Open since 2009 in downtown Magog, the Méchant Steak offers, as its name suggests, several types of grills: steak, filet mignon, scoter, ribs and others. The restaurant is of the "bring your own wine" type, a quality that is much appreciated. We decided to experience it on a Thursday evening in early December with two friends. It should be noted that Magog provides its free public parking lots throughout the month of December.
When we arrived, as several tables were available, we chose the option of leather benches. The square is spacious, the wood, brick and soft lighting providing a warm atmosphere. The fairly spaced tables provide pleasant privacy and the surrounding noise level allows for conversations. It must be said that on this cool evening, the restaurant was not crowded. A few drafts of cold air cooled our legs every time the outer door opened.
Quickly, our waitress explained the menu to us. She pointed out that the accompanying rice and one of the entrees were not exceptionally available that evening, possibly due to a supply problem with a supplier. She also opened the bottle of wine, brought water in a decanter and beer glasses. She then gave us a moment to chat with our friends and have a quiet aperitif.
As our hunger was limited, we focused on the main courses from the start, although the goat cheese croquette and soup as a starter appealed to us. It will be for another time!
Our friends each chose the steak and fries, available for only $ 20 every Thursday evening. The meat on the menu was flank steak, so tender it was easily cut with a fork, accompanied by fries made with homemade potatoes and vegetables.
Nicolas chose braised pork ribs with chipotle barbecue sauce, served with onion rings and house fries. These were under the rib, which he was less appreciative of. However, the sauce portion was generous and the waitress offered to bring her more, which could be very popular with those who love rib sauce. Besides, the pork was tenderly braised, a successful cooking.
Julie chose the nasty filet mignon burger, also served with homemade fries. The eight-ounce meat burger was topped with cheese, bacon, arugula and onions - a pretty classic burger. As the patty was very thick, some parts were undercooked and she had to resect them.
Shortly after serving our meals, a restaurant employee served us cups filled with ketchup and original mayonnaise. It is worth noting that we like when restaurants offer pimped mayonnaise with various flavors such as tarragon, chives and more, which was not offered during our visit.
The desserts all seemed tastier than the next, but we were full and asked for the addition instead.
Finally, we spent a charming evening in this Magog restaurant. The delicious and generously portioned dishes were served by efficient employees who cared about our satisfaction. The fact that it is located in the heart of the city center is obviously a major asset. We will be tempted to return to sample other choices from this steakhouse.
