The owner is extremely attentive and from what I can see, runs a tight ship. He also hires quality staff because I see how they operate naturally, at ease, but with equal attention to detail. The food is nothing short of spectacular. I suspect anything on the menu will be impressive. I ate here twice during my stay and I know this will be the first place I return to the next time I'm in Montréal. It simply shines in every regard.
What guests say about Modavie
Modavie is often appreciated for its warm atmosphere, live jazz, and elegant decor, especially for a romantic dinner or an evening with friends. Many customers praise the quality of the French cuisine and dishes like duck, seafood, tartares, and desserts, as well as the attentive and welcoming service. That said, some reviews mention high prices, inconsistent service, and noise when the dining room is full or the music is loud. If you're looking for a lively experience with good food and music, it's worth a visit, but it's best to make a reservation and expect an energetic atmosphere.

really nice lunch special- i got the escargot and the sea bream fish of the day- so good. My son got the steak frites and it was excellent.
We came here 3 years ago as a local recommended Modavie for their french onion soup that I was so hungry for. It was a great exprience then. We found ourselves back in Montreal and there was no quesion where we wanted to go for our nice meal. Everything was superb! The lamb chops were exceptional!! Service was quick but not rushed. Our server, Patrice, was amazing as well and very well, but not overly attentive. Looking forward to coming back again!
One of the best restaurants if not THE best in Montreal. Which is saying a lot. Incredible people, incredible environment. Tres Bien. I recommend getting a reservation as it fills up quickly.
The food was excellent and the live music was so fun! I had the escargot and it was the best I’ve ever had.
Amazing food, wine and service. The staff is outstanding, and Lorenzo is friendly and funny.
Food at Modavie is just mediocre, definitely nothing special or above the rest and should be priced accordingly, it's pricey for the quality that you get. Atmosphere is nice, it is a nice place to dine in, and service is also very good. Bottom line is the food is nothing special whatsoever, so I wouldn't recommend this restaurant, there are far better options in Old Montreal.
We walked in and were greeted by Lorenzo. I call him out because he was very welcoming and quite funny (and not in a smarmy kind of way). The service from the other staff was very good as well. Food was excellent. Lunch price for the tasting menu was very reasonable. We had a nice table by the window. Highly recommended.
The duck confit was great! Deceptive portion - it looks small, but it is really filling. Our server was really nice too. The live Jazz band was a nice touch.
Excellent experience, server was knowledgeable and friendly. We tried a number of things on the menu, mussels, snails, salmon tartar... All were incredible!
A good spot in Old Montreal. They have great calamari and the steak was perfectly cooked and the pasta gnocchi was great! The service was excellent.
Wonderful restaurant with live music and serving classic French cuisine. Great atmosphere on second floor. Was given a fantastic table close to live music performance. Attendant was ok, nothing extraordinary but provided decent polite service. Food was quite good, especially the onion soup which was not salty and seasoned perfectly with savory and sweetness balanced nicely with hint of wine flavourful in the broth. Rack of lamb was cooked to perfection however the rack portion could have been better cut up and presented though, it was a tad lazy to serve up two giant racks with other rack bones partial in together, when compare to others having same dish at other tables. Scallops were cooked right but sauce was too salty for my preference. Salad was amazingly fresh and crisp. Overall good food good vibe good value.
I got mussels and fries, loved it!
I went into this dining experience extremely skeptical. this restaurant has a reputation for being extremely touristy and as a local I prefer nicher spots. My mind changed. This was one of my best dining experiences ever. The service is fast, the staff is polite and most importantly, the food is extremely delicious. I was completely blown away by how great this restaurant is and I recommend anyone visiting Montreal or anybody who loves here to come at least once. Also, the cocktails are amazing, I highly recommend the Mirage. Also also, the best crème brûlée I’ve ever had. The live music was also a plus.
I have not had seafood *this good* in years! The food was fanrastic, the service was extremely pleasant and the live, light jazz was a perfect atmospheric touch. I *very enthusiaticallt* recommend Modavie!
Excellent service and food delicious. Enjoyed the varied vegetables too. Cesar salad, onion soup, steak, lamb chops and grilled lamb. Had two times each lunch and another day dinner in 4 days Montreal visit. Italian wine. Food Delicious. Service warm friendly !
The Sunday Brunch with the live jazz was a great way to start Sunday. The food and the cocktails were outstanding.
Delicious food, excellent service, lovey atmosphere.
Great spot for a meal and cocktail. Safe for gluten free people.
Foods nice and taste.
While exploring the Old Town we decided to stop at Modavie for a quick bite as well as some wine. Lorenzo and his team were absolutely welcoming, from the minute we arrived their hospitality was top notch, from recommendations to checking in on us through out our meal. If you want great food and old world service, i'd highly recommend making this a must stop while in Montreal. I've only ever experiene this level of service via Michelin dinning.....will definitely stop again during our stay. Thanks for a wonderful afternoon!
my boyfriend and I went here tonight for his birthday and the food was AMAZING! the rack of lamb and the potatoes it comes with were 10/10. our waitress was so nice and gave amazing recommendations. will definitely be back
Food was good. Atmosphere was nice and Dimitri & Lorenzo were attentive and fun!
Loved the live music and every single thing we ordered was delicious! They had lots of options for gluten allergies, in particular the poutine with lamb was a highlight. I also really appreciated the mayo and ketchup coming with the fries.
Fantastic food experience! A great heartwarming food, room and overall lunch experience.
