I went here with my friends this past weekend. The food was pretty good and smoothie was definitely worth the price. However, it seemingly took almost an entire morning to get the food. It took a while for them to take our order, I would say 15 minutes. Another 15 to 20 to actually get the beverages. I finished my entire pint glass of smoothie (and then some)which I was sipping on slowly before we even got the food. I would say total maybe 45-60 minutes to get food. When we got the food all three of my friends had their food and it took mine an additional 10 minutes to come out. By that time my food was lukewarm, starting to get cold. They gave me the wrong side dish which took another ten minutes to sort out. Even though the food wasn’t hot it was decent, the side of mushrooms was excellent and warm. After finishing up it took even more time for the check to come out (15-20 minutes). We went there for breakfast and ended up getting out at lunch. Felt like we spent the whole morning there because essentially we did. The worst and most egregious part, a friend of mine went to the bathroom and came out at the same time as one of the staff (unisex bathroom) and as soon as he came out he went right to the kitchen without washing his hands. This stall did not have a sink by the way. He appeared to be kitchen staff as he was wearing an apron. Really the last thing you want to see after you just ate. Waiting all morning for almost cold food was extremely annoying and I question the sanitation practices or enforcement.
Reviews / Ratings for Le Passé Composé (Vieux-Montréal)
Bad and slow service, and incredibly pricey in a way that isn't represented in the dishes or experience. Not sure they had enough servers working. Didn't get menus for 15 mins after being sat for a reservation, didn't get drinks until after food was brought out. Food came out and sat for 10 mins while we waited for cutlery and napkins to eat with. We watched a dog get sat outside and given a bowl of water before we got our drinks. Two stars for the French toast and sides, the duck confit with marrow was way too rich and imbalanced. French toast was heavy and greasy but tasted good, with fruit to balance heaviness, nothing special. Wouldn't go back, wouldn't recommend. Best part of our visit was the playlist. A note for tea drinkers - they don't have a way for you to pour all your tea at once when steeped. so any cup beyond your first will be bitter as there's no way to remove the loose leaves they give for the tea. The leaves arent also fully filtered so you will get leaves in your cup.
Great food and great ambiance very delicious meals
My girlfriend and I heard many great things about Passé Composé so we were very excited to come try this place out. Overall, the vibes were great (we were seated outside on the patio) and the service was friendly but a bit slow. We ordered the Smoked Salmon Waffle and the Passé Composé Bagel with a side of fries. The waffle came with a healthy portion of spinach that was cooked well in the garlic butter, but perhaps a bit too much for the amount of smoke salmon that came with it. The waffle was great to absorb all the Hollandaise sauce and the yolk from the duck egg, but did not add any extra flavour or texture to the dish. The bagel was solid but did not exceed expectations. The jalapeño and lime yoghurt elevated the flavour of the salmon but the bagel was a bit bland otherwise. The crispness of fried avocados added to the texture profile though. Overall, we had a good brunch but it was not worth the price.
I went for Mother’s Day and the service was so bad I certainly won’t go back. The space itself is nice but some of the seating is really inconvenient (they seat people without any consideration if they are elderly or children who need more space). I had made a reservation ahead. The food took a long time to come despite it not being that busy. The coffee (a cappuchino) was not drinkable but I didn’t complain about it. They then brought in old fries that were cold without our mains. Again I didn’t complain and just put them aside as it wasn’t eatable. They then brought the mains a while layer which were good (cod burger and bagel) . They sent an additional fry which wasn’t old “from the chef” who I guess realized he sent us old cold food. I had asked for a side of avocado, just avocado for my baby to have (shocking request for a brunch…) that caused quite an issue. The manager came with some fried foods and was very rude and abrasive as if I had done something wrong for asking for avocado and I explained I had specifically just asked for a side for my baby to have. Allegedly there was no avocado or fresh fruit without seasoning for my baby. I asked for the Check so i could leave. I had also asked for a piece of toast which was brought only once every dish was finished and we had already asked for the Check. The service was dreadful and the manager in front of us was saying she would speak to the waiter who dared say they had avocado in the kitchen. Whole thing was very weird. I think it’s a decent Space if you are 20 yo woman who want to brunch with a girlfriend but if you need or expect any quality service or help picking a dish… skip it. And make sure you don’t ask for a side of avocado!
Absolutely loved my experience at Le Passé Composé. The atmosphere is warm and charming, perfect for a relaxed brunch or a cozy meal. The food was beautifully presented and full of flavor—everything felt fresh and thoughtfully prepared. The staff were friendly and attentive without being overwhelming. Definitely one of those places you keep thinking about after you leave. I’ll be coming back for sure.
Food was delicious, service was a little disorganized and the tables were crammed together, we couldn't get in or out of seats easily.
