La Souche Limoilou: back to basics

Located in the effervescent Limoilou district of Quebec, the microbrewery La Souche is one of those establishments that give soul to the area. Located a stone's throw from a CEGEP and surrounded by residential buildings, it has become the social haunt of many people.

It must be said that we are well received. The waiters and bartenders seem to have found a second home here. You have the feeling of entering with friends and the warm decor with wood paneling gives the impression of arriving at the chalet. We're doing well. The restaurant is divided into three areas, a large dining bar and two dining rooms. On the wall, canvases by local artists for sale also give the place a special cachet.

Good beers
La Souche is known for its beers that it makes itself, but above all for their flavors! The brewing team does not hesitate to do burst tests. A pint of dates and maple? Why not ? But they are often offered for a limited time. So you have to come back frequently, but we don't complain! My favorite among the regular products: Limoilou Beach, a sour beer with blackcurrants, perfectly balanced. It is closely followed by Fram Bois, another raspberry sour. We also love above all, the look of the cans, featuring funny illustrations.

Great food
Are we talking about food? In terms of cuisine, La Souche also provides! The menu is varied and there are vegetarian options available. The small starters to share are interesting and I let myself be tempted by the homemade fallafels. Rather than being presented in traditional small dumplings, the three chickpea croquettes were shaped like flat patties. Seasoned with cumin, fresh herbs and lemon, they were served with lime sour cream and home-made flatbread. A delight ! For the main course, I could not help but spoil myself with "the poutine", the one for which the place is famous: Les boules du bûcheron. Basically, the Beer BBQ sauce gives a little interesting kick to the poutine. But what makes it unique are the fried cheese curd croquettes. A perfect crunchy and soft addition, spiced up with a sauce of jerky spices. Quite simply de-ca-dent.

COVID-19: La Souche offers take-out meals, as well as a beer shop. It also offers a delivery service.
