Food was good but not great. You’re really there for the show and the old school experience. It’s extremely expensive for what you’re getting. It’s mostly worth it for the touristic expense but not so much for the food.
Reviews / Ratings for Le Continental
Fantastic service, staff were very professional, prompt and attentive. We started with a Caesars salad made at the table, shrimp cocktail and a lobster bisque. The main was the veal medallion and Sirloin Sirloin steak, served with vegetables. Sirloin was cooked to perfection (medium rare) and the veal medallion were very tender.
Amazing dining experience. Thank you to Anthony Bourdain for showing us this gem on his show. May he rest in peace
I brought my wife to Le Continental to celebrate her birthday. Upon entering I was struck by the delicious smell as well as the classic decor and the white-jacketed wait staff. Old world elegance was everywhere! The cocktails and appetizers were amazing. But the true centerpiece of the evening were the steaks, cooked perfectly table-side! To cap it off we finished with the cherries jubilee, also cooked table-side. When in Quebec, I highly recommend dinner here, a Quebec institution since 1956!
The menu may not have changed in decades, but this is not a fault! Not only are the expert staff preparing your dishes tableside, and making it all look effortless, they also provide superfun banter to really make your evening!
Very fun meal with everything cooked table side. Very traditional atmosphere but fun experience!
Andrea is an amazing host. Food cooked by him was amazing too. Highly recommend.
Wonderful dinner, food service were all excellent
The flambe experience is awesome. Steak was cooked medium rare, and melted easily in the mouth. The escargots were surprisingly tasty, and I didn't expect to like them as much as I did. Definitely worth a go if you never try. It tastes kind of similar to palak paneer. Medalion de mushrooms was creamy and a little bit spicy. The crab appetizer tasted amazing with the mushroom garlic sauce. The coconut chocolate easter egg dessert was well done too (it was an easter special). All in all a fun michelin dining experience
Everything was excellent! Just one minor point for improvement, we ran out of table space for the food. It would be great if you can have larger table.
If you want to impress, it’s definitely the place to be, especially if you love meat. The service is truly 5 star, very attentive from start to finish. Everything we tried was delicious: foie gras, escargots, Chateaubriand, and crêpes Suzette. The flambé presentation is a really nice touch and makes the experience special. The atmosphere isn’t modern, but that’s part of the charm, with white tablecloths and staff in white blazers, it feels like stepping back in time. Highly recommend for a special occasion. I would definitely come back without hesitation!
Elegant, delicious, excellent service. Must dine. Caesar salad, filet, scallops perfect. Excellent wine pairings. A must do!
Saw this on Anthony Bourdain and it didn’t disappoint. A special place for our last night in Quebec City.
Outstanding and unparalleled tableside food, service, and care. Fantastic dining experience, thank you!
This was the best meal of all the great ones thst we had this week; I will recommend La Continental to anyone that I know visiting Quebec City; the service and food was excellent; we shared a local cheese plate to start; Rose had giant scallops and I had veal medallions and both were magnifique; the chocolate mousse and Black Forest cake that we had for dessert were great finishes to a memorable meal; well done by everyone on staff
Beware… TOURIST TRAP. If you’re a foodie please move on to the next place. 100% OVERRATED….. I really wanted to love this place but it is so overrated and Quebec is filled with amazing restaurants
Great experience and the food was delicious
Unfortunately the experience was disappointing. The crepe was burned, which made it unpleasant to eat. The garlic mushrooms were also not good at all the taste was off, and I actually had to return the dish because it was not enjoyable. The salmon was the only highlight of the meal. It was well cooked and quite delicious. However, one good dish couldn’t make up for the rest of the experience.Overall, the meal did not live up to the hype. The food quality didn’t justify the expectations.
If you ever find yourself wandering the cobblestone streets of Old Quebec, do yourself a favor and make a reservation at Le Continental. The restaurant has a timeless elegance and a refined old-world charm that perfectly matches the historic surroundings of Old Quebec. It is sophisticated without being pretentious, the kind of place where the focus becomes great food and great company. The service is exceptional — attentive, polished, and genuinely welcoming. What makes it especially memorable is the traditional tableside preparation. Watching dishes finished right next to your table adds a sense of occasion that you rarely find anymore. We had the filet mignon en boîte, and it was absolutely unforgettable. Without exaggeration, it was the best filet mignon I’ve ever had — the kind of dish that stays in your memory long after the trip is over. Between the remarkable food, the elegant atmosphere, and the flawless service, Le Continental delivers a dining experience that feels truly special. If you’re visiting Quebec City and appreciate classic French cuisine done right, this restaurant is a must-visit — and the filet mignon en boîte is an absolute must-order.
I had fairly high expectations for this French restaurant. When we walked in, the smell of butter from the kitchen was wonderful and the staff looked professional, so the first impression was actually very promising. Unfortunately the food was disappointing. We ordered escargots, foie gras, and scallops, and every dish was extremely salty. The saltiness completely dominated the flavor, so it was difficult to taste anything else. The scallops were cooked to a decent texture, but their natural sweetness was completely lost because of how salty the dish was. The bread service was also underwhelming. The bread was cold and the butter came in hard, cold chunks that seemed straight from the fridge — not softened and not seasoned in any way. It felt like the foil was simply opened and the butter was placed on the plate. This didn’t really match the overall atmosphere and presentation of the restaurant. The foie gras pairing also didn’t work well. Instead of being served with a crisp toast or something with texture, it came with a dense, slightly soft bread. Since foie gras is already very rich, the soft bread underneath made the whole bite feel heavy and greasy. The bread itself had a powdery texture in the mouth and didn’t balance the dish at all. We noticed that many other tables were ordering steak, so perhaps that is their specialty. But based on the dishes we tried, the experience was quite disappointing.
We have been to the Continental four times for anniversary celebrations. The best way to describe our latest experience is "tired". The restaurant is based on the presentation of its food with flamed in spectacular tableside preparation. While well done, this requires constant reparte with the waitperson preparing your food. This reparte diminishes the focus of a romantic dinner. You do not have to order it but the spectacle is impossible to ignore. If you do not have it, many other tables do. Flambe is everywhere! My large piece of salmon seemed packaged and dull. My lobster tail was served with clarified butter that lacked taste. My white wine was served at room temperature. We have enjoyed the place in the past but will not return.
Another wonderful experience here. Service is so exceptional. We had Matthew who was attentive, professional and charming..well done.
My wife and I really enjoyed everything this evening. We werecelebrating my birthday and it was superb. The Cesar's Salad was perfect. The meat was cooked to perfection the wine was terrific and the asparagus was a real treat as were thge other accompanyng vegetables. We finished with a delicious piece of cake and coffee. Thanks you everyone
Absolutely loved the place. Vintage setting, great atmosphere, phenomenal service and the food is just amazing. Highly recommend!
