We came for dinner, no air conditioning, we were sweating, did not enjoy the food, rib steak full of tendon…

Really nice spot for an authentic steak dinner. The ambiance and location are great, and the whole place has a classic old-school steakhouse feel. The steak plates are around $90 and are more than enough for one person, especially with the generous bowl of salad that comes with them. They did mix up my order and brought me a steak instead of the Wellington I had ordered, but they handled it very well and graciously added the Wellington at no extra charge. Excellent service and a memorable dining experience overall.
The most delicious Beef Wellington, and the kindest staff! You will certainly have the meal of your life here.
Best steakhouse in montreal !!!
Good environment but food is just so and so.
The beef wellington was excellent!
4.5/5 stars. Great spot for dinner with excellent service. We ordered the beef Wellington and 15 oz sirloin. The beef Wellington was delicious and we would absolutely order it again, but unfortunately the sirloin was chewy and hard to eat. We also ordered fries on the side, which were also unfortunately very soggy. The starter Gibbys salad was great, and the lemon sorbet was a nice touch. We were celebrating a birthday and they brought out dessert with a little candle as well! Overall great spot!
Absolutely the BEST steakhouse in all of Montreal! The Beef Wellington is everything people say it is... and more. Don't pass up the chance to get a Gibbys "Old Fashioned" - the surprise does not disappoint! The 17th century dining room is worth visit alone - absolutely spectacular! Caroline gave us the warmest, most gracious service we could have every imagined. She is truly a credit to this beloved restaurant. From the moment she came to our table, she made us feel like we'd come home!
Good steak selection on the menu. Quality steak but mine was over cooked.
Gibby’s Steakhouse is a super cute restaurant that fits perfectly with the Old Montreal vibe. Service was welcoming and attentive throughout our meal. My mom and I both ordered the fixed-price lunch menu. For appetizers, I had the beef tartare and she had the French onion soup, both were delicious, but portions were generous and we couldn’t quite finish them since we wanted to save room for the rest of the meal. We were also served a lemon sorbet in between courses, which was a nice palate cleanser. For entrées, I had the Diane steak and my mom had the Youville rack of lamb. Both were cooked perfectly to our tastes and were very flavorful. The only minor downside was that the vegetable portion felt quite small, just a few pieces of asparagus and a small pepper. For dessert, we both had the chocolate cake of the day. It was a bit dry, but still enjoyable overall. Overall, a very nice dining experience with great service and well-prepared food.
Gibbys is hands-down the best steakhouse I have ever been to. The setting in Old Montreal is incredibly cool—the building is actually an old converted horse stable, which gives it an amazing, historic atmosphere. The food was spectacular, but what truly blew us away was the service. Our server was absolutely phenomenal and clearly a seasoned pro. Their attention to detail, ability to anticipate our every need, and incredible memory when it came to managing the table and clearing dishes was top-tier. The staff went above and beyond to make our night special. We had to move our table slightly over, and due to that tiny inconvenience, they completely surprised us by treating us to sorbet with brandy. It was such a class-act move. Gibbys is an absolute must-visit if you are in Montreal. I will definitely be back!
What a great restaurant!! Loved the authentic atmosphere. Service was unbelievable and the food quality the best I’ve had in a long time!
Really fantastic food. Well worth the trip.
Hands down the best steak I have had ever! Our server Carolyn was amazing and answered all questions we had. This is our first time in Canada and she was super helpful translating as well! 10/10
Great food, Great service 👍
Great experience at Gibbys. I highly recommend the Gibbys salad. Only thing was my steak was done a little rare for medium, which I did notify the server of and they brought it back to cook more. The lemon sorbet is a nice touch after the salads. It is pricey but you will leave stuffed. I got the filet minion. The drinks were good.
The food is always great here. Chicken with wine sauce on the side. the chicken was tender n juicy. not dried at all. RIB steak.... i asked for medium rare but came out well down. So the waiter changed it for a new one. the clam chouddar soup is very good. Not hot enough though. I asked for a hoter but it was still the same.
Solid 5 star but taking one star off because the hostess asked our name and number and when we asked why, she couldnt answer.( it was tuesday lunch and was not busy) Food, Appetizers, Complimentary bread was good. Oyster rocker fella, was not great. Beef tartar was great flavour and refreshing. Escargot was great and dipping that complimentary bread was great combo. French onion soup was great. - this was what i have got and it was the best french onion soup i have ever gotten!!! Id recommend, tartar, french onion soup, and escargot. Lemon sorbet was delightful!!!! I’d pay for it separately for sure. So refreshing and yummy!! Main, Burger was great. Striploin with peppercorn sauce was subpar. It was not true medium rare (some parts were well done, some were medium rare, some parts were rare and the fat has not rendered… and all so very smoky “flavour” which i didn’t love.. because it was more of a burnt taste to me) Dessert was chocolate cake and it was good. Cake itself was ok but the chocolate cream layer in top was so rich, creamy and delicious. Coffee also came with it and was good coffee. All of us ordered lunch special. I loved everything but main entree. For the price you pay it is a great lunch spot!! Also pickle slaps here.
We have eaten there for the last 20 years. This time the steaks were a disaster. Even the replacement steaks were tough and stringy. We'll celebrate elsewhere next year.
Pretty phenomenal experience. Great spot, reservations definitely recommended. Meal prepared as expected, great choices, very pleased with our meal.
One of the best steakhouse in Montreal. With its location, parking is always an issue. Srrvice is impeccable. No child special menu, except for a small portion of pastas.
I was looking forward to returning to Gibbys, I went 20 years ago and it was one of the best steak dinners I ever had. Fast forward to this past Saturday (5/15) it it was a HUGE disappointment, in short, it was a bad piece of meat ( more fat than meat) it should never have been served. The head waiter did agree and it was taken off my bill. It was nice of them, but I went there to eat, not to leave hungry
Unfortunately this old staple is tired and not what it used to be. The quality of the food and service do not match the cost. The steak was cold upon arrival, they took it back and re-heated it on the grill. For an $85.00 steak that’s horrible. It was then burnt and chewy. The steakhouse martini didn’t come with blue cheese olives, when I asked they said they would check, never addressed it after. The manager did come over to offer free dessert for one and comped the meal which is why I gave 2 stars instead of 1. The chicken and pepper steak were better quality and the lobster was good.
Would not recommend. The rib steak is cooked rare while i asked for medium rare. It tastes plain, fatty, and chewy as rubber.
This place is highly overrated and overpriced. 90$ for a beef wellington, really? The sauce with the beef wellington was like a groceries average oversalted brown sauce. My expactation were probably too high reading all the amazing reviews and the 4.6 average score. This place is a tourist trap. For that much money, go to Lucca or Moccione in Villeray. Way way better.
