Celebrate my 40th Birthday this weekend with my sisters and mom and dinner was splendid! The food was truly delicious and the presentation so visually memorable we’ll be talking about it for ages! The portion sizes are also very good especially the shared plates. A lot of places with several course menus it’s the itty bitty portions and bites. This was a nice mix of solid portions and tasty bites to keep your palate excited! The only negatives I will say are the service seemed a little disjointed. The moment we sat down we were give some delicious amuse-bouches, the service was quick and on-point, however we didn’t seem to have a small fork to pick up the little tasters presented to us so we were expected to use our fingers which I found a little od (they only had a little knife and large spoon on the table). Some of the plates we were given very clear instructions to wait until they brought other elements to complete it etc, and then others they left on the table and we were confused if we were to wait or serve ourselves. It was a bit confusing also because they didn’t leave any cutlery to serve the shared meals. Once we stopped ordering alcohol the service then really diminished which is always someone that I don’t really appreciate a customer. We had each had 2 glasses of wine each, which I think is very reasonable and fair, but it didn’t seem that way to them. The other thing was a little something special was supposed to be done in recognition of the birthday and they confirmed that 3 or more times and it never happened. That said, super AMAZING experience, but I will agree with some of the other reviews that they lean on their Michelin star.
Reviews / Ratings for Restaurant Jérôme Ferrer - Europea
Where do I begin. Eating many of the dishes was a hassle. Reaching around tree branches like I'm Tarzan, cutting and dividing things up ourselves. I see you're going for "the experience" and I'd be okay with that as long as "the taste" was also spectacular and it wasn't for the most part. The good: the lobster bisque, the lobster tail, and the brioche. These three are the only reason why this isn't a 1 star. They were the only moments where I and the rest of the table were truly satisfied. Food presentation was decent as well (only what was in the regular plates, not the other stuff hanging off branches and clothes lines and such). Now as for why it's not a 5 star: - The sourdough breads, cold, stale, tough and rubbery. Maybe fresh out the oven it'd be nice but the staff had to put his whole body into cutting this loaf like a dentist pulling out a wisdom tooth. The brioche overshadowed these other breads incredibly so. - The venison main course - (oh, deer) had great presentation but taste was beyond disappointing. What did this poor deer do to deserve this fate? Flavorless spongy small bites of meat in a one-note sauce and more foam. Speaking of foam, why is there so much foam in these dishes? I've never seen this much foam even at the base of Niagara Falls. I'm 80% air now after this meal. - Overly sweet, one-note desserts, again disappointing. The apple looked great but tasted like mushy baby food inside. - Most of the crispy little tart bites, forgettable - the oysters were so overly decorated I was eating it for quite a while until I realized I hadn't eaten the oyster itself underneath At the end of the day, taste is above all. You can have creativity, theatrics, and wildly varied ingredients but simplifying things down a bit and focusing on quality would help a lot here. I would like every dish to blow my mind. And I don't mean that every dish has to be the most flavorful, rich, intense thing. I've had subtle dishes at other restaurants that have been incredible. I encourage you to thoroughly test this out in the kitchen when devising these dishes. Have these dishes each individually blown your minds somehow? Also, why is the entire city of Montreal in this restaurant? No wonder the staff seemed overworked. The various dish arrangements and gadgets and incredients combined with how many people they have to coordinate and serve at any given time seems like a recipe for disaster. Some tables were extremely loud. Again, simplicity. Fewer people, better ambiance, simpler, more delicious menu.
Pretentious and overrated. Food was average for a Michelin 1 star. The decor is very basic, nothing special. The service felt uncomfortable and off-putting. One server was breathing very heavily throughout, and he came across as cold and not very genuine. He was also coughing frequently, not covering mouth, which raised concerns about whether he should have been working that day ... It made the experience less enjoyable.
I had a fantastic experience here. It was my birthday and I did the tasting menu. They made sure my wine pairing glasses were well topped up for my birthday and the staff was very friendly and even gave me a birthday treat at the end that wasn't on the menu. The tasting menu was such an experience. The flavors, colors, textures. It was incredible. 10/10 worth it. At the end they let me into the kitchen to show me how things were done. I have nothing but good things to say about all the kitchen and restaurant staff, and the food!
Insanely overpriced. It feels like a restaurant trying its best 2+ Michelin star impression. Everything feels stale and impersonal.
Been here a couple of times.. the food and the service never disappoints…It is my favourite restaurant in Montreal and I was very happy they got a Michelin star… they truly deserve it… Staff is great Food is amazing Atmosphere is top notch… Menu changes but the lobster cappuccino is always there and it is delightful to have it. The whole staff is doing an amazing job.
