Despite the difficult times for Quebec restaurateurs, due to the circumstances known to all and which have prevailed since March 2020, some are still successful, others are encouraged by the community and one group in particular has done good business. Nevertheless.
First, the Laurentians region saw four restaurants in the region be nominated for the Gale des Lauriers, which celebrates local gastronomy and which will unveil its winners on May 24:

  • La Belle Histoire: restaurant of the year, sommelier of the year (Sophie Allaire) and best service.
  • Merci la vie bakery: baker of the year
  • Balsam tree: revelation of the year

For these restaurateurs, these nominations are greeted like a pat on the back. They give them the energy to continue their efforts, with the same passion and the same love for the profession. We wish them good luck!
Then, the Sherbrooke organization decided to adapt its format for the 2021 edition after canceling its presentation last year. This time, the theme will be "Printemps rosé SAQ" and the public is invited to visit 20 establishments in the Eastern Townships. For the occasion, these restaurants will be paired with producers of pink drinks from the Quebec region and will have to work on a tapas-wine, beer or cider pairing. The event will take place from June 7 to 13 and the list of participating restaurateurs will be unveiled shortly.
Finally, the MTY Group unveiled its figures for its last quarter, the first of 2021. By posting a profit of 13.4 million, compared to the 19 million achieved last year, the company underlines the noticeable declines in sales of these restaurants located in shopping centers and those located in office towers. As a result, storefront restaurant sales accounted for 85% of the company’s revenue. Remember that MTY has a portfolio of around 80 brands, including Thai Express, Tiki-Ming, Tutti Frutti, Ben & Florentine and Valentine.
