8 foods whose name has an amazing meaning!

Do you know why the foods you eat are so called? The names given to food and dishes we love sometimes very surprising origins. Here are eight of the most curious!


1. Clementine
This little sweet fruit appeared following a cross between mandarin and a bitter orange conducted by Father Clement Rodier on. The latter has given his name to it.



2. The brick cheese
The brick cheese bears its name because of the rectangular molds used to make it. Indeed, as they were shaped brick, it resulted in its name.



3. The ciabatta bread
Ciabatta meaning "slipper" in Italian, this bread was named for its elongated and flat shape.



4. Saint-Jacques shells
The name of this seafood dish comes from the pilgrims of Saint Jacques de Compostela which in the Middle Ages were using scallop shells to beg and eat.



5. The rum baba
Have you ever tasted this cupcake? In fact, the word baba means "old woman" or "grandmother". And they would have named because of its shape reminiscent of peasant skirts swollen.



6. The passion fruit
This fruit was called in this way by Spanish missionaries who found that the shape of the flowers of fruit made them think of aspects of the Passion of Christ.



Osso buco 7.
This typical Italian food simply means "bone hole". It was designated in this way because of bone pierced veal shanks that are used for preparation.



8. The kiwi


This green fruit was baptized by New Zealanders in honor of the bird, the kiwi, which is the emblematic animal of the country. Made funny, kiwi originated in China, but New Zealand grown in large quantities.
