Celebrate vintage with Pat Retro

Even though Pat Rétro, this little iconic Quebec snack bar, has just celebrated its 40th anniversary, I was, for my part, on my very first visit. Make no mistake, I love snack bars, but I particularly like those located on the side of the highway during the summer season.

It is above all the decor of the small restaurant that makes us take the detour to the area of ??rue Maguire in Sainte-Foy. Vintage lovers, this establishment is your temple! Jukebox, red leatherette benches, Pepsi posters, everything is there to take us back a few years. In the room there is a mix of older regulars and young people who have come to enjoy the affordable food. Not surprisingly, the menu offers the classics: hot dogs, poutines, clubs and burgers and co.

Celebrating four decades for a restaurant in the same location is an achievement that I warmly salute. For the occasion, a sample of different dishes was served to us: poutine, fries, pogos, burgers, etc. My favorite was the hot pepper burger which brought a refreshing touch to the fairly traditional menu. Although meat loaves once seduced Céline Dion and René Angélil, they left me rather indifferent. The fries didn't win me over either. Not blanched in advance, they have a different texture, a little less tender than the “potato” we are used to. On this point, I prefer the classic!

In summary, will I make the detour via Sainte-Foy to return there? Unfortunately no. But nostalgic people will undoubtedly appreciate the unique atmosphere of Pat Rétro.
