Unfortunately the experience was disappointing. The crepe was burned, which made it unpleasant to eat. The garlic mushrooms were also not good at all the taste was off, and I actually had to return the dish because it was not enjoyable. The salmon was the only highlight of the meal. It was well cooked and quite delicious. However, one good dish couldn’t make up for the rest of the experience.Overall, the meal did not live up to the hype. The food quality didn’t justify the expectations.

If you ever find yourself wandering the cobblestone streets of Old Quebec, do yourself a favor and make a reservation at Le Continental. The restaurant has a timeless elegance and a refined old-world charm that perfectly matches the historic surroundings of Old Quebec. It is sophisticated without being pretentious, the kind of place where the focus becomes great food and great company. The service is exceptional — attentive, polished, and genuinely welcoming. What makes it especially memorable is the traditional tableside preparation. Watching dishes finished right next to your table adds a sense of occasion that you rarely find anymore. We had the filet mignon en boîte, and it was absolutely unforgettable. Without exaggeration, it was the best filet mignon I’ve ever had — the kind of dish that stays in your memory long after the trip is over. Between the remarkable food, the elegant atmosphere, and the flawless service, Le Continental delivers a dining experience that feels truly special. If you’re visiting Quebec City and appreciate classic French cuisine done right, this restaurant is a must-visit — and the filet mignon en boîte is an absolute must-order.

I had fairly high expectations for this French restaurant. When we walked in, the smell of butter from the kitchen was wonderful and the staff looked professional, so the first impression was actually very promising. Unfortunately the food was disappointing. We ordered escargots, foie gras, and scallops, and every dish was extremely salty. The saltiness completely dominated the flavor, so it was difficult to taste anything else. The scallops were cooked to a decent texture, but their natural sweetness was completely lost because of how salty the dish was. The bread service was also underwhelming. The bread was cold and the butter came in hard, cold chunks that seemed straight from the fridge — not softened and not seasoned in any way. It felt like the foil was simply opened and the butter was placed on the plate. This didn’t really match the overall atmosphere and presentation of the restaurant. The foie gras pairing also didn’t work well. Instead of being served with a crisp toast or something with texture, it came with a dense, slightly soft bread. Since foie gras is already very rich, the soft bread underneath made the whole bite feel heavy and greasy. The bread itself had a powdery texture in the mouth and didn’t balance the dish at all. We noticed that many other tables were ordering steak, so perhaps that is their specialty. But based on the dishes we tried, the experience was quite disappointing.

We have been to the Continental four times for anniversary celebrations. The best way to describe our latest experience is "tired". The restaurant is based on the presentation of its food with flamed in spectacular tableside preparation. While well done, this requires constant reparte with the waitperson preparing your food. This reparte diminishes the focus of a romantic dinner. You do not have to order it but the spectacle is impossible to ignore. If you do not have it, many other tables do. Flambe is everywhere! My large piece of salmon seemed packaged and dull. My lobster tail was served with clarified butter that lacked taste. My white wine was served at room temperature. We have enjoyed the place in the past but will not return.

A total failure in both hospitality and culinary execution. My disappointment isn't even just about the price—this level of service and food would be unacceptable for a $30 meal, let alone at a place charging $100+ per person. The Service: The server’s attitude was unprofessional and condescending. After half-heartedly preparing the salad and beef tartare tableside, he simply vanished for five minutes without explanation. When we honestly shared that the food was just "okay," he dismissively replied, "Well, at least it’s not bad," and walked away. This level of arrogance is stunning for a supposedly high-end establishment. The Food: It was a series of technical failures that felt like they were cutting corners:• Caesar Salad: Purely performative. The dressing used low-quality, pre-made mustard rather than being freshly prepared. It lacked any depth or freshness.• Beef Tartare: The meat was mushy and poorly seasoned.• Beef Wellington: A disaster. The pastry was completely soggy and collapsed, showing a total lack of basic kitchen execution.Verdict: This place is the definition of a tourist trap (or: a place that relies on reputation but fails to deliver). It’s a waste of both time and money. Save yourself the frustration and go somewhere that actually respects its guests and its craft.

