Reviews / Ratings for Gaspar Brasserie Française
The ambience of the restaurant was lovely. The food was tasty and the portions adequate. The staff were very professional and helpful. When my vegan Mille-feuille was not done very well the first time around and when I spoke with the waitstaff about it, they were able to remake it.
Hugo was great
I can’t believe I’m only writing this now — I’ve been meaning to for a while, so apologies for the delay! My girlfriend took me here for my birthday, and it turned out to be such a memorable experience. The restaurant itself is absolutely beautiful — the atmosphere, the ambiance, everything just felt special from the moment we walked in. What really made the night stand out, though, was our waitress, Kayla. She was incredible. Her personality was warm, genuine, and welcoming, and her service was top-notch from start to finish. She made us feel comfortable, took great care of us, and truly added to the whole experience. It’s rare to find a place that gets everything right — the setting, the vibe, and the people — but this restaurant absolutely did. I’ll definitely be coming back and recommending it to others. Thank you for making my birthday such a great one!
Service from Nicholas was amazing! My Dad said: “best service I’ve ever had in mtl”
The hostesses were very helpful in getting me and my husband a table during a very busy Easter brunch. Kayla, our server, was so friendly, very helpful, and funny! (Thank you for being wonderful, Kayla!) She recommended the beefcheek Benedict and it was DELICIOUS! Will definitely visit again on our next trip to Montreal.
We stopped in at Gaspar for dinner without a reservation. We were greeted warmly by the hostess and our waiter Hugo was an absolute super star. He was so attentive and helpful. The food here was also fantastic - we ordered the oysters, bison tartare and the seared striped bass and we loved everything!
Hugo was a wonderful server and the food was excellent.
Nicholas was outstanding! Best service in all of Montreal. Made our brunch exceptionally enjoyable!
Nicholas was wonderful! Thank you!
We had dinner here twice on visits to Montreal. The first time was excellent, so we came back last night with similar expectations. However, 2 years later, the experience was different. The the prices were the same but portions were smaller. We waited almost an hour for an order of lamb chops to come out, which considering it was cooked to rare should have taken 15 minutes tops. If a kitchen is that backed up, it would at least be courteous to give some notice. Our server was very nice at least, and the ambience is beautiful. Hopefully this was just an off-night, but I don’t think we will be back.
Amazing atmosphere, great drinks, and friendly staff— Hugo was the best!
We dined here on recommendation of the hotel concierge. This classy joint is well-appointed and cozy, yet busy. We must underscore the flair and sophistication of the appetizers and entrees. We had the garlic shrimp, the balsamic tomato salad with arugula and quinoa, the Osso Buco, and the Cod entrees. For dessert we enjoyed a hazelnut cream pastry, which was delicious, too. The quality exceeded our expectations. The service was attentive and classy. Our server "H" was exceptionally kind and polite. They have an extensive wine list, but we ordered only San Pellegrino. I will add photos shortly.
Service was great. Burger was burnt, where meat was bitter. Kids didn't finish it. My wifes risoto (beef cheek dish) was so salty, she didnt finish it. My fries were cold, overcooked, soggy and super salty. I wouldn't even bother with the review, but for $250, and all 3 dishes left alot to be desired, i felt obligated to do so. P.S. everywhere else it says they are open 10:30 am (assuming for lunch), but they open at 5pm.
Great food, lovely restaurant and staff were all terrific. Family dinner for a stop in Montreal that we all agreed was a delight. Will be back for sure.
Came here as a solo diner and had such a wonderful time. Solina in particular went out of her way to ensure I had everything I needed, including curating a list of recommendations for other places to visit in the area. Several other staff members were also incredibly helpful in providing recommendations. Thank you to all!
Food was spectacular. Got the bone marrow and the braised beef cheeks. High recommend! But above the food was the service. Sat at the bar and was so well taken care of by the bartenders, specifically Solina who walked walked me through the Canadian Whiskeys, let me taste other liqueurs, and made sure I had an enjoyable time. Super friendly staff here that makes the experience that much more memorable.
Brunch was very delicious, our Server was efficient, friendly and polite.
Great experience, delicious food and service from Michael was fabulous!! Highly recommend!
Beautiful restaurant, amazing food, and great service especially from our server Hugo! Great place for families. I took my grandparents here and everyone loved their meal. Absolutely amazing service.
I recently had the pleasure of visiting with a group of colleagues. We sampled a variety of wines, which I found to be excellent, though some at our table expressed a preference for alternative selections. Our cocktails, while taking a bit longer than typically expected, seemed to align with the overall pace of the evening. It's possible the establishment was experiencing a slightly busier period than usual. I personally enjoyed a delicious lavande, which unfortunately seemed to disappear all too quickly. For my appetizer, I chose the beet salad. While it didn't entirely impress me, I did find that the goat cheese complemented the beets and citrus quite nicely. As for my main course, I ordered the braised beef cheek. While the beef itself was tender, I felt that the saffron was overshadowed by the sauce and Parmesan, and I found it to be quite salty. Despite my fondness for squash, I was unable to finish that component of the dish since it was drenchedin sauce.
A wonderful, charming restaurant. I had the bone marrow with snails as my appetizer and I loved it. I had never had snails before and I was not disappointed. I also had the filet mignon with the creamy polenta. And the chocolat mi cuit. Everything was very good. The service was top tier. The lady who I assume was the manager kept checking in and making sure everything was ok, even came out to say goodbye while I was waiting on my ride. Highly recommend this place.
Had a great breakfast. Excellent service from Christopher and Myriam. Both very lovely people. Always a pleasure eating at Gaspar.
Sub par. Absolutely not worth 200$ for the quality of food. Service was not prompt, items forgot and quality of food very disappointing, especially considering the price point. We won’t be returning.
This is my first time leaving a review like this, and that alone says a lot. I was genuinely appalled. While I understand that prices in Montreal can be high, there is no excuse for the foul smell coming from the food or the rude attitude of the staff. What was supposed to be a special occasion turned into a terrible memory, and once was more than enough.
