and arrived home, my stomach started to hurt so much, I started vomiting all night and couldn’t sleep till 8am because I got reflux. My friend was sick too, we were both intoxicated and is such a shame because we were not expecting this experience to end up like this. Unfortunately I wouldn’t recommend this place to my family or friends and I am definitely not going back as I almost ended up going to the hospital.
Lovely place! Soul satisfying! The purple yam ice cream was soo good. Will visit again.
