I’m visiting Montreal and was really looking forward to trying this spot, as it seems to have a lot of history. While there were some positives, my overall experience was a bit mixed. I ordered the smoked meat sandwich, and the flavor itself was good. However, the meat was quite greasy, which unfortunately left me with an uncomfortable, gassy stomach afterward. The fries were also disappointing—soggy, overly heavy, and darker than expected—so I wasn’t able to finish them. On a positive note, the staff were friendly and the service was efficient. That said, the overall atmosphere felt like the restaurant may have seen better days, with things coming across a bit routine rather than intentional. With some attention to food preparation and perhaps a refresh of the space, this place could really live up to its reputation again. I’m glad I tried it, but I do think there’s room for improvement.

This is the real deal. For Montréalers pastrami gets no respect. There is no alternative to Schwartz's viande fumée. I've been coming here since before Google Maps existed. This time I ordered a poutine with viande fumée on top. The meat is good as always, with a unique flavor and aroma others can't imitate. The poutine, I must say is surprisingly good. It had the right amount of cheese and the gravy was extremely flavorful. That solves two problems for me as now I don't have to go elsewhere for poutine any more.

WOW! I had the classic.... a reuben and fries. The meat was so soft and perfect. There was 0 fat in it. And they did not skimp! The fries were great too. Absolutely fantastic. As a bonus, my meal was ready by the time I went to the bathroom to wash my hands!

Still my fav' Smoked Meat spot on planet earth. So distinct in flavour yet subtle, although I was raised in this great town, I'm now an ex-pat. As such whenever I'm home I make sure to hit this spot, always tops on my list of places to visit.!

Loved Schwartz Deli . Don’t let the line deter you it moves quickly . Highly recommend eating inside to experience it properly. Be warned it is a tight squeeze and you could be sharing a table with strangers but it only added to the fun . Portions are huge and so so delicious. Staff was helpful explaining the menu and throwing in some recommendations. My husband got the traditional smoked meat sandwich which he said melted in his mouth and I got the Chicken combo with was protein overload for all those meat lovers out there . Coleslaw , bread and pickle to top it all off make it the perfect kosher meal .

Smoked meat sandwich was great. Staff was really friendly too. For solo diners or small groups, there is a takeout store right next to the main store. There’s three tables and a bunch of bar seating for the solo diners. No wait.

Our party of four came to experience this Montreal institution at about 2:30 in the afternoon on a winter Wednesday and were lucky to be seated almost immediately at a table for 6 with two other diners. The tables are very close together. By the time we left there were empty tables. The Montreal smoked meat sandwiches and fries were good with substantial portions. The dill pickles were a disappointment with tough skins and watery inside. Our tablemates had ordered the smoked meat poutine which looked delicious.

It is definitely overrated. I ordered the most famous sandwich and it was salty and dry. Nothing special about it. The place has good marketing and a legacy. Maybe that's why people go there. In reality it is a pretty mid place. Too much meat, small pieces of bread. Too much salt. Very little seasoning.

No trip would be complete without a visit to this historic restaurant. We arrived around 1:30pm and the place was crowded. It was kinda neat that they ask/tell you to sit at a table even with others there. We ordered a couple of smoked meat sandwiches - what else. Lots of tasty meat.
