This was the first restaurant we visited on our first trip to Quebec City recently, and it didn't disappoint. The poutine was amazing, as were the drinks, and the shareables.
What guests say about La Buche
La Bûche is highly appreciated for its authentic Quebec cuisine, hearty brunches, and desserts like pouding chômeur. The atmosphere is warm, original, and festive, with the decor often mentioned in reviews as a major highlight. Several customers recommend booking ahead, as the place is often very busy and a bit cramped or noisy. A few reviews also mention high prices and, occasionally, uneven service or wait times.
Reviews / Ratings for La Buche
Our hotel recommended this spot, so we decided to give it a try and we’re glad we did! The place has a really warm and lively vibe, and despite how incredibly busy and packed it was, the staff still managed things well. When we first got seated, the music was a little too loud for our liking, which made it hard to hear each other at first, but thankfully it was turned down after a while and became much more enjoyable. The food was delicious, and overall we had a fun and satisfying experience. Definitely a great spot if you’re looking for a lively atmosphere and good food!
There are so many choices of restaurants to choose from in Old Quebec, this evening we decided to try Restaurant La Buche for a traditional Quebec dinner experience. This restaurant is fashioned in a fun sugar shack style barn, the staff are friendly and welcoming and had no issues conversing to us in English. The meal was delicious starting with the chick pea habitant style soup to the excellent tourtiere and finishing off with the pudding du chomeur. You can also leave your mark in the place so brink a marker to right on the wall, and even if you don’t need to use the bathroom it is worth the climb down the stairs. Thoroughly enjoyed this restaurant for the food and experience!
A solid, fun lunch experience. The decoration, ambiance, and music give a quaint, endearing feeling of Quebec. Touristy, yes, but still worth visiting! The "pate chinois" was quite good, and the french toast was tasty but only for extreme sweet lovers (it was a bit much for me). Good service.
Great place, great food. I love their tartares.
Fun bistro with character Eclectic decor and hunter plaid dressed wait staff Very popular with locals and tourists Noise level a bit high but goes well with fiddle music
Seemed like a must visit spot as a tourist in QC. Not a spot I feel the necessity to revisit. Came for the food, stayed for the vibes. Well decorated, felt incredibly Canadian and overall fast and good service. However, food was not particularly standout. We got the poutine and pea soup. Fries in the poutine were particularly brown (over - used oil?) and slightly bitter.
The food was very good, and the venue was beautiful
Food is always delicious, service is impeccable and it feels all cozy and they treat you like family! Love it here!
Great service and meal
You might sneak in without a reservation - but it’s worth making one to be sure you get to experience this.
Food and service was great
Such a lively atmosphere! Loved the constant mimosas... definitely left happy and made friends with the people dining next to us. I definitely recommend a reservation as this place is super busy.
Convivial atmosphere, great food and drink selection, excellent service.
- shepards pie (pate chinois): a refined take onto the quebecois dish. the mashed potato was creamy, the beef was irrefutably soft and tender, the corn was a nice addition bcs it added some creaminess. but i like the fruits ketchup a lot- it added a contrasting sweet and sourness to the otherwise mostly creamy and rich palette. - duck wings: they were hella crispy but while i appreciate the thought, they didnt add any flavour. - crepe quebecois: while very nice, it's just your crepe. - pouding chômeur: leave room for dessert bcs the portion is very big just for one person! the cake was crumbly, buttery and tender and can be eaten just alone. the maple syrup cream along w it is very good too.
Amazing place with great vibe. The tourtiere tasted a little dry and a little too meaty. Loved the shepherd's pie. Recommend getting a reservation.
For Authentic Quebec food - this is the place
I didn't like 2 things: - the porc skin was soaked in maple syrup but it was not specified on the menu. - coffee was bad quality Everything else was good
We had lunch at La Buche on a sunny Saturday in May and it was wonderful! We arrived early for our reservation and enjoyed the decor for a few minutes until we were seated. We were seated on the patio under an umbrella. The service was attentive and the food was yummy with large portions.

Everything was great!
Limited options and somewhat expensive. Service was good.
One of the BEST meals we had in Quebec City. This restaurant is an absolute must go to!! It will be the first one I go to whenever I go back to Quebec City! Everything about it is wonderful: the atmosphere, the service and the food. Merci beaucoup Restaurant La Buche!!
An interesting spot done up to feel like you’re in a sugar shack! Great coffee, good breakfast options (the home fries are incredible) and nice staff make this a great spot for a breakfast
The breakfast was hearty, flavorful, and served in generous portions definitely comfort food at its best. The staff were friendly and welcoming, and the whole experience felt memorable for a first-time visitor like me. I can see why so many travelers highly recommend this place for breakfast and brunch in Quebec City. If you’re visiting Old Quebec, this restaurant is a must-try! 🇨🇦🍁