An absolutely incredible French fine dining experience! The 10-course Signature Menu was exquisite, each dish thoughtfully layered with the chef's storytelling. Service at a Michelin starred restaurant can sometimes feel overly formal or distant, but here it was warm, attentive, and genuinely engaging. The complexity of the menu could have easily felt overwhelming, but the team did an excellent job presenting each dish in a way that felt meaningful and memorable. A special thanks to Enzo, Guillaume, Renyali, Michel, and another team member whose name we didn't catch (he cut the bread for us)! I hope they get a recognition.
Overall, the meal was a whole experience, and I’m glad I had it. 90% of what I ate was excellent, 90% of the service was fantastic and top notch Upsides: fun, creative, and flavorful small bites. I loved trying so many flavors and textures. And the interior was beautiful. Staff were mostly attentive and professional Downsides: one of the dishes was missing a main ingredient. When I asked about it, I got two different stories, and neither was genuinely true. Disappointed in how their mistake was handled. Some of the dishes were chipped. The column I was sat next to was covered in dust and dirt. And a device they used as part of an immersive experience was malfunctioning, with nothing done to fix or make up for the experience. Several lapses in attentiveness of the servers, particularly at the end when other tables who finished after me got their checks before me Overall, I’m glad I had the experience. For the price point, I expected them to be more on their game and attentive to the details
We came a group of 10 and had the 10 course menu. It was about 4 hour dining experience. Each dish though very tiny in size is packed with big flavours.i liked the concept of having a story and theme. I personally don’t eat shellfish or pork and the restaurant was very accommodating. We went on a Wednesday and getting our drink orders was very slow. But everything else was good.
My partner and I have been to a few Michelin Star restaurants, but have never been so immersed in our food experience as we were at J.Ferrer (VR goggles, kitchen tour, attentive staff). We had the 10 course experience - a must. The only thing that could have gone better is being told of the extra champagne cost for our starting beverage and our table being wiped between courses.
An experience. Presentation was next to none. Fanrastic service and the food journey was beyond what we expected.
Went there for my birthday and I got to see my boyfriend receiving calls from them days prior, the person on the phone was terrible, it seemed that she was not interested at all in making clear what the difference between the menus is, when asked for an explanation she replied with “it’s just completely different” which made us opt for the birthday menu which had been previously explained to us. At the restaurant the service was good, it was all French young men that were very courteous and polite, they explained every dish correctly in English which I appreciated. As for the food, some of the dishes are good but it’s not something that I’ll remember in the future, funnily enough what I enjoyed the most was the lobster butter, which is meant to be eaten just with bread. For a Michelin star restaurant it was pretty average but the cherry on the cake was that even though my boyfriend had specified that it was my birthday, since THEY called to change the hour of the reservation they forgot to add the information and I didn’t get the birthday dessert, when we made them notice the mistake they didn’t care much and just managed to ask “would you like it now?” While we were paying. I wouldn’t normally care for a cake but for an over $350 dinner feels pretty sucky.
Thank you for marking a special occasion so memorable!
The dinner felt like someone asked ChatGPT what Michelin star restaurants do and then they did all of them - a note welcoming you (but very generic); a visit to the kitchen (but it’s exactly what you see from your seat); endless little bits to start (but stale and flavorless); a video to watch in a headset (but had no real connection nor explanation); a note thanking you for coming (but again very generic). In summary, a very gimmicky experience. Every course had some kind of gimmick associated with it - but the food fell entirely flat lacking flavor and seasoning. The experience lacked substance. Service was ok, but we had to constantly ask for water refills.
A gastronomical delight from beginning to end, with a passionate team eager to share their knowledge of food and wine, elevating the entire experience. Each course felt thoughtfully distinct—creative in composition, yet grounded in exceptional quality ingredients. What truly set the evening apart was the generosity of the team, welcoming us into the kitchen to gain a deeper appreciation for the care, precision, and dedication behind every plate. Ten beautifully executed courses paired with excellent wines made for a seamless and memorable progression—take the time to savour this experience, as it is one worth lingering over.
