Food was terrible. Was not Mexican food. Way over priced and service was very slow. Got there at 6:30 pm and got the main dish at 8:30pm. Seriously the food was really bad. Don’t order the churros because it comes with cheap fake chocolate. Do not recommend this place.
Expensive for the amount and quality of food you get. The service was rushed, we had no time in between the entree and main. The music was very loud (we felt more like being in a bar) and there was an overpowering candle smell or encens…Overall, the food tasted good, but it is not a place that I would go back to. Finally, we were disappointed because we went there to have a tasting menu and it was a false advertisement on the RoyalMount site (see picture). They told us it was only for group…
Overpriced rushed to eat. Tiny menu not much Mexican steak 68$ ordinary balam argarita 48 for two just ok too bad as restaurant us beautiful ❤️
Great food. Excellent vibe. Service was a little lacking, but great!
Great music and great food !!!
This will be a long review, but I hope it’s taken as constructive feedback. It’s not just about the food; service plays a major role in the overall experience. I want to start by saying the food was good. I would have considered coming back for it. However, because of the overall experience, I won’t. We chose this restaurant for a birthday celebration. The décor is beautiful, cozy, clean, and exactly the upscale Mexican vibe we were looking for. We had reserved for 15 people but ended up being 16, our mistake, and an additional table had to be added. This was done before any orders were taken, and no one changed seats during service. Throughout the evening, there were several service issues beyond timing and billing. Drinks were accidentally spilled on members of our table, and at one point a drink was knocked over by management. They did replace them, which we appreciated, but it contributed to the overall disorganization of the night. Meals did not arrive together. Some sides were served long before the mains. Mocktails were delayed. Billing was extremely disorganized, and it took nearly an hour to correct multiple incorrect receipts. After all of this, as we were finally preparing to leave, the manager approached our table and loudly stated that a Gigot d’agneau had not been paid for. He referenced us having “changed seats,” implying that this caused the billing confusion. As mentioned earlier, the additional table had been added before any orders were taken, and no one moved during service. At that point, after the cumulative issues of the evening, his accusatory tone was the final straw for me. I reacted strongly and raised my voice. I could have remained calmer, but being spoken to in a way that questioned our honesty after everything that had happened made the situation escalate. It’s important to mention that the manager was also yelling during this exchange. Following the argument, I offered to pay for the “missing” dish to resolve the situation immediately. The manager declined and said it was not necessary. Mistakes happen, especially with large groups. We were patient for most of the evening. However, professionalism and communication matter just as much as food quality. The situation could have been handled calmly and discreetly instead of escalating publicly. If accommodating large groups is difficult, that is understandable, but it may be better not to accept them. I hope this feedback helps improve future guest experiences.
Outstanding service with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Jaime, the manager, and Abdela, our waiter, were amazing - friendly, attentive, and great to talk to. The entire staff was wonderful, the ambiance was fantastic, and the food was absolutely delicious. An excellent experience all around!
AVOID AT ALL COST!!!! Explanation below Valentines day was the WORST!!! Slow service we got there at 9:30 and had to ask the waiter repetitively after over an hour wait to just get the Guac and chips starters that shoulce been served moments after we placed our order…the main appetizer came around after 2 hours wait nearly 11pm and we got our main course at 12AM how is that normal?!?? The staff were paying more attention to people who came in larger groups or had more money to spend and were neglecting half the dining room!! SOO many people left the restaurant because of the wait time that made NO SENSE it wasn’t even that crazy packed!! I’ve been to restaurants with double even triple the amount of people and the service was impeccable The food portions were soooooo small!! The octopus was soo pitiful barely 2 small tentacles and it was smaller than the appetizers!!! My wife had it in 2 bites and it made no sense No way they ruined such a nice day for me and my wife we left the place hungry, unsatisfied and just overall disappointed!! This is not the standard of a restaurant in a luxury mall area Avoid at all cost unless you want to throw money in the water…utterly disastrous
Extremely slow service, small portions and food did not taste good especially for what you’re paying.
Portions are small for the price they charge. Food is average. Nice looking place. Service was under average, waiters not really paying attention their customers. Left the place hungry.
Saint Valentin : Slow service and ran out of the main option (tacos) on a mandatory preset menu with only 3 options. I had never seen this.
Very bad experience. Waited over 2 hours to get main course which was ridiculously small (smaller than appetizers), churros were plain without any sugar
Horrible experience. As new parents who have not been out together for quite some time, we decided to celebrate Valentine's Day at Balam. There was a set menu with 3 options for Main course. Upon arrival and being seated we were advised that one of the main course options was not available. It so happened to be the only meat protein option on the menu. When we asked for a substitute of any kind we were advised that it would not be possible for them to make any substitution and we had to choose between the vegetarian option or the seafood. Although we were compensated with free cocktails it was very disappointing to eat something we dont even like. Moreover it took a very long time to receive our meal. When we did receive our meal, the octopus, it was one tentacle (a very small tentacle), per plate. Hardly a main course. The appetizer was larger. Overall this was an extremely disappointing experience with very little compassion from the manager for their shortcomings. We stopped at Harvey's on the way home as we were still starving.
Great time at Balam! Food was great! We definitely recommend the melted cheese and tuna crudo to start! Tacos were excellent too!! Will be back when it’s terrace season!
Amazing location, Beautiful restaurant. Mexican cuisine at a different level with great drinks and a nice selection of fine Tequila. Great attention to service and food is extremely tasty. Will be going back, Grazia Balam
Good vibe, good food, good service and they have a great Selection of tequila and Mezcal
I never got to eat,,, when I arrived they told me the cuisine was out because of a gas problem. They told me he think i book late but i booked close to 3 hours before and the cuisine was out, 45 min before we got there. They should’ve send a message or something because it was my birthday and there was no more reservations on others
I’ve had nothing but great experiences here. The food is authentic and full of flavor, the atmosphere is warm and welcoming, and the service has always been attentive and professional. It’s a beautiful Mexican restaurant with a great vibe definitely worth visiting.
Drinks: 20/10 Food: 9/10 Vibe: 9.5/10 Loved it! Don’t go there expecting typical, authentic Mexican food, it’s more of an upscale, modern twist. Pricey, but worth it! Service was great as well.
Really enjoyed the atmosphere! Food was delicious and fresh would definitely recommend this restaurant!!
Located next to one of Montreal’s best malls, Balam offers amazing cocktails and delicious food. I visited on a Saturday night and it was completely packed. Great DJ, and beautiful Tulum-inspired decor that really sets the vibe. Thanks Stacy for the great service!
Very nice looking place. Good music but a little loud. You can't have a conversation. Food is ok but very over priced. I've had better but it's still good.
Delicious food, quality ingredients, calm
Amazing....the ribeye tacos came with a roasted bone marrow boat :)
