Praised by many visitors and now I can see why after experiencing it myself. This place is truly a piece of art. The food stands out for preserving the authenticity of Quebec, with the unique touch of maple syrup infused into almost everything. It creates a distinct and memorable flavor you don’t come across often. I genuinely enjoyed my time here and would gladly visit again.
What guests say about La Buche
La Bûche is highly appreciated for its authentic Quebec cuisine, hearty brunches, and desserts like pouding chômeur. The atmosphere is warm, original, and festive, with the decor often mentioned in reviews as a major highlight. Several customers recommend booking ahead, as the place is often very busy and a bit cramped or noisy. A few reviews also mention high prices and, occasionally, uneven service or wait times.

It was wonderful. Best shepherds pie ever. Fruit ketchup is great. Bacon was thick.
Fun spot for a good sized meal!
This was the most welcoming meal we had in Quebec. The staff was very friendly, spoke English to us knowing that I knew too little French. They didn't make me feel bad about it which was very gracious of them. I ordered their gravlax (smoked trout) salad, the pork with mash dish and an order of bread. The apple cider beer was delicious. Not too hoppy or bitter. We devoured both of our dishes. The salad was amazing with fresh cucumber, goat cheese, bacon, tomatoes and plentiful trout. I inhaled it. Fantastic ambiance and tons of things to see at every corner. I can see why it's got great reviews. You don't be disappointed here.
great food. The Tourtiere is wonderful. Super service. Do not forget to bring a marker to write on the wall!
The food was really good. Services was very good. The Quebec shepherds pie was incredibly well balanced on its tastes and textures - when I come back to QC this will be a dish I would eat again Side note the ginger beer had a kick, yum We were seated outside - the outside burners were running so hot I had to move - hence my review of 3 for Atmosphere- broadly if you were inside this would be a problem
We had our Sunday brunch at La Buche. The atmosphere is lively but not loud as the tables are well spread out. The service was attentive and friendly. The food was amazing and plentiful (we took the Big Plate and sides of French toast, crepes and sausage) and was more than enough for two very hungry people! Would highly recommend.
Probably the best dinning Experience I have had in a long time. Incredible service and the food was next level. Comforting but elevated a perfect balance. This is a must when in town
Charming place just off main boardwalk area around the park. Lovely interior with small fireplace (electric no heat from it when we were here). Nice menu choices and good service. Friendly staff and good food. Breakfast was nice and served quickly. Crepes for me with nice fresh berries. Husband eggs and sausage. Good coffee
Decent. Not sure if it lives up to the hype.
We made a dinner reservation after stopping here on our food walking tour. Very creative menu and you can’t beat the atmosphere! It was quite loud during our Saturday afternoon food tour stop. Our Sunday dinner reservation was not loud at all even though they were busy! Would definitely recommend going!
A real Quebec restaurant and sugar camp theme. We will definitely be returning.
Family of four Had the best meal in Quebec evah! Thank you
This place definitely has a nice old style aesthetic, but expect it to be quite loud, and sort of touristy feeling. The bar is quite nice and I actually met some people too, you can see that their kitchen gets quite busy. My server was pretty good, wasn’t left for too long but felt rushed occasionally, but I did meet some nice people at the bar. I got the shepherds pie which was really good, and the corn on it was very buttery and the beef was done very well, quite elevated. However it was quite expensive for what it was, and doesn’t really live up to the Québecois uniqueness hype, very similar to a standards shepherds pie. The dessert was a poor mans pudding however which was amazing and loaded with maple syrup, and something I’ve never had before. Felt quite sick after that but I don’t regret it. So if you come here maybe just get one of the maple based desserts since I feel the mains are very good food, but not worth the price and not all that unique. But the desserts on the other hand are amazing.
The food and atmosphere were both great!! We did feel it was somewhat tourist/overpriced, however. We also wish there was an option for the multi plates for less than 4 people. Would still recommend!
The portions are good, the food is tasty, and the vibes are fun. The restaurant itself is really nice. The staff is super accommodating to children as well :)
A must try in Old Quebec City, especially the pie and the poor man's pudding, I mean just look at them! Atmosphere is also amazing at night, wonderful place to get a Quebec style dinner🔥🔥
Decent food. Great atmosphere.
Great meal. Waitress was very helpful.
I read that this was the best tourtière in the city on about eight websites, and I’d completely agree. This place just has cool vibes, friendly servers, and exquisite washroom decor. Must add to your Quebec City bucket list! Highly recommend.
Came here on a recommendation and would totally come back. Mom and I ordered antipasto de la buche (which includes the salmon and deer tartare) and all the flavors felt like fireworks in my mouth. The best surprise was the poor man’s pudding which was exceptional with the addition of ice cream. Staff was extremely friendly and would recommend this spot to anyone looking to appreciate local cuisine
We had a delicious brunch on the patio on a beautiful, sunny Saturday morning. I recommend making reservations as it’s a busy spot. The Grandma’s omelette had amazing flavour and was perfectly cooked. The cassoulet was very rich but equally tasty. They make excellent mimosas here and the service was superb.
The food, service, ambiance, music were all just phenomenal. The duck confit was amazing as was the foie Gras. Highly recommend this establishment!
If you go to this place , try deer tartar. Really good!
Love it. Noisy so not so nice for slightly deaf people
