What guests say about La Buche

La Bûche is highly appreciated for its authentic Quebec cuisine, hearty brunches, and desserts like pouding chômeur. The atmosphere is warm, original, and festive, with the decor often mentioned in reviews as a major highlight. Several customers recommend booking ahead, as the place is often very busy and a bit cramped or noisy. A few reviews also mention high prices and, occasionally, uneven service or wait times.

From the outside this seemed like a tourist trap, but we enjoyed the food, the prices aren't that unreasonable, and the staff were accommodating.

Like a Homemade Meal! We ate at La Bûche family-style and shared everything. We had the deer tartare, poutine, meat pie, pea soup, maple glazed pork loin, and finished with maple syrup pie. It felt like a really, really good homemade meal. I wasn’t sure about the deer tartare going in, but it ended up being my favorite thing. The poutine and pea soup were fine, but I wouldn’t get them again. Everything else was fantastic. I could easily eat there every day and just keep trying things. Not because everything would be my favorite, but because I trust it’s solid ingredients made well. We’ll try to go anytime we visit. The pie was also crazy good.

We had an incredible experience at La Bûche! As first-time visitors to Quebec City, we were a bit overwhelmed by the menu, but our waitress, Calypso, was absolutely wonderful. She was so sweet and took the time to explain the highlights and suggest the best dishes for us. We tried the poutine, the duck wings, and the pudding, and every bite was delicious. Even the mocktails were fantastic! We truly loved the food and the warm hospitality. Calypso made our visit truly special—highly recommend!

We were visiting old Quebec City during a holiday weekend, and we wanted a uniquely Quebecois dining experience, not sure if this fit the bill but we were so glad we found this place! There was a 10 min wait for a table, but that wasn’t all that bad on a very busy Sunday afternoon. We ordered the shepherds pie and foie gras et poor man’s pudding. Both dishes were incredible. The servers were super and we had an all around amazing lunch experience.

The Le Pate de Chinois was awesome! It was crowded so service lagged at one point but to their credit they rallied and acknowledged they got tied up. Can't ask for more than that. Great authentic food and atmosphere.

The pea soup was good and seasoned well, but the consistency wasn’t great. However, the Shepard pie wasn’ great due to the fact that it was not traditionally made. Moreover, the cheese in their poutine wasn’t properly melted which was quite awkward to eat as chunks, highlighting the overly salty gravy. Additionally, some fries were just raw, cut potato that wasn’t fried at all! The meat in the meat pie was good, but the hollow bun was too crispy. The service was okay, a bit of communication struggles as we were predominantly English speakers. Overall, not much to point out other than their lack of food quality.

SO good! The atmosphere was fantastic (the decor, the music)- it all felt very Quebecois. The food and the service were superb. I had the smoked trout crepe and it was delectable. If you’re in Quebec City, do yourself a favor and visit. I’ll be back for sure when I’m lucky enough to be back in that gorgeous city.

This restaurant has amazing service, and a cool Canadian “rustic” vibe. The food was delicious, and plentiful. I’d definitely recommend!

I’m 47 years old and that was the best bacon I’ve ever had in my life. Hats off to the waiter who kindly suggested we try it. Great coffee, food, and atmosphere!

I ate the Quebec shepherds pie and it was sooo good. We came here because our guide recommended it. And it was a good place for dinner. The thing we didn’t like were the volume of the music, it was way to loud and it was hard to have a conversation. I would recommend to make a reservation because it was pretty full.

We had such an amazing experience here. The waiters and staff were extremely friendly. We also found the service to be rapid. I only wished there were more options for non-meat eaters. However, whatever we had was great.

The ambience was nice, with cheerful music, but it was quite noisy. Unfortunately, the food was very disappointing and everything tasted bland. The shepherd’s pie was misleading, as it was just the filling with no actual pie, and the mashed potatoes and corn tasted store bought. I also tried the poutine and it was terrible, with dry, cold fries. Deeply disappointed.
