I put two stars instead of one because the place was generally packed the entire time and clearly other people love it, but my group absolutely did not like the food. It was a four course set menu, but the flavors were not it at least for us. Some of our party got wine and they also were not a big fan of that either. I will say that the seating area is cute and there’s a nice vibe in the restaurant, but we could not get past the food. The four course menu included a course of cauliflower then something with tomatoes and what tasted like cinnamon and then a main dish of fish or mutton, and finally cheese or cake for dessert. I also found the food took a lot of time.

We really enjoyed our experience here. The atmosphere is well planned and enjoyable and the food is crafted with thought. You can really tell that what you are being given is purposeful and the each dish is given significant attention. We very much enjoyed our service by Elizabeth who clearly understands how to balance being present while not interrupting conversation and knows the menu perfectly.

solo dinner and enjoyed the experience there. very homely interior with a very small team of staff (4 only). but despite that, service was still attentive and each course was brought out swiftly. food was delicious, but not spectacular. well crafted, but not memorable. oysters from new brunswick ($3.5 each) with added cream wasnt really to my liking. rutabaga was interestingly cooked and was the standout of the night. endives was a bit salty. artic char from montreal was cooked well, but flavor of the fish still remained fishy and relied too much on the sauce rather than the taste of the fish itself. dessert was decent. had a cocktail to go along with it. total bill came up to $150 with tax and tips. noting they are short staffed, as you leave no one bats a head to you. even the chefs behind the counter were busy preparing the food. dedication i guess.

One of a kind experience. They always pay so much attention to detail and explain every dish with care. So great that they have a vegan version as well! 💚

Had an incredible birthday dinner here with my boyfriend this January. I first went to Candide in November of 2019 and have been waiting for years for a chance to get back here. I live down in Boston and this was absolutely worth making a weekend trip to Montreal for. The food was incredible, the vibes were immaculate, and the staff were so so so SO kind and helpful. Cannot recommend this place enough!!

I found myself feeling a little jealous of the chefs as I indulged in incredibly wholesome dishes, each crafted with fresh ingredients that complemented one another beautifully. I came to realize that this place is truly an anchor institution for the community, where the chefs cook purely for the craft and for the people. While my last two visits were good, it was that very first visit that was truly extraordinary.