Underwhelming dining experience. Many dishes felt off-balanced or straight-up tasting bad. The ingredient quality was also disappointing, the beef, for example, was mushy rather than tender.

We went here for a special occasion on our yearly trip to Quebec City for Winter Carnaval. Absolutely amazing food, probably the best caesar salad I have ever eaten. My peppercorn sirloin was cooked expertly by Andrea tableside. Would definitely return!

This was the most pleasant meal I have ever had. Our server and chef, Alberto, was excellent—funny, engaging, and masterful at preparing what was easily the best tableside meal I’ve ever experienced. Restaurant Le Continental should truly be a “must visit.” While the meal was pricey, it was absolutely worth it. I will always pay for quality, and this restaurant did not disappoint. My wife and I have used the crème brûlée at Fairmont Le Château Frontenac as our dessert benchmark since we were dating 23 years ago. That longtime favorite has now moved to second place after Alberto’s Crêpes Suzette—simply amazing. The entire meal, including dessert, was prepared tableside, which made the experience even more special and memorable. Very, very well done.

Hands-down the best fine dining in Quebec City! Table-side preparations of Ceasar Salad and duck l’orange was spectacular to watch and even better to eat—delicious! Hats-off to Michel—our very professional, polite, friendly, attentive and amazing server —as well as all the staff of the Continental! They made it a very special and memorable Valentine’s Day dinner with dear friends. Can’t wait to return!

Sat at the bar and got exceptionally quick service, with all attention to us as if we were ordering dinner rather than just popping in for cocktails. We had cocktails from the special Valentines Day menu, which were very good!

It's kind of like French hibachi. You're going for the show, more than the food being some stellar blow your mind experience. The food is great, but the show is the point.

Great experience and would certainly go back. We got salmon and beef filet. Both were delicious. Cherry jubilee for dessert. From moment you walk in the place smells like delicious food. Our waiter was a professional waiter who cooked my filet perfectly. If you are near by worth the visit

My steak was a tough as boot leather but it was a decent experience. I would not be rushing to go back though. Our server was a bit of a dud as well. He was nice but rushed as along at every turn. Telling me to please pay the cheque as he was going off shift. I would not recommend to anyone that’s wants a great experience!!!

Went here recently. The street is magical. Walking in you get the feel of stepping into old school charm of a French restaurant complete with white blazers, warm wood, and tableside carts. We were greeted after seating and offered congratulations on our anniversary. Asked how would you like 2 glasses of champagne. Nice touch. Ordered our meal and while on the pricier side for Quebec/Montreal, it was in line with Vancouver(pricey). Ordered: fois gras on toasted brioche appy/wellington/rack of lamb/mashed potatos/crepes suzette. Thoughts: flavour wise - not the greatest. Wellington stated with seared fois gras but if it was meant to be on the top it didnt come, and if it was smeared inside the wellington it didnt taste like it was there. No biggie though but the pastry was generally flakey. Lamb lacked seasoning. But the sauce made up for it. Generally pretty good. Mashed potatoes - overly sweet. Lacked body, no richness from butter or cream. Took one bite n asked it to be returned as it was way too sweet. Asked if I wanted to order the dauphine instead but opted against that given the mashed potatoes. The response to this was a dismissive "well, so you dont like it!" Dessert: crepes suzette made tableside. This was pretty tasty. No complaints but my mistake was not asking if the ice cream came with it or if there was an additional charge. ---- Overall, the price did not justify the price. There are better tasting places around for the same food. I found some elements of tourist trap a bit unsavory. The champagne that we were asked if we wanted after the congratulatory message did not come on the house. It was $35/flute. The returned mashed potatoes while only being $5 was not removed from the bill. Now, on a $400 bill, $5 wont move the needle anywhere but it speaks to the the character of the place. Would we return? No. Do we recommend: if only to see the place and the history. So have a glass of wine and an appy. Not the full meal.
