Great quebecois cuisine, homey and hearty. Shepherds Pie was fantastic and poor man’s pudding was the highlight!
What guests say about La Buche
La Bûche is highly appreciated for its authentic Quebec cuisine, hearty brunches, and desserts like pouding chômeur. The atmosphere is warm, original, and festive, with the decor often mentioned in reviews as a major highlight. Several customers recommend booking ahead, as the place is often very busy and a bit cramped or noisy. A few reviews also mention high prices and, occasionally, uneven service or wait times.

The breakfast we had was exceptional, from the atmosphere to the service you won’t be left disappointed.
Amazing food, the friendliest staff for out of towners such as myself. Great atmosphere, cozy and quaint. I will return here next time I visit the city. It was a treat!
Staff was incredibly friendly. Taxidermy forty’s rate. And as for the food, it was as bountiful and I left a clean plate. Go for the big sampler and say yes to mimosas.
Good quality of food , followed the reviews and did not regret visiting this restaurant
Onion soup was solid 5/5 The rest of the food was mid at best.
We had a very enjoyable evening here. The food was delicious and plentiful, and the service was friendly.
I was beyond excited to dine at this restaurant. The atmosphere is amazing and the service excellent. However, I expected the food to match. The poutine was mediocre and the tourtière was disappointing - dry, big chunks of meat, puff pastry on top. The fruit ketchup was divine though. And the crepes sublime. Since portions are very generous, skip dinner and go straight for the desert.
We come for breakfast. All menu we order was superb.
We ordered the butcher's casserole and it only had about one forkful of meat. Besides two eggs, the dish was all potatoes and cheese. Carbs carbs carbs (and good fat). If you like diabetes and weight gain, great place!Friendly staff though!Got the impression of mostly American clientele.
The service was really good and our waiter was very attentive and hospitable. 🙂The atmosphere was very much like a warm log cabin, nice and cozy. 😊Unfortunately the food was very underwhelming. My wife and I really wanted to like the food, especially because we were looking forward to going all week. Someone recommended that we have the shepherds pie, and it was sadly bland. We aren’t big food critics, we just had higher hopes for it especially with the price. 😣The appetizer was honestly our favorite dish of the night.😅 (Meat Pie Nuggets)Overall, it’s probably a fun and cozy spot for families with young kids. If you’re looking for bold, standout flavors, it may not fully hit the mark — but the service and ambiance were definitely highlights.
We had brunch here in and loved it! The crêpe and omelette were both delicious, not over seasoning and the maple syrup yogurt was incredibly smooth and flavorful—even better the next day. Portions are generous, the staff are friendly and attentive, and the cozy cabin-like vibe is really charming. Loved the artistic touches, even in the restroom! Highly recommend.
Loved the pork with maple syrup, poutine, and poor man’s pudding. And our service was delightful.
We visited Quebec City this weekend and this place came highly recommended, and I can see why. We wanted a restaurant that had a fun vibe and served some French Canadian dishes. The only thing better than food was the service. Our waiter was fun and attentive. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Everything is goodFood is amazingLocation I love itService amazing
Great vibe ! Food was tasty & solid and service was very attentive. Loved the atmosphere and would book again next time in town.
Our server was excellent amd gave the best recommendations. The deer tartar was one of the best things I have ever eaten. We loved the shepherds pie as well. The meat was incredibly tender and the mashed potatoes were so creamy. The salmon was also very good. The Poor Man's Pudding was exceptional. A great experience
wow, it was amazing! the atmosphere was great and the pouding chômeur kept me happy for the rest of the day. the bathroom downstairs is the coolest bathroom i’ve ever seen in a restaurant!
Super sugary desserts , but so delicious. I had the Carmel crepe, my amazing husband had the French toast. Both delicious, super duper sugary. The Carmel sauce was so unique, very good. Atmosphere is very fun and staff very nice. Great experience
Wow! Such a fun experience with really lovely people.
Was a great visit to La Buche. The restaurant's atmosphere provided a great Quebecoise environment that added to our trip to Quebec City. Food was great and the service was friendly and helpful. Was our favourite restaurant as part of our trip. I would recommend.
If you’re travelling to Quebec City, then definitely add this to your bucket list. I highly recommend the chicken waffle with the candied bacon; seriously the best I’ve ever had!! The service was fantastic and would 100% come back here again!
This place was very good. Probably the best food on our trip and we ate at a lot of good places. Staff was pretty nice but they were very busy. The atmosphere is fun, pretty loud. Definitely recommend reservations. It is a very cramped establishment, hard to maneuver. The bathroom is a funny experience on purpose so check it out too!
Yearly stop for me and my family. The food NEVER disappoints, and who doesn’t love some lumberjack theming? Definitely one to grab a reservation for; I’ve never successfully just walked in here due to the popularity
The atmosphere of the restaurant was great — really inviting and comfortable. The service was good and attentive throughout our visit. Unfortunately, the food didn’t quite match the experience. My duck was dry and a bit underwhelming, which was disappointing. Overall, a nice ambiance and solid service, but the food could use some improvement.
