More beers, less drinkers, a fire at La Maison de Débauche and the döner kebab arrive in Montreal

More beers, less drinkers, a fire at La Maison de Débauche and the döner kebab arrive in Montreal

Here is a quick delivery of a trio of news about Quebec's restaurant industry:

A recent cross-Canada survey reveals that the number of microbreweries has doubled in Canada in five years, but the number of hops has dropped by 7%. The figures were compiled by Beer Canada, the group of entrepreneurs producing 90% of the liquor in Canada. Newfoundland and Labrador receives the most beer in the country while Quebec comes in second, with an average of 83.3 liters per capita per year.

While everything was in place at La Maison De Débauche in Trois-Rivières to celebrate the 15th anniversary of the establishment, a fire broke out but was quickly extinguished by the activation of the sprinklers. Without this equipment, "the whole street could have passed," said owner Dany Bruneau at Nouvelliste. The fire did not do as much damage as the water left by the sprinklers. The damage is estimated at $ 100,000. The long-awaited party is postponed to a later date.

Finally, Station Berlin in Montreal adds the döner kebab to its menu, the German sandwich that originated from the Turkish kebab and is more popular than the burger in this part of Europe! This authentic recipe is simple but oh so tasty: grilled meat on a spit cut into thin slices, placed in a Turkish round loaf and accompanied by sauces and vegetables. At Station Berlin you can also discover other dishes of German street food and vegetarian dishes.
