Chic and busy restaurant. Tight seatings, which is typical of most restaurants in Old Montreal. Our server speaks little English so when we asked for recommendations, we were steered towards the most expensive items on the menu. Food was okay; portions weren't big, but we couldn't finish the heavy, greasy and overly rich foods on our plates.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback, Linen! 🥐✨ We’re sorry to hear that certain aspects of your visit didn’t fully meet your expectations. There are indeed some tight spots in the front, but the tables spacing is more comfortable in the back room ''Salle des Arches''. If ever you intend to give us another shot, you could always specify in your note reservation for that type of seating. Our team always make sure that all notes are considered. Your comments regarding communication and menu guidance are taken seriously. Our goal is always to offer genuine recommendations based on guests’ preferences — not price — and we regret if this wasn’t how it came across. We also appreciate your honest notes on the food and portions. Your feedback helps us refine both our service approach and guest experience. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you again and provide a more seamless, enjoyable visit. Le Passé Composé Team

Cozy space. Amazing staff, and service. An interesting take on breakfast staples like their duck eggs Benedict over bone marrow. Worth the visit!

While the restaurant was half empty, the service was extremely slow and appetizers arrived after the mains, which were cold. The food was good but the staff can’t keep up with demand even when half empty restaurant

I can’t even rate the other aspects of this restaurant since I couldn’t even go. We had a reservation and they advanced one hour early the day of. They told us to contact them but they are unresponsive on their phone number. Truly dissatisfied with the miscommunication and customer service.

I used to love this place at their old location and was very sad when it closed, I was excited to visit again after hearing they re-opened but this once great establishment is well and gone. Firstly the service of the hosts and waitstaff is absolutely horrendous. The exact opposite of the previous location, the old location was small and always packed yet the staff was always attentive and provided a good experience, the staff now acts like we're committing a crime for daring to patronize this establishment. The food has also taken a hit, the chefs now apparently don't accept any modifications, such as removing bacon chips from my dish (seriously?) I was just bewildered when the waitress told me that they couldn't accommodate this very simple request. and the quality of the dishes isn't as good as it used to be, the coffee is terrible and way too acidic. The ambiance of the place is also off, this weird space that's kind of segmented into two doesn't do it any favors but I get the feeling they tried to upscale the establishment closer to "fine dining" but nothing about the experience can pass for that. A real shame what happened to one of my favorite restaurants, but the dining experience feel hostile to the patron and i don't understand why they are going this way.

Thank you for taking the time to share such detailed feedback, Ali. It truly means something to us, especially coming from someone who supported us at our previous location. We’re sorry to hear that this recent experience felt so different and disappointing. The level of service you described is not the standard we aim to deliver, and we take that very seriously. Hospitality should never feel unwelcoming. Your comments have been shared with our management team for review. Regarding menu modifications, while some dishes are structured to maintain consistency, we understand that reasonable requests should be handled with care and flexibility. We’re sorry this interaction left you feeling frustrated. We also appreciate your feedback on food quality, coffee, and ambiance. Growth and change can sometimes feel different, but our goal is always to evolve without losing what made guests love us in the first place. We genuinely regret that this visit felt hostile rather than welcoming. Thank you for your honesty, it gives us the opportunity to reflect and improve. Le Passé Composé Team

I was here two years ago and had the best meal ever, the Maritime Poached Egg. However, when I returned this year the menu completely changed and the portions were half the size. I couldn't find the order I had last time, so I just ordered something else, the foie gras. It was okay, not as special.

