What guests say about Upstairs Jazz Bar & Grill
A very popular spot for live jazz, with an intimate, warm, and often memorable atmosphere. Reviews often highlight the quality of the musicians, the service, and the food, although some find the place a bit cramped, noisy at times, or more expensive. There are also a few mixed comments about the service, the wait times, and some dishes or cocktails. Ideal if you're mainly looking for an evening of music with dinner, but it's best to reserve and arrive early.

Great atmosphere, music and food. If you want something different from a normal dinner this is the perfect spot.
Hi, I visited upstairs and it was really great jazz bar experience, the music, the band was too fab, I tried a drink and since I went there with urban sketchers so did a quick sketch while I was enjoying the music. If you are in Montreal, I’d recommend visiting this place.
The music was excellent, stayed for 2 sets. The food was equally tasty. Best fish and chips I’ve had in ages. Brownie was top notch!!
Great little music club.
Very reasonable cover for an outstanding performance. Great place to enjoy music. The atmosphere was very nice.
Ensure you reserve a table in advance. Service is not up to the mark, orders were delayed. If you paying upwards of $300 on drinks and food between 2, you expect good service. The Bartender is a rockstar though, may only consider going back coz of him and the music.
Great music, with different prices depending on when you enter. Place has food and drinks that are reasonably priced. FYI Sometimes there are rests between sets, so even if you enter the last song of the second last set, you still have to pay for the second set. The music was excellent.
The burrata was great and so was the jazz!
The music was very entertaining. Young musicians, yery exciting, worth seeing.
Stellar performances, but eat somewhere else first. If you are looking for an intimate, old-school jazz vibe, this is a beautiful spot with tons of character. The local McGill jazz combos we saw were incredibly talented. The cover charge is transparently added directly to your bill. The service at the bar was friendly and the cocktails were well-made. However, the dinner menu fell a bit short. The pasta dish was relatively bland and watery, so I'd recommend coming purely for the music and sticking to casual drinks or an appetizer
The pappardelle was delicious but the fettuccini lacked a bit of seasoning. Ambiance and jazz performances are great!
Fabulous evening. I was there for the second show--Andy Ruval--who is astonishing in his talent and energy.
Love it. Amazing music. Great staff.
Nice little restaurant with live jazz . Band we had that night played amazing music. Food was great. Cozy atmosphere and good very personal service
ALWAYS great service. Great eats. The Maia Prasad Quartet was playing (FANTASTIC!!) and the audience was vibrant, creating a fantastic atmosphere and energy. Thank you, Upstairs!!
Nice spot for live music lovers. The atmosphere is great and it’s usually packed, which adds to the vibe. Really enjoyed the experience overall.
Music was great and the venue was nice and atmospheric. The food was okay, the portions were decent size, and the server was nice

Great place to enjoy an evening with live bands! The crowd was on fire!
Loved this place — excellent music, attentive service, and a great atmosphere overall. No complaints at all, though the space may feel a little tight if you’re claustrophobic.
The food was delicious and distinctive. The music was very enjoyable. We had mid-room seats and could hear and see well. It was very busy on a Tuesday night, they turned people away, so definitely make reservations.
Intimate basement venue for Jazz and Blues. Food and drinks were good The music was amazing.
