Do you know food tours? These are guided walking tours that take you to the greedy spots of a city to sample a variety of delectable products and dishes. What better way to soak up a city than to taste it?

What to expect?

On average, visits range from 2 to 4 hours and all tastings are included in the price. It's not always about restaurants, sometimes you bring participants into bakeries, chocolate shops, butchers or even microbreweries. Most companies follow a logical order (we end with sweet!) And after all these tastings we are well satisfied, even if we do not always have a complete main course included.

If you travel a little, you may have realized that food tours are extremely popular and can be found in just about every major city on the globe. The guides are usually locals and also tell us the history of the city through the course.

In Quebec

Want to try? It's good when you're a tourist, but the companies also welcome many residents who want to see their own city in a different light. Often, they discover places they did not even know existed! Why not start furrowing Montreal and Quebec by the belly?

In Montreal, you can try Local Montreal gourmet tours. The company offers two tours, those of Mile-End and Old Montreal. Both are for 3 hours and offer a walk of 2.3 km. In the Mile-End, visitors are brought to La Panthère Verte for the famous falafels, Bagel St-Viateur House and Kem Coba for the most delicious ice cream. On the Old Montreal side, there are 7 stops including Cantinho de Lisboa, a Portuguese-style indoor market, Cookie Stefanie for her famous carrot cake and Les Soeurs Grises for a beer accompanied by cheeses.

In the capital, Visites gourmandes de Québec offers two different courses: one in Old Quebec and the other in St-Roch. Lasting 2h15, the first trip includes 5 stops and 12 tastings. We visit among others the Chic Shack, the Restaurant La Bûche and the Augustinian Monastery. That of St-Roch takes 3 hours and includes 12 tastings, including two craft beers and high-end teas.
