Actually delicious. Got the pate chinois and the mashed potato tasted so creamy. Overall a great combination together.

Great place, great experience, staff is so friendly, love thus place
We visited La Buche at 8:00 PM on a packed Thursday night, and I’m so glad we booked online in advance, we were seated almost immediately despite the crowd. The energy in the room was high and vibrant, the decor had so many interesting details, making for a truly memorable atmosphere. We were pleasantly surprised when it was the co-proprietor (Mychael?) personally led us to a beautifully appointed table by the window. Our server was incredibly accommodating and welcoming, which really helped since this was our first time diving into authentic Quebecois cuisine. The food was a gastronomic and cultural revelation. We shared several dishes, and every single one hit the mark: * The Classics: The La Tourtière Facon Buche (duck, pork, beef meat pie) and Onion Soup were hearty and traditional. * The Starters: The Tartare de Cerf (deer tartar) and Croquettes de Pate (meat pie nuggets) offered a great introduction to local flavors. * The Mains: Both the Salmon Dylan Cabane and the Roti de Cochon (pork - so tender) were expertly prepared. While the pricing is on the higher side, the quality of the ingredients and the level of service make it a worthwhile splurge. It’s a fantastic spot if you want a lively, upscale take on French-Canadian comfort food. We haven't tried the other choices and we missed dessert so we definitely have a reason to come back!
Went today for lunch and ordered french onion soup and the steak and eggs. The French onion soup was in the deconstructed style but it didn’t feel like French onion soup - soup in a bowl and bread with cheese on the side. No Gruyère or bread in the soup itself, and most disappointingly the soup was lukewarm. It was not prepared with bread and cheese on top and cooked under broiler, it was simply poured into a cold bowl and served with barely warm bread with cheese no longer melted. Quite disappointing. The bread was nice but the flavour of soup was not well balanced and fell a bit flat, tasted too strongly of red wine. My girlfriend got the steak and eggs which was fine but a small portion on only one slice of bread and the steak seemed to be quite a cheap cut of meat and not very much of it. Also the atmosphere was only okay, the music choice was pretty bad. Floor was also very dirty with food scraps under the table and my butt had food crumbs on it when I stood up. The positives - our waiter was lovely, very friendly and listened to our less than perfect French.
A much go to when you're in Quebec City! Try some Duck wings.
I love the crepes here.
We went this morning for breakfast with our two young children after friends recommended it and unfortunately we had a disappointing experience. Our server Xavier wasn’t personable, and had a bit of an attitude. It seemed as though as soon as he realized we weren’t ordering drinks, his interest in us rapidly declined. Although we were one of the first tables seated in his section, two tables were served before us. A big table of 6, and another 4-top. Harder to wait with two young kids in tow. No one check in to see how the food was until the very end. The hostess Audrey did try and end our experience in a positive way which we appreciated with some maple syrup poured on sticks. The kids really enjoyed this personal touch. The manager checked in with as well. Perhaps if Xavier is annoyed by English speaking tourists and/or serving families he should consider an alternative occupation. For the sake of future patrons and the restaurant we are hoping he was just having an off day. Having been a server/ bartender myself for over a decade, I can appreciate the importance of bringing forth a friendly personalized experience.
Such a fun dinning experience! Good was great and the service was even better!
Very friendly atmosphere.
Tourtiere was excellent. Loved the fruits ketchup.
Food was delicious, but a bit too expensive for what it was. Traditional home cooking does not require such a mark up. Service was exceptional. Overall a great experience.
I had a wonderful experience at this restaurant. The Poutine and The Crêpes with fruits was absolutely delicious, tasted fresh and well prepared. A great spot for satisfying comfort food . Highly recommended!
This is by far one of the restaurants in Quebec. The food is spectacular and the staff are absolutely amazing. The manager Nicolas is absolutely the best.
We had both a wonderful dinner and breakfast here. My wife and son were very happy with the delicious food and the friendly, relaxed atmosphere. The restaurant was quite busy, clearly popular not only with tourists but also with many locals. Highly recommend the onion soup and the foie gras with pouding chômeur — absolutely delicious!
We had a delicious dinner here, definitely on the pricey side - step daughter had the poutine, which at $18 was nothing special but she enjoyed it. Dinner was delicious, and we had an appetizer and two desserts (not pictured) and my husband had a beer.
La Buche is our favorite breakfast place hands down. It is a must every time we visit Quebec. The maple syrup on a stick and maple bacon are our favorite treats. We highly recommend that you check it out.
Everything was great except when they ask if you'd like bread delivered to the table, you will pay for it . It was $10.50 for 3 buns and butter for 3 people. The server asked if we wanted bacon on our shepperds pie and we said "sure" 2 strips of bacon on top cost $8.00. Beware of the up selling!
Obviously a very touristy spot, but I think it's still well worth your time for the very authentic Quebecois ambience, food, and music. We had a great server and we enjoyed the fun and raucous atmosphere. Both the food and drinks were solid and it was one of the better poutines we had between both QC and Montreal. Worth a visit!
Food was great. Service was outstanding. Kids loved the fudge and the carrot cake. Highly recommend if your visiting Quebec.
Awesome spot
All around fantastic experience with excellent service, delightful food at great value, and a unique atmosphere. We will certainly be back! The venison tartar was a favorite, followed by the French onion soup and the croquettes accompanied by the pickles and slaw.
Nice little sugar shack kind of restaurant. The food was delicious and the staff were nice and quick.
We ate at La Bûche on our last night in Quebec City based on a recommendation from our walking tour guide, who told us it was a great place to try traditional Québécois food. We walked in not quite knowing what to expect and were pleasantly surprised by the relaxed, friendly atmosphere. The service was outstanding, and our server, Caladenia, was an absolute delight. She offered thoughtful recommendations based on our interest in trying traditional dishes, and every single one of us loved what we ordered. It was the true definition of comfort food, and the portions were generous. We all would have taken leftovers with us if we hadn’t had an early flight the next morning! All in all, La Bûche gets a 10/10. It was the perfect complement to the fine dining experiences we enjoyed earlier in the week.
Very authentic Canadian food... delicious meal was had..lovely decor and service was outstanding
Our group of 6 had a great and unique dining experience at La Buche in March 2026. We loved the great selection of traditional hearty Quebecois dishes and "lighter" perhaps more modern dishes. They covered the range for all to have a great meal. I especially enjoyed the custom house Bloody Mary that came garnished with celery, shrimp and bacon! As good as the food was, the service and atmosphere were awesome and made it a true event. If visiting Quebec, you must go here!
