We had a big birthday dinner. It was nice and fancy. One thing that disappointed me was there was only 1 chicken plate option.

Reviews / Ratings for Gibbys
I have been a patron of Gibbys my entire life. My family and I have been celebrating special occasions here for decades. My most recent experience last night was so disappointing, I felt I needed to leave a review. I was looking forward to a lovely evening for my mother’s 75th birthday. I had ordered the beef wellington before and It was excellent. However this time around, the entire meal was mediocre at best and the service, terrible. Firstly, for one of the most expensive restaurants in the city, I was surprised to enter the front door to a very old smelling atmosphere. Like dirty carpets and old wood. I think some renovations are in order. The bathrooms are also dingy and old which is never a good indicator of cleanliness. My filet mignon which I ordered medium (a common cuisson) arrived rare on the inside. It was returned back to the kitchen and was reheated cut open and returned back to me well done and dry. It was sent back for a second time and when returned back was now blue. Even rarer than the first time. My mother who’s birthday it was, ate her meal by herself. I did not want to return my meal back yet again for a third time. Most of the steak was left uneaten. We ordered dessert and coffee and finished our desserts by time the coffee arrived in a dirty cup with crusted on food that the waitress was scraping off in front of me with her nail. She seems annoyed when I asked for a clean cup, perhaps that was why I got water spilled all over me from her. Not even an apology. My mother was so upset that her birthday meal was ruined and her dinner companion (her daughter) sat and watched her eat, she cried. She felt she wanted to speak to the manager. My 75 year old mother has yet to be called back after leaving TWO messages. It seems that gibbys does not pride itself on the service and food quality it once did. I was sorry to hear the st sauver location closed down. I hope that is not an indication on what is to come for old montreal. Resolution: Two bring this review up to date. Last weekend, Gibby’s invited myself and my mother back for an all expenses paid dinner as an apology for the terrible experience. It was a lovely dinner. The food was good and the service was excellent by Nancy who was a doll.
Had a wonderful meal, charming quiet spot for lunch on a snowy day. Staff was extremely friendly. The food was delicious. I'm not the biggest fan of Montreal steak seasoning but the ribeye was still good. We'll definitely come back here next time we're in Montreal.
Had a wonderful lunch here with family for a party. Personally, I had the Gibbys Salad and the Pepper Steak which were both delicious! A thank you to Vitali, Alex M., and Adib for their great service and for making our experience more than enjoyable!
Fantastic service from Vitaly ! Would come back just for him :)
My partner and I wanted to enjoy a nice steak dinner and came across Gibbys upon our research. We had an incredible experience, from the ambiance, service, to the food. Definitely a 10/10, we’re already looking forward to our next dining experience at Gibbys!
Went last week with my friends & absolutely loved the atmosphere , the decor was as if we went back in times with a touch of modernity. The drinks were great & our sirloin steak were cooked perfectly but the service of our server Benafsha was amazing ,very attentive service . Would definitely come back
A true Montreal classic! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Dinner at Gibbys Steakhouse was outstanding from start to finish. The food was absolutely unbelievable, perfectly prepared and full of flavor. A special thank you to Diane for the incredible service — she truly made our evening memorable with her attention and warmth. If you’re in Montreal and looking for an amazing steakhouse experience, Gibbys is a must.
A Montreal institution that needs no introduction. To me, best steakhouse in the city. Great, straight to the point food. Old school vibe but sometimes, that’s just what you need. Fair value in times where restaurants are going completely nuts with their prices. You don’t feel robbed leaving this place.
Was there in January with a large group on Saturday night. Very busy place. To keep it short and sweet I’ll get to the point. It’s a feeding factory. They are quite good at feeding masses of people in a relatively short time. Atmosphere is hectic and chaotic. If you’re idea of sitting in a loud and noisy cramped cave on a Saturday night is charming then go ahead. Our waiter provided good service. Food is another story. Rib Steak at $85 was cooked properly and taste was not bad. However the quality is of the lowest grade. Tough and chewy and I kid you not I had difficulty cutting it with a steak knife.. Monte Carlo potato was extremely sad and pathetic looking with no taste. Very bland.. operating costs are high in establishments like this and I understand they are trying to turn a profit but upper management who does the purchasing should be ashamed of themselves for buying the lowest grade of product At least the pickles were good Extremely overrated
Great quality steak and tartare. Unbeatable as a lunch menu in a steakhouse.
This is a review about redemption. My wife and I and friends visited Gibby’s in January and it was not what we had hoped it would be. There were issues with one of the steaks and the service was mediocre. I posted a detailed review and I was very pleasantly surprised when I was contacted by Fatima Roman, the floor manager. She offered us the option of returning and having the restaurant comp our main courses. I have always maintained that the mark of an excellent organization is not that they never fail, rather what they do when they fail to meet their standards. Well, we returned last night and we were treated like royalty by Fatima and the Director General, Jose Lourenco. The service and food lived up to and exceeded our expectations. And our cocktails and a dessert were comped as well. The restaurant more than redeemed itself and we will continue to patronize it, as we have for decades.
