I was here two years ago and had the best meal ever, the Maritime Poached Egg. However, when I returned this year the menu completely changed and the portions were half the size. I couldn't find the order I had last time, so I just ordered something else, the foie gras. It was okay, not as special.
Reviews / Ratings for Le Passé Composé (Vieux-Montréal)
I saw so many recommendations on social media to come to Le Passé Composé for brunch but I was left incredibly disappointed. Right off the bat, upon making reservations, we had to wait over 15 minutes to be seated when the restaurant was not even full. Once seated, our waiter was very passive aggressive and unaccommodating. Many of the dishes were unavailable to eat. I wanted to order the gaspor grilled cheese without the bacon because the other grilled cheese had brussels sprouts which I explicitly told the waiter I really did not like. The waiter very defensively told me “the chef doesn’t want to make you a grilled cheese without the bacon. just order the mushroom grilled cheese—you won’t taste the brussels sprouts.” Needless to say, I got burnt toast with brussels sprouts and a drizzle of cheese—a flavourless joke of a grilled cheese. Not to mention it took over 40 MINUTES to be served the food and all of it came cold!! My boyfriend asked if his meat dish could be made without dairy products and the waiter rudely replied that “he can’t just change the chef’s dishes how he pleases.” Super pretentious service for mediocre food and preposterous prices. Would not suggest this place unless you feel like being talked down to and waste your month’s rent on dishes that a toddler can make.
Food is ok, but no match to what it used to be back in the old location.
Really really disappointing. The menu sounds great, but every dish was bland and tasted the same. Coffee like dishwater. Cappuccino came out room temperature. One person's dish came out 10 minutes after everyone else. The tables were way too close together so we were being bumped by waitstaff the entire meal. To top it all off it wasn't cheap :(
An Unforgettable afternoon of Pure Indulgence The ambiance struck the perfect balance between opulent and intimate, with soft lighting that made everything feel like a beautiful secret. The service was impeccable without being intrusive. Our server seemed to anticipate our needs before we even realized them. The flavors were bold yet perfectly balanced, textures played off each other in delightful ways, and the presentation was stunning without feeling overly fussy.
I arrived at the restaurant at approximately 10:00 a.m., at a time when it was almost completely empty (roughly 95% unoccupied). Despite this, I was seated at the smallest table available. I politely asked to be moved to a slightly larger table. The host immediately appeared irritated and relocated me to the very back of the restaurant, next to a loud refrigerator, which made the seating extremely uncomfortable. I then asked if it would be possible to sit closer to the window. I was told that all other tables were occupied, which clearly did not reflect the actual state of the restaurant at that moment. When I asked what I should do on a future visit to ensure a reasonable table, I was told that there is nothing to request because “they make their own adjustments.” If that is the case, I do not understand why a reasonable adjustment could not be made for a customer when the restaurant was nearly empty. Eventually, I was moved again to the front area, though still not to the section I had originally requested. Throughout this experience, it was very clear there was no intention to accommodate that request. To make matters worse, the service from the server was poor and condescending, which made me feel uncomfortable and dismissed as a customer. This entire situation was avoidable. The issue was not the table itself, but the attitude and the way the situation was handled. Given the pricing, the overall experience did not reflect the level of service one would reasonably expect. I am sharing this feedback because I believe it is important for management to be aware of how easily a customer experience can be negatively impacted by attitude and poor communication (and just for the record when I left it was all empty)
After paying the bill, the waiter asked in a particularly aggressive manner why the tip wasn't 15%, saying the unofficial rule is that tips should be 15%😇
They share premises with an Indian restaurant but there is no indication of where the Indian restaurant stops and when the brunch spot starts. Their waitstaff was also hiding somewhere in the back, and when a waitress came out she rudely acted as if I should have guessed? There is only one sign indicating where the Passé Composé restaurant is, and it's a sheet of paper that points outside... Every side of the building shows the name Passé Composé. Explains why the place was empty on a Friday morning when they used to have lines around the block at their defunct Maisonneuve location
Pain dorée was delicious
Great service, but forgot my orange juice... only realised at the end of the meal... food was very good! Nice Decor and ambiance. Price alittle on the higher side but you get what you pay for.
