I was so impressed with the meal. The warm ambiance and fresh food were both excellent. I loved the variety and the quality. The staff were very attentive and provided great service. A special place that I’ll be telling everyone about! It was wonderful.

Exactly what you think it will be - heavy, loud, and cramped - but a roaring great time with great sandwiches! Had to downgrade slightly on atmosphere because there is always a long wait and its hard to move… there is no structured area for queuing.

Although i think the meat could be more on the juicier side, the overall taste and ingredient quality was very good and especially the warm welcome from the staff made this a proper local experience. Definitely would recommend visiting this restaurant as it lives up to the hype.

The restaurant itself is definitely older and a bit cramped, but that's part of its character. That said, the food is definitely as advertised. The sandwich was delicious and the fries were quite good. I would recommend adding the cherry cola to a sandwich order. Also, you get enough fries that it will serve two people easily. I would recommend showing up for lunch before noon on the weekend or else expect to wait a while for a table with the line likely to stretch out the door.

Long line up no matter the time. Roast beef was kind of underwhelming. A bit dry, and not much flavour. Centre street deli in Toronto tastes a lot better in my opinion. A big change in taste from 10 years ago.

So good that we had to go a second time on our recent trip. Love, love, love the smoked meat sandwich with medium fat (better than Katz’s in NYC). The pickles and coleslaw were good too. The service is quick, friendly and funny, while the interior is perfectly old school.

First time here since I was in town for vacation. I had to go since I had heard some much hype about it and it lived up to it. The smoked meat sandwich was huge and delicious. I also got a black cherry soda which was recommended. Loved the old school atmosphere. Would definitely come back!

I know its a tourist trap kinda place but we did it anyway and weren't disappointed. Shared a smoked meat medium and got a couple pickles. Maybe a little more than we would pay in a different location but it was a good size for lunch.

I don't know many recommendations here, but nothing special. I could make a smoked meat sandwich with the same flavor at home. I'm just here while traveling in Montreal, but it's not special for me.

Two weeks ago during our visit to Montreal, we went to this restaurant. After dinner, we left a tip, but the lady at the cashier seemed unhappy with the amount. She told us that for bills over $100, a tip higher than 15% was mandatory, and she rudely waved the tip money in front of us. We found this behavior very disrespectful and uncomfortable. Unfortunately, after this experience, we would not consider coming back again.

Visited Schwartz Deli on a Sunday afternoon at 3 PM. There were 3 of us and we waited for 30 minutes outside with only a few groups ahead. The place was crowded. We were seated at a shared table with 6 seats. We ordered two smoked meat sandwiches and one poutine. The smoked meat was tender, the bread was thin and dry, and portions were small. The poutine was disappointing. Fries were overcooked and tasted burnt. The bill came to about $50 (tax included, before tip), which felt overpriced for the quality and small portion size. Service was mediocre and rushed. The restaurant seemed more focused on turnover than experience. While Schwartz Deli has a long-standing reputation and history, in my opinion, it was underwhelming and didn’t live up to the hype. There are many other great restaurants worth exploring. This was a one-time visit, and unfortunately, not somewhere I’d return to.