One of the city's iconic steak house in the heart of Old Montreal. It's pricey but it's a unique dining treasure restaurant located in an historical 17th century stone building.
Gibbys used to feel like such a safe haven — a true institution known for comfort food and consistency. While we appreciated seeing some younger, fresh faces on staff and noticed a few updates, we were genuinely surprised to find that — other than hen — there is no chicken dish on the menu. Really? Did no one notice? They used to serve a lovely Chicken Kiev, which many of us remember fondly. I mentioned this concern to reception twice before, but unfortunately felt dismissed. It’s disappointing. Gibby would surely turn over in his grave, and Claudia would not be pleased. I suppose all good things eventually come to an end — but we had hoped Gibbys would remain one of the exceptions.
Vitaly, Justin, Charlie and Martin were stellar, we had a huge group and stayed way later than appropriate but they were all amazing the entire night (Vitaly was our main server). Incredible place
Dropped in for a bachelor party & had a great time. Food & service were fantastic. Would highly recommend for groups.
We’ve tried their lunch and as always their meat is just so good. They even give you a sorbet after the appetizer to clean your palate. The only thing I didn’t like is the dessert which is a pecan pie and it’s just too sweet. Try the boeuf a Diane, it’s so good. They have valet parking so it’s a big plus considering how busy it is in the summer or when weather is good.
Very disappointed with my recent experience at Gibbys. I made a reservation for 8:00 PM and arrived exactly on time, yet I was still asked to wait in line. If guests respect your schedule and show up as requested, their time should be respected as well. To make matters worse, I left my name and number for a manager to follow up, and never received a call. Gibbys used to feel like a special place to go out, with a certain standard and atmosphere. Now it seems that standard has slipped, with people being admitted in very casual attire like sweatpants. Whatever happened to maintaining a dress code and the experience that made this restaurant stand out? Honestly, what a shame.
Gibby's is by far one of the best restaurants we have ever been to. From the amazing architecture to the romantic atmosphere. Our Server, Justin, provided attentive and personal service, ensuring that our entire experience was the best it could possibly be. In addition to the best steak we have ever had, the Old Fashioned was tough to beat. While the cost was high, we truly got what we paid for and would do it again. This is a must for anyone in Montreal.
Usually my go to for important life celebration and fancy food. This review is only marked down because of my own feelings and should not be considered in your decision to eat there or not. They took away the chicken Kiev and that was my favorite. I have yet to go back since and really miss it. I only am doing this so that if the owners see it they might consider bringing it back.
It's so sad to see this iconic restaurant having lost its edge. The steak was pretty good, but that's about it. The salad is different, the monte carlo was inedible, as were the desserts. I don't need to go back, too bad.
Gibbys, just one word and I will say it in my mother tongue, French: Magistral! World class service, superb food, and you know, when you do a classic like Escargots à la Bourguignonne way better than most of your peers (especially way better than those who are supposed to deliver the best version of that), and that is your case, all I can say is "Salut l'artiste!". Impressed I was! And not to forget the tableside Brazilian coffee: I am sure you already know that, but this is a first in Montreal. And that was also very very world class. You will win many hearts with that one (not that you are not already winning hearts. Of course you do: your dining rooms were packed to the brim when I was there!).
We had an absolutely wonderful dinner at Gibbys last night. The historic and cozy atmosphere was stunning, but what truly made our evening unforgettable was the exceptional service. We visited with our three children, which can sometimes be a bit challenging, but our server, Sarah, was incredibly kind and attentive. She went above and beyond to make sure our kids were comfortable and well-taken care of. Thanks to her warm hospitality, our family gathering became the best dining experience we’ve had in Montreal. The steaks were cooked to perfection, and the entire course—from the pickles to the cheese cake—was delightful. If you’re looking for a place with great food and a heart-warming atmosphere, I highly recommend Gibbys. Special thanks to Sarah for making our night so special!💕
I've been to this restaurant twice (once it was fine). But last time the service was terrible. We came as a group, and no waiter came to our table for a long time. When we asked for the check, we waited a long time, and then waited another 25 minutes for the payment terminal. But the worst thing was that the oysters we got were spoiled. The beaf tartare smelled bad.
We come from vacations and we saw this restaurant online and looks so good and I went yesterday with my partner to have dinner , the vibes , the food and everything was excellent , definitely a restaurant I will come back but it was a issue with my experience at this restaurant the service was really bad, I think his name is Salomon ( sorry if I don’t remember his name) he was nice at the beginning but after he took out order that was it , he stop taking care of our table , we finish the salad and he never removed our plates we finish our meal and he did not take our plates away, he serve us water and the glass was dirty, he just stop approaching to us , and you can tell he was just talking with the tables who order bottles of wines ( we’re about to buy one but after seeing that we don’t want it anymore)I believe if you go to a fancy and expensive restaurant you are expected to have a really nice quality of food and a excellent experience with the service, in the other hand his co worker he took care of us so we decided to tip him instead that our “ server “ anyways , the food is was delicious so we are coming back, but definitely the manager need to have a talk with this guy. And hoping you guys can read my review!
