Going to this sugar shack feels like navigating an overcrowded airport, except colder. From the moment you arrive, it’s clear that management prioritizes volume over experience, and you end up paying the price for it, literally. At $70 per reservation, which is wildly overpriced in my opinion, you’d expect at least a baseline level of organization. Instead, the venue is massively overbooked, the parking situation is a complete afterthought (be prepared to hike 2 km just to reach the entrance), and despite having a confirmed reservation, we waited over an hour outside in the cold before being seated. By the time we actually started eating, two hours had passed since our reservation time. And to top it off, we ended up at what must have been the draughtiest table in the whole place. Once seated, the ordeal wasn’t over either. Wait times between services were agonizingly long. I heard management was blaming earlier groups for the delays, but having lived through it, it felt much more like the staff simply couldn’t keep up with the sheer number of people they’d let in. The only thing that saved the experience was the service, friendly but clearly overworked and overwhelmed, and the food, which was genuinely good. But good service and decent food can only go so far when the whole operation is this poorly managed. It feels more like a tourist trap than anything close to a traditional sugar shack. If you’re going, dress warmly and clear your afternoon
What guests say about Sucrerie de la Montagne
La Sucrerie de la Montagne is often described as a very traditional, warm, and immersive place, with music, a Quebec-style atmosphere, and charming decor. Many customers enjoyed the food, attentive service, and authentic experience, but others found the portions, quality, or variety inconsistent depending on the time. The main points to watch are the price, which is seen as high, long waits despite a reservation, and an organization that can sometimes be overwhelmed during busy periods.

Went yesterday with my daughters for the sugar shack event. Website clearly states to reserve a slot and be on time. Tickets were for 2pm slot. We waited over well over 1 hour outside before they would leave us in, then waited again indoors as they start assigning us seats. Staff were polite but would not explain the delay. Finally got our tables. The food was average, music was good but volume was over the top and my kids covered their ears for the first 20 minutes until the band took a break. Server was polite and helpful so i can fault her but she admitted that office had triple booked the slot time and many other customers were not happy. Location is pretty but the adult ticket prices were way above average price and did not meet my expectation. Felt like a very expensive cafeteria experience would not recommend.
Most authentic Cabane experience! Loved the atmosphere and food, live music was great. Only thing missing for me was pudding chomeur on the menu. But the hot meal was the best I’ve ever had at a sugar shack in Quebec.
Shocking, absolutely heaving! Had a reservation and huge queue outside and waiting outside with very young babies and disabled people. It doesn't seem to matter when you're reservation is you will have to queue in the cold for at least an hour if not longer. Considering the amazing reviews I am shocked more people aren't complaining about this. Inside is lovely, if you are lucky enough to make it inside!
Made a reservation and waited over an hour outside in the freezing cold.
Sucrerie de la Montagne is a great place to experience a traditional Quebec sugar shack. The setting is beautiful, surrounded by nature, and it really gives you that authentic rustic atmosphere. The food is generous and very good, with all the classic dishes you’d expect. The service was solid and the overall experience was enjoyable, especially for a visit with family or friends. The only downside for me is that I found it a bit on the pricey side for what it is. Still, it’s a nice spot to visit at least once for the experience.
such a nice Sugar Shack, book in advance
Very authentic sugar shack experience would recommend 100% but could maybe use some more vegetation options
Very nice place to have supper with the whole family! For the price you pay, you get a good serving of food with as many refills as you like. The food was good, especially considering how many more people they had to cook for that day. A large variety too, so there's something for everyone! The benches we sat on weren't the most comfortable, as most are, but it all added to the aesthetic of the room. It felt truly Québécoise, even in this day and age. A real blast to the past!
Although, the ambiance, cabins and forest is nice, the food is a 1 star. The eggs were your typical buffet eggs and were not edible. The mashed potatoes tasted like they were from powder. Rest of the food was also tasteless. It's really not worth the 60$. Also the tables are all very closed to each other. So close that your back touches the back of the person behind you if you lean back slightly. Not a big deal but all together not a nice experience. I would not come back or recommend this place to anyone.
Bad all around crowded, long waits, expensive and everything tasted like canned food or frozen.
Great food. I enjoyed our sugar shack experience. Really liked that they did not drench everything in maple syrup, instead you can put the quantity that you want. Decor is cool and place ia lively with band.
Food was disappointing. I’m 99% sure the mashed potatoes were instant powder, the eggs were barely edible, and there were no little maple sausages or oreilles de crisse. That said, the biggest issue isn’t just the food, it’s the price. We paid $280 for four people, which is honestly ridiculous considering what was served. It felt like the total cost of the food on the table couldn’t have been more than $20. At that price point, you expect quality and authenticity. Unfortunately, this felt more like a very expensive, very underwhelming breakfast.
Sucrerie de la Montagne serves the most delicious traditional sugaring-off meals I have ever had. The dining room was filled with lively music, and the musicians were fully engaged with the diners, especially the children. The atmosphere was fantastic, the staff were friendly, and the entire place felt wonderfully authentic. Truly a delightful experience.
Location , service and the dining area were truly typical Québec maple traditional experience
We decided to try this sugar shack after years of going to another place and I can honestly say - this was better. My only complaint is we went at 11AM and I'm still full at 8PM 😂
It was a lovely visit. We got a tour of the place, shown equipments and learned how maple syrup is made in a traditional way. Food was delicious, and we had maple syrup taffy on snow as well. Stefan was an amazing, kind host. It was a very special experience overall.
Very nice location! Very traditional.
