Price is on the higher side but the quality is there.
Reviews / Ratings for Schwartz's Deli
This was my second time trying Schwartz’s Deli, and I’m really glad I gave it another shot. The first time I had it was during a summer street festival, and honestly, it didn’t live up to the hype. But this time, sitting down in the restaurant completely changed the experience. I was able to customize the meat to be on the fattier side (just how I like it), and it absolutely exceeded my expectations. The smoked meat was rich, flavorful, and perfectly done. I also tried the cherry soda, and it seriously blew my taste buds away such a great addition to the meal. What made the experience even better was the service. Our server who I later noticed was all over the walls (maybe the owner?) was incredibly kind, accommodating, and genuine. He really elevated the whole visit and made it 10x better.
Not what it used to be. I first ate there in 1987 when I was a McGill student and have returned every few years. Somehow the aromatics in the smoked meat tasted less prominently than I remember. Just my subjective opinion. Maybe it's time to try Snowden Deli.
The food was pretty good, though the Montreal smoked meat was a bit bland and so we're the fries. The service was great.
Everything was original and authentic! Food was so so so good and Giovani served us with a heart! He made the experience magical. Thank you and we will come back!
Things don’t need to be complicated. Put together a great smoked meat sandwich; serve it with pickles and coleslaw that enhance the experience of chewing through rich, juicy layers of meat; and put the customers at tables within a short glance of a busy open kitchen. It’s a simple but effective formula. Most notably though, it was something Schwartz’s had done a long time ago to put Montréal on the map. This storied reputation is the reason why there are long lines by their entrance during peak lunch hour. Having experienced it now, I believe folks (from wherever) come because they get to experience a part of this city’s heritage through the medium of a meal. It’s literally a museum exhibition that you put in your mouth. I ordered an extra pound of smoked meat for my flight home to share with the wife. Everything held up, and tasted as good as the moment I got my hot serving at the store. This review ends with a simple conclusion: when in Montréal, dine at Schwartz’s.
I visited during winters non rush hours. Classic sandwich was an absolute banger.
Same as before
I came in from Ottawa to pick up at the airport and decided to go for a little side trip, i was able to find a parking spot nearby., a sandwich was great ,staff were friendly, and it was a fun outmosphere
What else is there to say than what has always been said before? Incredible smoked meat sandwich. My wife who doesn't like any sandwich loves the smoked meat. The kids ate all of it and said the 30 minute line they waited in was worth it. Our server suggested their steak was worth trying and it was exceptional with their own blend of seasonings. The fries were the perfect blend of crisp on the outside and potatoey on the inside. This is a true Montreal institution worth stopping at over and over again.
I love this place. The food was obviously amazing but the service was also incredible. Our waiter was so sweet and it was such a friendly vibe all around. The food was also so quick to come out, they literally pump it out seconds after you order it. It’s very cramped but in the best way. It’s so fun and I loved it. The fries were also great and the seasoning they give you to put on is phenomenal. And they give you the whole bottle so you can decide how much you want which is really cool. The pickle wasn’t the best but other than that it was a phenomenal lunch and I would for sure go back if I’m in Montreal again!
Food: poutine and a smoked meat sandwich with a pickle on the side. Absolutely delicious! Service: prompt and friendly. Atmosphere: nostalgic, definitely cramped and busy but didn’t mind it
Our entire family absolutely loved this place! The meat and pickles were the highlights of the meal. We first visited 10 yrs ago, and it’s incredible to see that the food is still just as amazing as we remembered. The staff is also exceptionally friendly and welcoming. Honestly, this restaurant is enough of a reason to visit Montreal all on its own!
Delicious 🤤 Just could you please add at the board Thank you in Ukrainian 🙏 Дякую
If you do one thing in Montreal……YOU MUST COME TO SWARTZ’S DELI AND EAT THE SMOKED BEEF!!!! Best food, super efficient and helpful staff. Fast service and a really fun atmosphere.
The line up out front tells the story. Its worth getting in line to grab a classic smoked meat sandwich. The line is organized and moves really quickly as they dont let any seats go unfilled. The sandwiches are juicy and the meat melts in your mouth. Give the pickles a try. Massive and tangy. Definitely a must try if you lije delicious meat!
Great Group must stop place, be patient it's worth the wait
It was a cold day and we had to wait outside for a bit. Staff was friendly and once we got seated and ordered everything came quick. For sandwiches, poutine and the giant pickles and everything was delicious! Worth the wait.
Went to Schwartz’s small space next door to the main location. Food was good and portions were large. Atmosphere was less inviting in the annex but the service was acceptable. It’s a Montreal institution so worth a try.
The cashier acted like tipping was mandatory. She said it wasn’t included, and I was like… okay, and? Tip for what—just doing their job? Food is good, but it’s overpriced for what you actually get. The place is dirty, outdated, and clearly hasn’t been maintained in a long time.
Recommended to us and wow was the smoke meat amazing! So good we ordered an extra plate of it. Delicious!
Schwartz always has a place in my heart as my mom (who is no longer with us) grew up a couple blocks away. In the summers we would come to Montreal when I was a kid to visit her family and it would always include a trip to Schwartz. This was my first time coming to the restaurant as an adult and it was just as good as I remembered it. I sat at the counter and my food was ready immediately. I ordered the smoked meat sandwich (medium cut) and it had a great ratio of fat to give it that flavour. The sandwich with fries and a cherry coke came out to about $29 after tax. A bit pricey but pretty comparable with other delis for a smoked meat sandwich. They also have a takeout shop next door if you're not looking to dine in. Thanks for the great trip down memory lane!
Best sandwich in Montreal, just go and ask for a sandwich (smoked beef); you have the option to request it lean (more on the dry side but still very good if you’re trying care of the calories)
Classic, wont dissapoint
Just the best place for a Smoked Meat Sandwhich. I’d go as far as to say best in North America as I’ve never found anything comparable elsewhere.
