Delicious!!! Best foie gras and char we’ve ever had. Beautiful atmosphere. Our waiter Jean-Francois was excellent. Highly recommend.

Great food. Basically French cuisine with a strong local Quebecois influence and some Nordic finesse. I really enjoyed it. The only downside after three delicious courses was that I was so full that all the blood in my body went into my stomach and I almost froze to death on the walk home to my hotel. 😉
One of the best restaurants I have tried. Loved the food, atmosphere!
Had an amazing dinner Sunday afternoon, excellent suggestion by my server with the beef cheeks. Tender, flavorful and did not break the bank. This is on my top list of favorite restaurants in Quebec. Thank You!
The server explained dishes, discussed wine and checked in with surrounding tables, but repeatedly skipped my table. I ended up feeling rushed and excluded. Other staff were kind later, so this seems to be an individual service issue rather than the whole team — however, it unfortunately overshadowed an otherwise lovely day I spent in Québec City.
Loved our brunch here. Perfectly priced, and every bite was amazing. It was a perfect experience for Valentine’s Day!
Cuisine borealis is the claim. Not Nordic, not Canadian, more of a fusion French. Quality of the ingredients were superb. Arctic char, foie, beef cheeks, duck breast and seared full foie were all exceptional. The food leans salty, and could have so much more depth if the salt was scaled back. Please enjoy your food with a healthy glass of water and beer of choice.
I was pretty impressed with this place. Food was very good quality and super local. You could tell the chef was very intentional about combing flavors. Everything we ordered was tasty. Place was a bit loud but it was certainly one of the better restaurants we experienced during our stay.
Amazing food, thoughtfully prepared with knowledgeable service
An amazing meal! We had the flat iron steak and the beef cheek, both were incredible. Outstanding service, perfect amount of attention. A little bit loud, but I guess that’s because it’s busy because it’s so good. Highly recommend!
Went for brunch and had the most delicious trout dish with a sunflower pesto. One of my favorite things I ate on my trip to QC. The meal came with coffee and bread. Service was delightful and the atmosphere was perfect for a nice relaxed brunch. Couldn’t recommend it enough!
The food was delicious, the service was impeccable and the atmosphere was great.
Fantastic restaurant in the heart of the old city! Most likely the best table within the walls! Waiter was informed of our dietary restrictions and helped us navigate the menu and explained every component and details of every dish we chose, it was simply an amazing experience. We had some very good laughs with the waiter, they are all kind and always in a good mood! And once we did receive our food, we were savouring every bite and had our fill with a shared appetizer, each an entré, and each a dessert. Definitely a goto for unique flavours. The seating area is quite large and is busy practically every night of the week, we went on a Thursday evening in the last weeks of January and every seat was taken! We were expecting a little quieter but that comes with the territory with having a fantastic restaurant in the old city. For the quality of dish you get, I don't think you could pay a better price in the old city; definitely recommended to anyone I know passing in the area.
Loved my meal here!! I’m a pescatarian and the waiter was great at helping me navigate the menu. I ordered a crab cake style appetizer and a scallop and vegetable entree and both were incredible. The other photos I added are what my family got and also loved (meaty items). The desserts were excellent as well! Highly recommend!
My family and I (party of 7) had dinner at the restaurant four days ago. Following our server’s recommendation, four of us ordered the braised beef cheek. It was indeed, delicious, EXCEPT my son’s serving. He found it rancid, and with a foul smell. The other three were amazing. We tried his and it did not taste good and did smell bad. We kindly asked our server to smell it, he took it back to the kitchen and promptly returned with “another” piece which had more sauce and tasted equally bad. It seems the chef just put more sauce over the cheek. We asked again our server, he went back to the kitchen, and said the chef told him we had to order something else from the menu. The chef was upset and rude. We decided to just finish our dinner, paid and left. Having said that, if a customer finds his food is rotten or bad, you should be understanding and accepting of this. We asked him to smell it( that is how bad it smelled) and try it. They should have just done a new piece and served it. Not a way to treat a customer. And btw, as I stated before, the other three were amazing. I wish our experience would have been better!
I had a nice meal here on New Year's Day with my family. Everything was very good, but the scallop and sea bass entrees and seabuck thorn meringue were exceptional. The local ingredients and nordic flair set the restaurant apart from others. Cocktails and mocktails were very tasty. Unfortunately, our waiter was not informative or friendly. Quite aloof actually. But we will definitely come back the next time we are in Quebec.
Chez Boulay is a nice option for dining. The pate en croute and carpaccio of char were really good appetizers. My friend was very happy with the onion soup he had. Beef cheek and scallops for the main - très délicieux. However, duck breast and pan seared fois gras - something I would not order again, hence 4 stars. Overall good experience and nice atmosphere.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Amazing experience at Chez Boulay bistro boréal, made truly exceptional by our server Ann-Sophie and Alex. They were warm, incredibly knowledgeable, and attentive without being intrusive. They recommendations and care elevated the entire evening and made the experience unforgettable. Outstanding service like hers is rare. we’ll absolutely be back.
It was good brunch food. Excellent location.
Absolutely everything about Chez Boulay is fabulous. We had the best time, the best service, and the best food. Can Chez Boulay offer customer service training for all other restaurants?!?! 😊 you for a wonderful evening!
Had a New Year's Eve dinner here. The appetizers were amazing, especially the smoked fish. Braised Beef was delicious. However, 2 in our party ordered the steak that came in cold. French onion soup is a must have here, delish!