I visited Restaurant Jérôme Ferrer – Europea during my recent trip to Montreal came here for dinner meal, mainly because it holds a Michelin star and I was curious to see how it compares. Having dined at all the Michelin-starred restaurants in Toronto, I came in with fairly high expectations. Overall, Europea did a great job when it comes to service and presentation. The dining experience feels very theatrical, with creative and interactive ways of serving dishes that definitely make the meal memorable. The staff were attentive, professional, and clearly put effort into creating a unique atmosphere. That said, the food itself didn’t quite meet my expectations. While the presentation was impressive, I found many of the flavors to be overly heavy and not as refined or refreshing as I had hoped. Some dishes leaned too rich, which made it harder to fully enjoy the progression of the tasting menu. There was also a small but notable hiccup with the experience. We had made a special note that the dinner was for an anniversary, but it was mistakenly celebrated as a birthday instead. It didn’t ruin the evening, but it did take away from what was meant to be a more personal touch.
For the price you pay, it is just okay. I understand 8 courses can take some time, but man was the pacing slow! We sat down at 8 and didn't leave until after 11:30! They also completely forgot our 2nd course 😞 *we asked for it, and they eventually brought it in between the 3rd and 4th courses* I think the waiter was either overwhelmed or cared more about the VIP table next to us. Another waiter started taking care of us after those guests sat down and we hardly saw our original server the rest of the evening. I was excited to dine here and honestly left a little disappointed.
Dining at Europea was great! We had the 12 courses tasting menu & we enjoyed it. From local products to creative presentations, it was good. My highlights are the brioche bread, poached lobster & maple cotton candy. Thank you for the service & amazing evening!
Got to this restaurant because it was a birthday, but didn’t get anything special, despite we told the waiter about it. Overall experience was ok. Maybe because I visit too many high end restaurants, and this one just happen to miss the mark. Pretty expensive for what it’s. Portions were not great for the price. Which is normal since you are in downtown paying crazy rent. So yea, the restaurant needs to make a profit but rent takes a lot in the expenses. So the experience :We were probably assigned to a new waiter, since he wasn’t sure what he is saying, the girl who help clean up at least knew alittle bit more about her job. After I got out of the restaurant I acknowledged it was a Michelin star! Wow how did this restaurant get a star? Well probably the judges should really just stick to reviewing their Michelin tires at this point, I remembered hearing alot of chefs talking about Michelins ratings as a joke and a way to boost tourism. I guess I understand now. Well if you got money to spare and don’t mind helping economy I invite you to come by and help them out :)
Hi my only disappointment is not being explained properly about the wine pairing how much it would cost for 1 person and the size served for kobe beef vs other tables but all in all 5 star experience
It was an incredibly unique dining experience, filled with thoughtful touches throughout the evening. We were surprised and delighted on many occasions, which made the night truly unforgettable. What I appreciated most was how knowledgeable the servers and sommelier were when presenting each dish and wine pairing. Their passion for what they do was very clear. We also loved being invited into the kitchen to see the action up close. Thank you for such a wonderful evening, we will certainly be back.
The evening started well with champagne, but service quickly became confusing. Multiple waiters repeatedly asked about still or sparkling water, yet it only arrived after the first course. We were never introduced to the drink pairing or offered a beverage menu and had to ask for it ourselves, with cocktails arriving several courses late. The staff were polite but seemed stressed, and the pacing felt inconsistent — rushed at times, then forgotten. A decorative tree branch placed in the middle of the table looked nice but was impractical and didn’t add much to the experience. Food was overall okay. Seafood dishes stood out, but the menu felt overly heavy and lacked cohesion. Serving Kobe beef with butter sauce felt excessive given how rich the meat already is, and the sea lion course was particularly puzzling. The apple dessert was bland compared to earlier courses. Overall, an experience with good moments but lacking balance and refinement for this level.
Went for lunch and it was a great experience. The menu did not change at all since this summer though, so I think it is nice to experience, but it doesn’t offer much variety if you come multiple times. Had lunch 3 times in 3 different months and all 3 times it was the same menu. Great food, beautiful presentation, would love to try it for dinner too, I am sure it is a completely different experience!
We went for a special occasion, and left extremely disappointed. Trusting that the restaurant was a Michelin, it was extremely unprofessional and unusual to see the food and service was anything but. It felt like our waiter was in a constant rush, feeling very irritated and hostile towards us- especially since we did not speak the local french language. The food was not was not up to a Michelin star restaurant; it was bland, basic, and ultimately left us all feeling blatantly ill and sick once we left. Very heavy palate and just repetition of the same foods in different dishes, while trying to make it fancy. ! Wouldn’t recommend this restaurant to anyone and definitely do not believe it should be labelled under a Michelin.
This was a complete experience and I have nothing but praise for the institution. Total 5/5 Can’t wait to come back when they become 2 Michelin Star place