Honnestly this place was very disappointing. The restaurant itself is beautiful but the food is trying to hard to be elevated dinning and it is not working out. I ordered the roasted beef sirloin poached egg, the plate lacked taste and texture it was essentially just mush with a 35$ price tag.
A true “French” experience (and not in a good way), inattentive waitresses who barely come to your table. The chairs were also unclean, with hair on them. Our waitress even spilled water on the table and never came back to clean it; we waited a good 10 minutes before asking another waiter to take care of it. The food was good, but not worth the price definitely. It also took more than 30 minutes for our food to arrive. They used to be located in the another part pf Old Port about four years ago, and it was genuinely amazing back then. Now, it feels like they’re just carrying the name.
Beautiful and delicious spot in Montreal. The food was absolutely delicious with generous portions, the service was great with a welcoming and friendly atmosphere.
Nice restaurant with good food. The service was a bit slow, but it’s understandable since they were busy. If you’re not in a rush and want to enjoy time chatting with friends, it’s a great spot. The menu is a bit limited though, so it’s worth checking it beforehand.
I really enjoyed my brunch there; everything was excellent from the food to the service. You can tell there’s real attention to detail in every plate, fresh ingredients, beautiful presentation, and flavors that stand out without being overdone. Eggs Benedict were perfectly executed, and the bone marrow was rich, bold, and definitely a highlight. The atmosphere is cozy yet refined, and the service is attentive and knowledgeable, which really completes the experience
Food was good but there are definitely other places that offer better value for what you are paying... Great location and atmosphere but not sure I would come back for a 1 item $50 breakfast/brunch with coffee.
I tried two items out of their brunch menu + two smoothies, the Rustic & the French Toast + Strawberry & Dubia Royal smoothies. If you like mushrooms, you would absolutely love the Rustic, it was very delicious and well-made dish, I enjoyed it a lot! On the other hand, however, the French Toast was the worst I've ever had in my entire life, and I'm a person who loves French Toast! Nevertheless, this was so poorly done that I couldn't even finish one of the breads out of the two, it was fried with something like bread crumbs on top, it was too greasy, and had an awful texture. Regarding the smoothies, the Strawberry one was very delicious, but I wasn't a big fan of their Dubai Royal. As for their service, both times they brought my smoothie almost at the end of my meal. When I requested to take the rest with me, they brought me the to-go glass on the table to do it myself!! This is not a service one would expect to receive in a restaurant on this level and with this vibe.
We experienced a long wait time of over 30 minutes for our food, which impacted the overall experience. Although the portions are generous, they come at a high price point. Offering smaller portion sizes could be a great way to reduce both costs and food waste.
The men is well thought off and different. The presentation was gorgeous but one porched egg Benedict (even if duck) & other options (smoked salmon, roast beef…) at $34 is a little steep in my opinion. Our serveur was very nice and answered all my questions. The food was ok and this review is based on price point especially for the savoury part of the menu are questionable. The waffles were good and the presentation was pretty. The decor is gorgeous and modern. Great spot in the old port.
I went to the new Mont-Royal location; had never been to the original one. I ordered the Moelle & canard an it was ok to me, even slightly underwhelming for the price. My food arrived cold and one of my friend’s too. The smoothie shot I had was the litchi one and I liked it. My friend who has been to the original location was also disappointed about her matcha martini, which was not the same as the other location. I loved the atmosphere, it’s very beautiful inside and the staff is nice. I will try the original location next.
Very beautiful location with really nice service. However, the last two times I have been, I was disappointed in the food. Both times I ordered something different, but I find that the food is quite greasy and heavy and difficult to enjoy after more than few bites. My friends and I also had difficulty finishing our food without feeling way too full.
Delicious brunch and cocktails! Good portion size and very well crafted brunch items!
Waited a bit too long for our brunch but it was delicious, much recommended for brunch.
Amazing experience for brunch here - great unique options that change it up from your typical breakfast, amazing service and beautiful decor!
One of the best French toast I've ever had in my life
Best breakfast in Montreal. I usually go there in events(birthdays, promotions ...) kinda expensive but worth it. Thank you
Drove 4.5 hours for their French brunch—very disappointing experience. Despite arriving early with available seating, we were told to sit at the bar. Food was just okay; foie gras was overly sauced. Service was the main issue. My cappuccino was mostly foam, and the replacement was still charged on the bill. Had to wait for a manager who never showed up until much later, and even then, nothing was resolved—just called it a “miscommunication.” Overall, poor service and not worth the trip. Would not recommend.
Chic and busy restaurant. Tight seatings, which is typical of most restaurants in Old Montreal. Our server speaks little English so when we asked for recommendations, we were steered towards the most expensive items on the menu. Food was okay; portions weren't big, but we couldn't finish the heavy, greasy and overly rich foods on our plates.