Thank you for coming back to see us, C! ✨ It truly means a lot. We’re so happy to hear that your first visit left such a strong impression. Our menu does evolve over time to reflect seasonal inspirations, new creations, but also the reality of the industry. Our menu is curated with fresh and local ingredients. We understand how disappointing it can be not to find a past favorite. We appreciate your feedback regarding the portions and your recent dish, and we’ll certainly share it with our team. We hope to have the chance to welcome you again and create another memorable experience for you. ✨ Le Passé Composé Team

I saw so many recommendations on social media to come to Le Passé Composé for brunch but I was left incredibly disappointed. Right off the bat, upon making reservations, we had to wait over 15 minutes to be seated when the restaurant was not even full. Once seated, our waiter was very passive aggressive and unaccommodating. Many of the dishes were unavailable to eat. I wanted to order the gaspor grilled cheese without the bacon because the other grilled cheese had brussels sprouts which I explicitly told the waiter I really did not like. The waiter very defensively told me “the chef doesn’t want to make you a grilled cheese without the bacon. just order the mushroom grilled cheese—you won’t taste the brussels sprouts.” Needless to say, I got burnt toast with brussels sprouts and a drizzle of cheese—a flavourless joke of a grilled cheese. Not to mention it took over 40 MINUTES to be served the food and all of it came cold!! My boyfriend asked if his meat dish could be made without dairy products and the waiter rudely replied that “he can’t just change the chef’s dishes how he pleases.” Super pretentious service for mediocre food and preposterous prices. Would not suggest this place unless you feel like being talked down to and waste your month’s rent on dishes that a toddler can make.

Really really disappointing. The menu sounds great, but every dish was bland and tasted the same. Coffee like dishwater. Cappuccino came out room temperature. One person's dish came out 10 minutes after everyone else. The tables were way too close together so we were being bumped by waitstaff the entire meal. To top it all off it wasn't cheap :(

An Unforgettable afternoon of Pure Indulgence The ambiance struck the perfect balance between opulent and intimate, with soft lighting that made everything feel like a beautiful secret. The service was impeccable without being intrusive. Our server seemed to anticipate our needs before we even realized them. The flavors were bold yet perfectly balanced, textures played off each other in delightful ways, and the presentation was stunning without feeling overly fussy.

I arrived at the restaurant at approximately 10:00 a.m., at a time when it was almost completely empty (roughly 95% unoccupied). Despite this, I was seated at the smallest table available. I politely asked to be moved to a slightly larger table. The host immediately appeared irritated and relocated me to the very back of the restaurant, next to a loud refrigerator, which made the seating extremely uncomfortable. I then asked if it would be possible to sit closer to the window. I was told that all other tables were occupied, which clearly did not reflect the actual state of the restaurant at that moment. When I asked what I should do on a future visit to ensure a reasonable table, I was told that there is nothing to request because “they make their own adjustments.” If that is the case, I do not understand why a reasonable adjustment could not be made for a customer when the restaurant was nearly empty. Eventually, I was moved again to the front area, though still not to the section I had originally requested. Throughout this experience, it was very clear there was no intention to accommodate that request. To make matters worse, the service from the server was poor and condescending, which made me feel uncomfortable and dismissed as a customer. This entire situation was avoidable. The issue was not the table itself, but the attitude and the way the situation was handled. Given the pricing, the overall experience did not reflect the level of service one would reasonably expect. I am sharing this feedback because I believe it is important for management to be aware of how easily a customer experience can be negatively impacted by attitude and poor communication (and just for the record when I left it was all empty)

After paying the bill, the waiter asked in a particularly aggressive manner why the tip wasn't 15%, saying the unofficial rule is that tips should be 15%😇

They share premises with an Indian restaurant but there is no indication of where the Indian restaurant stops and when the brunch spot starts. Their waitstaff was also hiding somewhere in the back, and when a waitress came out she rudely acted as if I should have guessed? There is only one sign indicating where the Passé Composé restaurant is, and it's a sheet of paper that points outside... Every side of the building shows the name Passé Composé. Explains why the place was empty on a Friday morning when they used to have lines around the block at their defunct Maisonneuve location

Thank you for this honest review, Poppy! We understand the confusion with Héritaj. Operation hours are completely different. Both restaurants are sharing the same full place depending on the seating : Le Passé Composé from 9AM to 3PM and Héritaj from 5PM to 11PM. But we're taking your comment seriously and we're working on redefining the signalization to ensure a smoother experience. We hope you enjoy the menu, and will hopefully maybe see you again at our newest 2nd location on the Plateau. Bests, Le Passé Composé Team
